About Trattoria Il Panino
Trattoria Il Panino is the kind of place that one would expect to find along the Amalfi Coast. It is a warm, friendly, unpretentious and a food-focused environment. From the casual and positive energy of the atmosphere and waitstaff, to the serious and professional energy of the kitchen, the front
and back of the house form a desirable marriage. Il Panino is what it is, thank God!

Trattoria Il Panino Ratings and Reviews
Fantastic food, some had the seafood special with spicy marinara with lobster, mussels, scallops, etc. which was great, others had the Veal Chop Milanese which was outstanding as well. Great calamari and other apps...only negatives are the room we were in seemed to be an outdoor setting with a plastic cover for winter, colder months, VERY drafty if you weren't near the overhead heaters. Also the bathroom is practically in the kitchen and somewhat tricky to get in and out of, but the food makes up for it!
This is not an authentic Italian Restaurant any more. Risotto swimming in gravy, due to some renovation no coffee, no peper and salt mill grinders. Mozarella/tomato without any inspiration. The first 2 wines I selected were not available. Very bad experience.
Location of the restaurant is great - it’s right off the Freedom Trail on Hanover St, which is the main street in Boston’s Little Italy, and very close to nearby attractions like Old North Church and Paul Revere’s house. We were seated in the outdoor area, which is now enclosed due to the cold weather, so it was pleasantly warm.
The complimentary bread was very good, and the food didn’t take long at all. We ordered the spaghetti carbonara, the paccheri al ragu, and the lasagna of the day. The carbonara was delicious, although the pancetta was a little too salty. The ragu was also very flavorful with plenty of meat and sauce, but the pasta was just a little undercooked. The lasagna was great - it had ten layers and a creamy vodka sauce. The portions were huge and the pasta comes in a metal pan, which was great for pictures!
Altogether, it was a great dining experience and would definitely come again.
Our waiter was fantastic and the food was amazing. We were craving Italian on our first trip to Boston and found some good reviews for the restaurant online so we gave it a whirl. It’s a smaller joint in the north end that has an Italy feel. I got the mushroom ravioli with the truffle cream and it was amazing - would definitely get again. My wife got the lobster ravioli with crab and it was really good as well. You can run up a bit of a bill with a few glasses of wine and some dessert but it was definitely worth the dining experience.
The overall was good , the waitress was rude , we asked for the check she sat there 10 minutes talking to a table while we're waiting , I sent another waitress to remind her she looked at us and still sat there another 5 minutes talking to the other table and laughing in really disappointed.
Our friends highly recommended this restaurant so we were really excited to try it out. We we're only in Boston a few nights for vacation. We went there late around 9pm but we weren't the only customers. There were several tables of large parties and lots empty tables. The food came out fast. Our server checked on us right after we got our food then never came back. The food was good but we realized later that they didn't offer any ground pepper or parmasean cheese. The bus boys were very friendly. The server was just standing around and we had to ask a bus boy for more water and to go boxes. The server finally came to our table to ask if we wanted the check. I hope the bad service was just a fluke but we won't go back.
Could have been a good experience, but we were seated at a terrible table and busers kept running into us and it felt cramped. The food was okay for the price. Typical Italian food but nothing special. I would recommend for a glass or two of wine but not a nice meal.
Amazing food with an even better atmosphere! Our table overlooked the kitchen - it was so fun to observe the kitchen team at work. We had the meatball to start (delicious) with spaghetti carbonara (amazing) and chicken parm (great) for our meal. My husband enjoyed a few peronis. I wish I could’ve enjoyed a wine pairing but being pregnant put a downer on the pairing. All in all - it was super tasty and authentic. I can’t wait to go back!
