I went here for the restaurant week menu and there was a bit of confusion in the beginning (it was the first day of restaurant week, haha), but once we got the menu, it was smooth sailing. The food was phenomenal and our server was so funny and attentive. It was cozy and there were a lot of conversations going on which made the interior a warm hug against the cold outside. Everything was light yet filling and the serving sizes are generous. The dessert set on the menu was tiramisu and I don't typically like tiramisu until noww! It was the perfect balance of the coffee flavor with cream and a hint of rum -- delicious. This is definitely a dinner to remember and would come back for their normal menu offerings as well. My boyfriend kept seeing other people's dishes and wondering what they were so there is a lot more to explore here!
TV ‘s everywhere - not great ambience- awesome food though
We ate at the Parmenter St. entrance. It was quite casual. If I go again I will definitely enter from the Hanover St. side. The ambiance was a bit more upscale but we were assured that it had the same menu and prices. On the Parmenter St. room the waitstaff were all speaking Italian and rather loudly. It was like being in Grandma's kitchen with everyone talking at once. if that doesn't bother you then it was fine. If you were looking for a more quiet, romantic dinner go to the Hanover St. entrance. I'd go back because the food was fabulous. We had veal saltimbaca and mushroom ravioli (we shared). Veal was a little chewy but flavor was excellent and the ravioli was super!
We arrived 30 minutes late, I called while looking for parking, they said they would still have a table for a party of 3. When we walked in 5 minutes later they said they couldn’t hold our table and we could wait at the bar until the table was ready. 20 minutes later they seated us. We didn’t receive a drink menu and the waitress took a long time to take our order but the food made up for all of it!The food was perfect! The grilled octopus with eggplant and tomatoes was amazing! The octopus was cooked just right, it melted in your mouth. The pepata di cozzee-mussels appetizer was filled with flavor. The Paccheri ai Frutti di Mare was the best! The Neapolian past was el dante cooked just right and the assorted shellfish was just the right portion! The waitress helped pair the wine with everyone’s meal! It was a great experience.
Started off with the cheese board which was good.Got veal parmesan and it was delicious.
Great food!! Super cold in the patio area.. felt like I was outside!! Way too cold to be comfortable. They accommodated us and moved us inside!
It was my mom’s bday and we all had an amazing evening. Food was superb; porcini ravioli was one of the best ravioli I’ve have had in my life. Phenomenal place. Would recommend 100%.
Gnocchi Sorrentina was excellent!! Great place, will definitely be back!
The food was amazing and priced well. Our server was very knowledgeable about all things Italian. Great experience!
Lasagne was excellent!
We got their and they tried to seat us right by the kitchen. The area was super busy, loud and not at all what the photos looked like on OpenTable or yelp! We ended up waiting for another table to open up and we sat downstairs. The food was great but the service downstairs was pretty slow. Overall ended up fine but it seemed a little ridiculous that I’d made a reservation ahead of time and was expected to sit at that awful table. Would definitely make a note of where you’d like to sit if you do reserve here.
great Italian food - service good - prices seem to be a bit high -
We had the BEST time - my mom was in town to visit from Denver and we usually pick a spot in the north end to grab dinner when she arrives. This place was better than ANY of the previous we’d been. Excellent wine selection. The best service I’ve had in the north end (and Boston for that matter). I had the ragu - INCREDIBLE. She had the special - a filet mignon with a crab cake. I don’t think I’ve ever tried a better crab cake in my whole life.
Can’t say enough about this place. Definitely will come again & my new favorite spot in all of Boston. Never will be disappointed!!
This restaurant is our “go to” in the North End. You never get a bad meal. But I am dissatisfied with the fact that this is the second time we have been seated by the kitchen and it’s noisy and lots of movement. Also we got there at 6:40pm and there was a very strong bleach odor by the front door all the way to the back. Not a very appetizing aroma. We should have left based on these two negative points but were with several young kids who were hungry and it would have been hard to find a new place that could take us right away. I think we need to find a new “go to”.
Always the best meal in the North end. Been going for 30 years, never disappoints!
I have been to this restaurant previously and had much better food and service. This is vacation week in the Boston, and I expect that the reduced quality is reflective of this. Good bread, gummy gnocchi (this is one I have had before here). Not great puttanesca (again had this here before).
It is always hard when you have a mediocre meal at a place you have previously enjoyed . Will I be back ?-- not planning on it, but maybe with out of town guest or something. Needs quality control to avoid off days.
Wonderful food and atmosphere. Will definitely return and highly recommended.
Excellent food, service, and ambience. Would very highly recommend!
