Trattoria Il Panino
and back of the house form a desirable marriage. The entrance on 260 Hanover street has a full liquor license.
I always expect a very good meal when dining in the North End this was just ok. The shrimp limoncello is a bit pricey for 4 shrimp. They were good size , but lacked any real flavor from the limoncello sauce. I had ravioli porcini. They were good, the sauce was a bit heavy. The penne arrabbiata was different than most restaurants. It was made with green hot peppers not chilli flakes, it lacked any spicy kick and had an odd taste. My wife only had a few bites. The waiter was accommodating and took it off the bill.
This was our best “dine out Boston” (restaurant week) meal! Great tasting food and prompt service. We asked our server for recommendations on the menu and his advice did not disappoint!! We will be back
Food was bad. Lobster chewy and cold- shrimp were salty and old. Fish was undercooked- Martini was room temperature and so sweet 😏
My daughters chicken parmigiana was undercooked and cold. My husbands steak was well done and chewy when we ordered it medium.
Fries were good and my beer was the best part of my expensive meal.
No, don’t recommend, neither would come back.
I use to love this place but it has very much done down hill. The food is okay compared to other places on the street. The service is horrendous as they try and rush you out and the servers have zero personality. Will likely not be returning for a while.
The food is amazing. I got the mushroom ravioli and do not have one negative thing to say about it, it was spectacular. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because they sat us in basically an entry way. It seemed like just a small takeout area, not a nice Italian restaurant. I know they do have many large rooms in the back with a much better ambiance and seating, but for some reason sat us in one of the worst areas. You'd think they would seat those with a reservation in a better spot than just a walk-in, but maybe next time we will get to sit in one of the nicer rooms!
Great place to eat in the north end.
I highly recommend you try the Biztec Ribeye or the tortellini with cream sauce and ham. Both are to die for. Be prepared to spend some cash and note that if you are a larger party, you might be sat on the other side (which has a great ambience) but does NOT offer a full bar, just beer and wine.
We have been twice and both times it has been amazing.
Very clean and quick service ! We were seated immediately with our reservation. We went during Dine Out Boston week- only issue is there was no Dine Out Boston menu until we asked for it! The food portion for the entrees were filling! I barely had room for dessert after my appetizer and entree. Highly recommend for a causal dinner with friends or a date night out!
Authentic Italian in every way!!
Management ruined our experience. Had a 6:30 reservation and after waiting 40 minutes another group the same size as us who had just walked in was seated before us. We then spoke with the manager David to resolve the issue and he was extremely rude. He said “ I am not giving you anything for free, we are the number 1 restaurant in the north end for a reason.” We did not ask for anything for free, simply a kind explanation, with an apology and acknowledgement would have been appreciated. He was so rude, he belittled not only me, but his waitstaff as well. Aside from David the waitstaff was great. Unfortunately, we will never visit again and I advise all not to support an establishment where they condone behavior such as David’s.
Went for Dine Out Boston. Our waitress was prompt and attentive. We got the meatballs and a Caesar salad for an app. The meatballs were a touch cold when they came out but tasted delicious. The Caesar salad left something to be desired. We both loved our entrees, the gnocchi and the tortellini. For dessert the two options were tiramisu and a cannoli. The ricotta filling in the cannoli was a touch sweet for my taste but overall both good were very good. Was a bit noisy for the north end, and there was a full bar with TVs which I was not expecting.
Great food and great service. We had a ball.
Very nice classic Italian restaurant in the North End. It's worth it to use the Valet parking they offer if you drive. It's pricey, but there is no parking in the North End, so worth every penny!
There are two sides to this restaurant. Their ambiance is somewhat different. I prefer the older section whose entry is on a side street. Food is good on both sides.
Great place, decent prices, over attentive server, loud
Incredibly rushed- ordered and had meals out within 10 minutes. Felt rushed and pushed along the entire dinner. Food good but not an enjoyable experience.
Best restaurant in the north end!
Truly some of the best Italian food in the North End! The manager Dave is incredible and even gave us a free round of limoncello shots at the end of our meal. Our waiter Tino was so friendly and hospitable, and out party left feeling fantastic. This place is a Boston MUST!
Excellent meal and service!
Nice place, food was delicious. As far as north end standards... it would not be in my top 5. Water glasses were dirty, menu was torn, food served in pan (would have liked a plate). Food was very good and high quality but competition is fierce.
Our favorite! Service is always professional and fast! Our favorite place to get pasta. You can tell their raviolis are homemade. The lobster ravioli is to die for!
Everything was great. Enjoyed dining there very much. A bit noisy because the resturant was filled but most improtantly the food was teffiric.
We have tried many italian restaurants in the north end and this is by far our favorite. Great food!
It was tasty but it’s the north end of Boston
I expected more
We judge every Italian meal by the standard of mare de monte in Worcester ma ...
If you want the beat Italian food go there !
Great food. We didn’t realize that the main dining room area was only open for dinner, at least on Saturdays. Nonetheless it was a very enjoyable experience. Mushroom ravioli was out of this world.
Great food and service
We felt a bit rushed but once we expressed we were staying and drinking a bottle of wine we were fine. Delicious food!!
Wonderful authentic Italian food! I haven’t seen stuffed zuchini flowers since being in Italy many years ago. Wonderful server, Piero, had great suggestions and made it a fabulous experience for me and my teenage son. Highly recommend!
Good food! Good service and reasonably priced!
Veal chop Parmesan! Always the best. Mario takes care of us as usual .
My husband and I went on Sunday night and sat near the kitchen. When we first walked in it seemed very loud, but within mi it’s the experience was so warm and quaint that I immediately stopped hearing the kitchen noise.
We loved every moment of our dinner. Our server was great the food was fantastic and we love the fact that our meals were served in a pan.
The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. Homemade pasta, what more could you ask for? :)
our waiter was phenomenal- even went out to buy birthday candles for the cake we had bought! Food was amazing!! and well priced. Seating took longer than the reservation time but they had an indoor waiting area for us
My favorite restaurant! I’ve been going to Il Panino for close to 30 years. Food and service are always outstanding. I love that now our daughters love this special place as much as we do!
So good!!! The ragu was comfort food like I've never had. Amazing place!
We had a reservation for 6 pm. Unfortunately, we were not seated until 6:25 and the service was a bit slow due to the large number of people being seated at the same time. We were seated in the middle of two tables that were about 6 inches apart, so privacy was hard to come by. The waiter did his best and the food was delicious as always.
Best Italian food I have had since I was in Florence, Italy. Amazing staff, service, outstanding food.
Move em in, move em out. Ok, I get it...it was a Saturday night on Hanover St., so that was to be expected. We were there to meet friends and to have gluten-free pasta available for our daughter with celiac disease. Despite the noise and cramped quarters, service was efficient if not personable and the pasta was really good. We were seated in the lowest level of the oldest part of the restaurant, so my expectations for ambiance were low to begin with. That said, I'd hesitate to come here again as there are so many other options in the North End with excellent food and a more welcoming surrounding.
If you are in the North End you have to try this great Italian Restaurant!!
Thought we were in for a great north end dinner. Mediocre at best. Hard bread. Food comes out too fast, clearly pre prepared
Sat in the basement next to a door to outside propped open with a mop. To use the bathroom you have to go upstairs, walk through a dining/serving areA and then outside!!
Probably a good place for those who have never tasted the real thing
