Trejo's Cantina - Pasadena
The chips and salsa were the best thing. And the nice deep pour of Chardonnay. Tacos are decent but bowls disappointing and overpriced. Enjoyed the street corn. So overall was good but not great.
Overpriced for mediocre food. A huge disappointment. Seemed poorly managed. Distracted uninterested bartenders; bathrooms not clean with napkins in the paper towel dispenser. Had the vibe of a chain restaurant.
This is the perfect place to go if you need to please both meat-eaters and vegans -- the vegan friends I brought were very happy. My friend who got the jackfruit bowl couldn't stop raving about how delicious it was. My husband and I got the steak and grilled chicken bowls and were equally happy. The service was warm and friendly and, although it seemed to take a while for our food to arrive, it was piping hot when it did.
Overall, great experience! We got seated immediately and were greeted by very friendly staff. The menu is great, cocktails wonderful, and the price is very reasonable for such high-quality food, drink, and service. It's laid-back, unfussy, good for groups and families with kids. This is now high on my list of go-to spots!
Great tacos in relaxed setting.
Went here because we were going to a play at the Pasadena Playhouse. Heard about it over the years and it was super convenient (it is literally right next door to the theater). We started off with the house margarita. Husband liked it; I didn't. Had a weird aftertaste. Gave it to my husband and ordered a drink called The Cartel. It was good. Was expecting traditional tacos, but they were all "enhanced" with non-traditional items. I ordered one fish taco and one fried chicken taco. I don't like fruit with my meat or fish, so I asked for the pineapple salsa to be omitted. It was okay; nothing special. I doubt that the salsa would have made any difference. The fried chicken taco came in a "lettuce cup," which was actually two small leaves of lettuce. Made it impossible to pick up and eat out of hand because the lettuce pieces kept slipping apart. Flavor was just okay. I need to mention that the tacos come one to an order, with no sides and run $4 to $6 apiece. Also there are no complementary chips and salsa; they have chips and guacamole as an appetizer on the menu. My husband had the fried chicken quesadilla, which he liked. I had a couple bites, and I wish I had ordered one! We sat in the bar so we could catch some of the Dodger game. The bartenders and servers were exceptional; very attentive and friendly. I really wish our food had been better. Next time, we'll go across the street to The Stand.
The service is so horrible, it is shocking that this is a "CELEBRITY" restaurant that doesn't have that part down pat.
Our waitress was fabulous -- cheery and helpful and attentive. The food was super good. Definitely a great option before the theater... or even just on a night when you want some good good good tacos!
I've been wanting to go for a while and finally got the chance. I was not disappointed. the food was great the server/hostess was very helpful and on top of everything. I am definitely going back.
It wasn’t authentic enough. Chips were delicious good deep golden corn tasting with lime in it. But we got a small portion of chips for 6 people. Had to ask for more. My empanada was very good. I think everyone else in the party didn’t care for their burritos, bowls and tacos. Sorry I don’t recall getting black beans at a Mexican restaurant or curry. I wasn’t expecting it to be like that.
The food was ok nothing special got the salsa and chips with guacamole which were 9.50 which was over priced for the amount of chips a guacamole I received Im talking about 1 tablespoon of guacamole and a server must forgot we were there because we were waiting for her to come back to get refills on are drinks because they give these small cups for drinks something I would give my three year old.
Good meal, good value, food took a lot of time to arrive
The food was great but the service was not so great. The waitresses need more service training and be more attentive.
Well, what can I say, it was a tasty taco, but it didnt feel worth the price. $5 for an average taco, Guisados in LA or Pour Vida in Anaheim are much MUCH tastier for an equivalent price.
Amazing options for all types of diets. Recommend the BCR burrito.....wet. The sauce reminds me of home. Wondering if the bottle it and sell it.
It is especially convenient for eating before a performance.
The food was excellent and the atmosphere welcoming. I especially appreciated the service, our waiter was incredible honest and informative.
The beat burrito, tacos and quesadillas. the cheese is to die for.
I went here with my boyfriend and cousin and we all had a great time. The street corn was so good, the bowls had a lot of flavor and the atmosphere was pleasant. Its a bit on the pricy side, however. I think we should have gotten more food with what he paid for, but it was still very good.
Food was very mediocre and way overpriced. Cold and unappealing atmosphere. Margaritas were the worst I ever tasted. Will not go back.
Our first experience was back when it opened, food was delicious and the servings were generous. Last week our reservations was at 2:15, the restaurant side was closed. We were seated on the bar side. The music was extremely loud and the bar top was a bit uncomfortable to eat lunch. The bartender, service was very nice and friendly. When we received our lunch, one of us ordered a carnitas taco, boy you can count the meat on that plate, that's how skimpy the serving was. Our burritos were just ok, somehow the flavor was lost from our first time experience. I will not go back to the restaurant. It's over priced and the servings are just too skimpy.
Nice big, open, friendly space. Staff is very friendly and takes good care of you. Food is excellent, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, everything. Their signature salsa has an excellent rich flavor and not too spicy so everyone can enjoy.
We were quite disappointed by the quality of the cocktails that we ordered, and, after waiting over 20 minutes for an order of chips and guacamole that never arrived, we decided to ask for the check. The server was amazing and was disappointed that we waited so long for a simple appetizer so he gave us one of our cocktails on the house.
The wait staff was wonderful. For the prices of the cocktails, we were disappointed with the quality of the alcohol. The speed of the food service left something to be desired. We likely won’t be returning.
Met up with friends who brought their two young children. We were lucky to get a table that was big enough for the baby carrier and high chair for the older kid.
Exceptional all around. We will go again and tell our friends.
Fried chicken tacos were absolutely amazing! That is all. <3
This is a perfect place to celebrate any special occasion. I chose to take my mom to a Mother’s Day lunch here. My mom was so pleased with everything: the food, the ambiance, the restaurant decor, etc. My mom was happy. And, when mom is happy, the children are happy. :)
Food was ok. Thought it was pricey for what we got. We each ordered a taco, guacamole with chips, corn on the side, and two fresca drinks.
Service was extremely poor, then food disappointment on top of that. It took an hour to get our food. This is basically a bar that serves bad food.
We had a very pleasant time there. The food and service were good and we liked the restaurant environment. Would go back for sure.
Get together with friends
My wife and I, drove from Fresno Ca. We made a reservation with the curiosity of a celebrity restaurant. And very disappointed with the food. I had a burrito, and my wife had the nachos. Burrito came in a aluminum wrapping. Not dressed in any sauces, and nachos we're something that can easily be done by a fourteen year old. Overall experience was dissatisfied. Sorry!
It was VERY NOISY-- I don't consider that ENERGETIC which is what is on the form. I did not like my chicken bowl at all. My friend thought her burrito was OK. The service was fast.
This time not so good. Tortilla soup and cheesecake were great. Other items not as good as before.
Save room for the churro, they are wonderful.
Great food and great service! I’m vegetarian and love that they have multiple vegetarian/vegan options! We had tons of questions and our server was so patient, answered and explained everything, and was so accommodating! Fun music and ambience!
Food is alright. Horrible service. I do enjoy Taco Tuesday (its smaller version of their normal tacos but you get to have variety).
Service was so so, but the food was really good. However, there is ZERO ambiance. It feels like a restaurant at LAX.
Went to use pay by OpenTable, but the restaurant didn't accept it, even though they said they do on OpenTable
Not so good! Wanted to love it in the location next to the Playhouse but yech. Tacos expensive and bad, soup was awful, overall - go somewhere else!