Overall good experience. Although, people should know it is not somewhere you can sit to relax. They try to flip tables extremely fast, so if you are looking to sit back, have a glass of wine and enjoy your rather expensive meal for more than an hour expect to feel like a bad guest who have overstayed your welcome.
Amazing food, amazing waiter (Tino), and all around spectacular dining experience!
We were seated in a back dining room which was essentially a side alley way that was enclosed with a weather proof enclosure, which was fine, but not what we were expecting. It was almost too warm as the heater was blowing right overhead. The tables were set in pretty tight and it was difficult just to take my coat off. The table was pretty wobbly , most likely because it was sitting on the brickwork ground which was a little uneven. My wine glass almost toppled over a few times. We were ok as long as we kept our hands and elbows off the table. The service was ok, although there was no salt on the table and our water never got refilled and I couldn’t seem to get our server’s attention when we needed him. When our dishes came, mine was chicken instead of the veal that I had ordered. No big deal, just sent it back. The veal came out in about 10 minutes, but they had taken my utensils when they took the chicken and they dropped the veal and were gone before I could ask for something to eat it with. But, since my wife was already done eating hers, I used her utensils. The veal was very good. Bottom line for me is the food was good. But the atmosphere left something to be desired and the service, or maybe I should say the attention to detail, could have been better. Not to say we wouldn’t try it again, but will probably check out some other places to compare before we do.
Host didn’t have a table ready and he was rude. We were there before the reservation and didn’t sit down until 40 minutes kater
Food was great and it’s close to mikes pastry for dessert!!
Love their Lamb chops, lobster ravioli and Sangria.
Not many vegetarian options.
Amazing dinner with fantastic service and ambiance. The meal itself was reasonably priced for a fine Italian restaurant in the North End. The meal overall got a little expensive due to the fine bottles of wine we ordered but worth every penny in my opinion for a lovely date. Paolo our waiter was very fun and attentive and had amazing recommendations for both a seafood dish and also a meat dish. We ordered the lobster raviolis and the veal shank osobucco Best osobucco I’ve ever had by far. Extremely tender and flavorful and very hot which is important with such a large shank. The lobster ravioli was fresh fresh fresh! Beautiful hand made pasta that you could really taste along with a bright crab sauce. I love the north end and I’ve never had a bad meal while dining in the north end but Trattoria has taken the top spot for best restaurant in my opinion.
Great. David is the best great food. Great atmosphere great value
Check out my Yelp review for more information regarding this atrocious dining experience.
I took a date here on Valentine's Day, so I feel like it is a bit unfair to judge considering the holiday crowd. The seating arrangement was definitely changed to accommodate couples dining out, which made for a noisy, crowded space even as we approached 10pm. However, our waiter was very attentive so it was easy to catch his eye. I was very satisfied with the staff and food.
My wife and I were dispointed ,our server was unprofessional ,talk to much ,attitude and speak so loud and telling jokes loudly to the table next to us .
He never showed up after taking our order or ask if we wanted something ,not even having our water glasses filled up ,and at the end we wanted a desert but he never came or ask if we want it or give us the desert menu except giving us a bill to pay with an attitude ,he literary looks like he wanted us just pay and live .very dispointed
Great food! Service was very good, waiter was very attentive. It wasn’t too crowded, but I had a reservation, so I was seated at a table within 30 seconds of walking into the restaurant. All in all, very good place, would highly recommend.
Had requested a street-level table and was seated in the basement area, also waitress in rush to take order and the main course came out minutes after appetizers were delivered
Exxellent food and service. The pasta was fresh and seafood was very good. The service was excellent and we were not rushed . Highly recommend. Noise was moderate but expected on a Saturday night
We dine here every time we are in Boston. Everything we have ever eaten here was delicious but our favorites are the wild boar ragu and the ravioli porcini. They have a substantial wine list. The service is always great.
Nice remodel, kept the original charm
David, our server -was top notch ...attentive , knowledgeable and paved his approach based on our lively group. Authentic Italian -a gem in the north end.
Usually they serve delicious home made pasta, this last time it tasted like boxed pasta 😒. Also we sat near the kitchen and it smelt like toilet bowl cleaner 😖. This place used to be one of my favs, but going to take a break after my last experience
Had mushroom risotto wasn’t creamy or as tasty as other places . Others had the lasagnas they didn’t like how mushy the Hamburg was they compared it to chef Boyardee they had as kids. And we all prefer creamy Caesar dressing The waitress was super nice. It was a bit cold as we sat in the outdoor heated tent area. I have been there before and will go again Will order differtly.
Wonderful meal and fantastic service. I will definitely return.
Great food, service and ambiance. Will definitely come back!
