Trattoria Roma Ratings and Reviews
A cozy neighborhood venue with big city food and service. Co-owned by Chef Matt and GM Shawn. One or both generally on site. Shawn is very helpful providing great front of house service and Chef turning out well crafted interesting modern as well as traditional dishes. The kitchen is very accommodating preparing each dish from scratch to order. Thus they are happy to modify dishes from the menu to your personal taste.
Came here on a Friday night with my boyfriend for my birthday and had a great time!!
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. They gave me a complimentary bday dessert which was very nice of them. Great atmosphere as well. Would defiantly recommend coming here!
The featured entrees were excellent. I had the beef ravioli and date had barrel fish. An amazing combination of tastes in ravioli with vegetable combo sauce mixed together. There were 7-8 flavors in each bite. The calamari appetizer was good with decent fresh tasting (for Ohio) calamari, but the zucchini sticks that were part of it were so very thin that they were essentially needles of breading deep fried with a hint of zucchini taste. The red sauce and aoioli were both good with it.
This was my first time dining at Tratorria Roma. I was there with my husband and another couple. The service was very good and our waitress was helpful. However, when asked, we were told the mussels appetizer and salad would be enough as an entree. It may be for some but I was still hungry after dinner. The food we had was very good. Other entrees ordered were the chicken scallopini and chicken parmesian. I definitely will go there again.
The food was amazing! I am not even a fan of pasta but it was so delicious. We did sit for about 15-20 minutes before we received any service, I’m not sure if there was confusion of who was serving us but once we actually started receiving service it was a good experience.
Lovely old fashioned Italian restaurant. We were there on a week night and received great service and delicious food. My husband had seafood that he raved about. I had a special that was also great though I couln't finish it. Our appetizer of bruschetta was well above average. Gone in a minute. No room for dessert. Next time.
First of all, it's not a true Italian restaurant. It's a typical American cousine with some "Italian" faint notes. Polenta was a little bit weird and too dry (although, frankly, the mushroom sauce was very good). Matching fish and cheese in "Italian restaurant"... hm, it's almost the same as offering a pizza with pineapples. :) Arancini was just ok. I mean, the food was not that bad, but don't expect much looking at the name of the place. Service was fine. Also, I assume, cheap (plastic?) plates and glass covering of white table-clothes (can't they afford cleaning and washing them?) are very good for a fast food place near a gas station but an absolute disaster for a prestigious restaurant.
Overall: OK restaurant, but nothing special, traditional, or interesting.
I have eaten here for years and always enjoyed the experience. However, I realized we had not eaten here in over a year, so we made reservations for a birthday dinner. The service was good and the menu had a great selection and variety of food. The BLT salad was nice with fresh tomatoes and ingredients and the pancetta was a nice addition. The Caesar salad was one-note, needed more lemon and was forgettable. The entries consisted of lasagna that was dry, the meat was the consistency of a paste and the sauce was on the plate, not the pasta and was watery and had little taste. The special of slow-cooked pork roast and polenta was dry, over-cooked and tough. The polenta was the consistency of mashed potatoes and contained black beans. Overall very disappointing. We told the waitress and she apologized but offered no compensation. Sadly, the experience was not good and I doubt I will return. Another of the few good Columbus restaurants that is now amongst the many mediocre ones. Sigh.
Made reservations for a group of 8 friends to celebrate a birthday. They seated us immediately upon arrival at a cozy but roomy table where we could easily talk to each other even though we were a large group. They were patient as our entire group trickled in, taking drink orders as people arrived. The food was delicious, our water glasses were always full and everyone we encountered was extremely nice. A+.
There were 8 of us; the food was all very good; however from the moment we got there service was poor; took forever to get our drinks; they brought me the wrong drink, but at that point I just drank it because I knew it would take forever to get the right one. then it took a long while to get our food; and when they did bring food they only brought 7 out of the 8 of our meals; seems like order number 8 dropped off somehow. We were trying to be respectful and not eat until he got his food, but he encouraged us to go ahead and eat. It did not seem very crowded to warrant such poor service. They should have offered a free dessert or something but that did not happen
My girl and I have dined well over a dozen times at Trattoria Roma. We love the food and especially enjoy eating al fresco during the nicer weather times of the year. Saturday evening was perfect for that. Initial service was prompt and spot-on, but it took more than 45 minutes to get our entrees - and that was after asking the host a couple of times to check on the status of our orders. Yes, the restaurant was fairly busy. Yes, the food is made-to-order. We undersrtand those criteria. However, when we see other diners near us receive their meals before us - and they ordered after we did - that's a problem. For our inconvenience, they comped us one glass of wine. Table service throughout central Ohio has gone way downhill recently. Very sad indeed.
This is a gem of a restaurant. It is quiet with attentive and friendly service and you never feel rushed. There are more items I like on the regular menu than almost any other eatery, and yet I often go with their Daily Specials. The selections are their own recipes and spot on. If you try something new, you can't go wrong and I would describe myself as a conservative diner.
The menu has many delicious options - couldn't decide, until our waitress recommended the veal scaloppini. It was fantastic paired with a great red wine. The stuffed meatball is a must try! We had a delicious dinner with great service. Can't wait to share this gem with family & friends who visit.
