About Trattoria Il Panino
Trattoria Il Panino is the kind of place that one would expect to find along the Amalfi Coast. It is a warm, friendly, unpretentious and a food-focused environment. From the casual and positive energy of the atmosphere and waitstaff, to the serious and professional energy of the kitchen, the front
and back of the house form a desirable marriage. Il Panino is what it is, thank God!

Trattoria Il Panino Ratings and Reviews
Our waiter was fantastic and the food was amazing. We were craving Italian on our first trip to Boston and found some good reviews for the restaurant online so we gave it a whirl. It’s a smaller joint in the north end that has an Italy feel. I got the mushroom ravioli with the truffle cream and it was amazing - would definitely get again. My wife got the lobster ravioli with crab and it was really good as well. You can run up a bit of a bill with a few glasses of wine and some dessert but it was definitely worth the dining experience.
The overall was good , the waitress was rude , we asked for the check she sat there 10 minutes talking to a table while we're waiting , I sent another waitress to remind her she looked at us and still sat there another 5 minutes talking to the other table and laughing in really disappointed.
Our friends highly recommended this restaurant so we were really excited to try it out. We we're only in Boston a few nights for vacation. We went there late around 9pm but we weren't the only customers. There were several tables of large parties and lots empty tables. The food came out fast. Our server checked on us right after we got our food then never came back. The food was good but we realized later that they didn't offer any ground pepper or parmasean cheese. The bus boys were very friendly. The server was just standing around and we had to ask a bus boy for more water and to go boxes. The server finally came to our table to ask if we wanted the check. I hope the bad service was just a fluke but we won't go back.
Could have been a good experience, but we were seated at a terrible table and busers kept running into us and it felt cramped. The food was okay for the price. Typical Italian food but nothing special. I would recommend for a glass or two of wine but not a nice meal.
Amazing food with an even better atmosphere! Our table overlooked the kitchen - it was so fun to observe the kitchen team at work. We had the meatball to start (delicious) with spaghetti carbonara (amazing) and chicken parm (great) for our meal. My husband enjoyed a few peronis. I wish I could’ve enjoyed a wine pairing but being pregnant put a downer on the pairing. All in all - it was super tasty and authentic. I can’t wait to go back!
This place was recommended by a friend that goes to Boston often. It was fantastic food with a good price. We went to the older entrance door down the side street and got a window seat immediately. We then found out the busy street side was the newer entrance and full of people and very busy. We lucked out in the other side. Found out it was over 30 years old and started by making sandwiches. Its a full service Italian place that is very old and food is the best I have had in a long time!
The food was great. When we gave our waiter the credit cards to pay the bill, he came back and told us that it would be too much. He pointed out that his tip was already included in the total. So honest of him to do that! We were a party of six , so he really would have made it well with that extra money.
There are so many restaurants with similar menus in the North End that it was hard to choose where to go. I'm thankful we chose Trattoria Il Panino, however because the service and food were excellent! The wine list isn't extensive but it was fine and we had a nice Italian fruity red with our meals. One of my sisters had the mushroom ravioli which was to die for and me and my other sister both had the penne with the meatball, pork ribs, sausage and beef. Sounds heavy but it wasn't. The sauce was deliciously velvety and full of flavor without being greasy and all the meats flavorful and lean. Even the bread and fruity olive oil were perfect. The antipasto was fresh and of excellent quality and all portions were generous. The atmosphere is casual and fun. Very busy restaurant with great people watching if you're seated near the windows, which we were! Go to this restaurant, but make a reservation first. It was bustling!!
We had a wonderful dinner with our two College sons . Our waiter was very pleasant and helpful , and he was running around on a very busy Saturday night! Service and food were excellent. Great location in the North End . We will definitely be back on our next, trip to Boston. Thanks for a fun evening! Hectic and busy, but in a fun vibrant way! Great time had by all! I recommend this lively restaurant!
We were a party of 6 with varied tastes and all found something on the menu. The noise level downstairs was a bit louder that I prefer but the food made up for the noise. The mushroom raviolis were outstanding. Large raviolis stuffed full of mushrooms and served with the perfect amount of sauce. Everyone in our group enjoyed their dish. We look forward to returning.
Excellent service and atmosphere. Our waiter was just perfect! The lobster ravioli was divine and I craved it the next day! The Caesar salad was good, but the dressing was very tart and lemony. The bread was very European, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The wine list is extensive and my selection of a Pino Grigio from Campania was delicious. It was one of the best places I ate in Boston!
Great food and atmosphere but it was a little loud and the server was not that attentive. Not a big deal because we where drinking wine and catching up. Also it was a little loud downstairs. Great for a family night or friends gather but I would not go there for a business dinner.
Just a great local spot with fantastic food and wine at good prices. They've expanded to take a spot over around the corner, so I'd have to say my preference is for the old space (which they still have) because it's cozier and has more character. Try to get a seat there if you can.
