Trattoria Il Panino
and back of the house form a desirable marriage. The entrance on 260 Hanover street has a full liquor license.
Two entrances/sides to restaurant; a little confusing as the other half of our party ended up on the bar side. Host (who I think was the owner) was very nice and very accommodating. Allowed us to wait in the bakery next door so we weren't freezing cold outside. The older, smaller side of the restaurant we dined was very authentic and cozy (which we liked and wanted for a restaurant in the North End), but only served beer and wine. The other side seemed a little bigger, newer, and livelier and has a full bar, so get your cocktails over there before you sit for dinner. Meals were served in pans so stayed warm and all were delicious. Loved the meat in the ragu pasta and burrata meatballs.
Had a great time, needed a great date location while traveling, was so pleased with the entire experience. Meatball starter was great, Ragu was fantastic, wine pairings were spot on. Intimate, steady bustle of activity, warm greeting, very happy overall. Would definitely recommend.
The food and service were outstanding! Our waiter made the entire dining experience very enjoyable.
The food was very good, the calamari appetizer was light and very fresh. The pasta was excellent and the sauce was very good. The braciole was very tender and tasted delicious. The service was good and we would definitely go back. The area we were seated was not the best and due to how cold it was outside made it very drafty in the side dining room for dinner.
Food was excellent. A little disappointed desert was not available.
Great food and amazing experience.
As always, fantastic meal. Carbonara and sea bass were a favorite.
We had a very authentic Italian and non-traditional Thanksgiving dinner! It was delightful!
Just like Italy! Even my very picky dad was impressed!
I have been going to this restaurant for years and it never disappoints! The food, atmosphere and attentive staff are amazing Year after year!
Best Italian food in Boston.
Awesome pasta and great energy in this restaurant. Classic Italian! Highly recommend!
Simply amazing. We will continue to come back. Il Panino never disappoints. You guys are great!
came here with my family visiting out of town around 630pm. it wasn’t loud until the 730 reservations came in. food was delicious, service was good. all the waiters and bussers were attentive! don’t expect to get dessert and coffee after your meal since they suggest to go to their sister restaurant (which is cash only:( overall food was good. highly recommend ravioli porcini and moms quarto
Have been coming here for 25 years. Never had a bad experience or meal.
The food was lovely, the service was ok. I did love this popular Italian in the North End. It was lively, popular and a good ambience. My one criticism was the lighting - it was too dark. I had to use the light on my phone to read the menu, as a deaf person I couldn’t lipread the waiter or anyone else and it was difficult to see our food.
Good service, average food.
My husband and I took his parents when they were in town for a visit. We make homemade pasta frequently and although the restaurant say their pasta is homemade, it certainly didn't taste that way. The food was ok, but for the price I was not at all impressed. The service was ok, though there was a lot of reaching all over the table to fill water/pick up plates. I would not return here.
Delicious homemade pasta, great wine selection and nice draft selection. Romantic, cozy place and attentive wait staff. Overall, great experience.
Great gem downtown Boston. Service was exceptional, food was delicious, great place for a date
We had to modify our 6:30pm reservation twice because we were running late. We got there 25 minutes before our (final) reservation, and they had no problem accommodating us so that we didn’t have to wait until our reservation of 7:45. The food was fantastic and they served our pasta in stainless steel frying pans, which my girlfriend and I thought was a really nice touch. The place was really clean and warm. The food was pretty reasonably priced considering the portion size and market price for the area. Wait staff was attentive, our water glasses never reached the bottom before our waiter would come over and refill us. They really lived up to the reviews I had read online. Trattoria Il Panino helped me make a very happy birthday woman!
Went here for a girls night out dinner and it was delicious! We had a blast! Will definitely go back again
I've been dining at the Trattoria Il Panino for twenty years, and I've never had anything other than delicious meals served by superb staff. If you want a delicious Italian meal served by friendly and available staff then this is your spot.
Great place anda service with very good Italian dishes.
Great food but the prices have gone up a lot in the past few years. With all the appetizers around $15, it can get pricey. Is a high price for the very casual atmosphere. We were outside in the tented/heated patio. I like it out there but feel it has become overpriced for what it is.
Great food! Tough to get to the front of the line to talk to the man about getting seated, but really amazing food
Food was amazing! However we went on a Saturday night and it was extremely crowded. We were looking for a more intimate dinner and felt very rushed as the line was out the door. Could barely move there were so many people and felt like the servers were rushing us to finish and leave. When we asked to see the desert and coffee menu we were told that because it was Saturday they do not do coffee or dessert. I understand they are very busy and trying to turn tables but it was unfortunate as it was a dinner with friends from out of town and felt more of a quick meal than a sit down evening. It would have been much better on a week night.
It was an amazing meal! We will definitely go back and also we will recommend it to everyone!!
We arrived at our 5:30 reservation to find a line to get in the door and a hostess station overly stressed. We were seated downstairs where it started out a bit noisy due to two large parties in the room . That soon subsided and our EXCELLENT waitperson helped get the situation back on track. She was attentive and got our food out and settled (somehow using magic) the table making all of the noise. The food was outstanding and so was her effort. Will go again-maybe on a Sunday
Perfect spot for a date! Must visit for everybody who wants to experience Italian North End hospitality!
Food was great. Service and ambiance was great. Make reservation! Be ready to pay for valet parking at $28.
Food was fantastic and service was good. Food came out quickly and such a busy night.
Rushed us through meal . While eating salad they asked us if they could serve meal,we said please wait till done with salads. They brought main course to table anyway. While eating dessert they took my unfinished glass of wine without asking . This was our second time there ,first time very nice engaging waiter, this time it was move them through meal quickly. Never written a review before but the service really was a disappointment.
We went there on a Monday night so not too busy. Sat in the bar area at a table - very cold every time the door opened! Our server was very tough to find when we needed him. Asked for a minute to look at the menu and he didn't come back for a half hour. Food was fine but not outstanding so pair that with being uncomfortably cold and poor service AND fairly high prices and it's not a great experience. Wouldn't go back. So many other cozier places in the north end with great service AND food!
The food was good but not great. I ordered lobster ravioli and it was not served hot which was disappointing as it would have tasted better I'm sure. The bread was delicious! We felt like we were being rushed to order and eat so they could turn our table. I will give them another chance but honestly, there are better restaurants in the North End.
Enjoyable, quick, would come again
The food was good overall. Prices aren’t too bad. I got the grilled seafood spread- it was lukewarm when it came out and the squid was charred so much that it was all I could taste, I couldn’t eat it. The rest of the seafood was good. Our server was great :-) My parents meals were both very good (carbonara, Lobster ravioli). It was SO LOUD in there which really took away from the experience. Wine was good but was served too cold as far as red whine goes. It’s usually served room temperature
We have been here many times, the food is incredible! We were a bit put off by being told we had a wait even though we had a reservation. We had to get to a show so having a set reservation was key. The hostess didn't seem to care. Eventually we got our table and our wait staff was great. Please keep in mind when people make reservations it is probably because they are on a timeline.!
