Trattoria Il Mulino Ratings and Reviews
Food was not as good as I expected. The seafood in my linguine di mare was overcooked and the pasta was clumpy. Service was attentive so points for that, but it was almost overly so and at times felt intrusive. Certainly not a bad evening, but for those prices I'm not in a rush to go back.
The food was very good and the environment was great, but the service was awful. The restaurants was about half full and it still took about 20 minutes for us to get menus and drinks after we were seated. The waitstaff was not attentive throughout the evening so we ended up ending the meal early and took our desserts to go.
Nice new Italian specialty with a modern look (pipes and lamps hanging on ceiling like in some construction zone). Good fun vibe; good food, including a few extra tapas like apps delivered to the table. Thanks. Veal was delish - as were the desserts (especially tiramisu, that actually had a good coffee flavor)
The staff were very friendly and accommodating before and during the meal. Unfortunately, the food was distinctly average at best. Not particularly wrong, although the fish was not cooked correctly and some of food combinations seemed strange. One salad consisted only of a massive slice of red onion, a massive slice of tomato, and bacon. Some of the portions seemed a little on the stingy side and we were greatly relieved to eat the accompanying bread. When the best dish on the table seems to be pizza, then a trattoria needs to try a bit harder.
We took advantage of the Winter Restaurant Week Dinner. There were 6 choices for entree. With the exception that we received the wrong entree at first, the service was very good. The Servers were very attentive and also provided a complimentary digestif. I would recommend the restaurant as the all courses very typical Italian and the Menu provided good value.
Went to lunch to celebrate my roommate's birthday. Part of the reason we picked the place was their restaurant week menu. The food was delicious but that charged us $9 for water! It seemed like that water was from the tap (which is perfectly fine, but I shouldn't be charged for it). They also asked us several times if we wanted any wine. I understand the restaurant needs to make money but part of the point of restaurant week is to make fine dining more accessible to everyday people. Don't participate if you're so desperate that you have to charge for water. Overall the food was fantastic and the atmosphere was nice but I left feeling a bit ripped off. An unfortunate end to what should have been a perfect birthday treat.
I dined at Trattoria Il Mulino with a group of friends for restaurant week. The food was absolutely delicious. We had an issue with the menu as the menu posted on the restaurant week website listed 4 courses (which we had confirmed this with the hostess ahead of time), but the menu provided at the restaurant only showed 3 courses for the same price. We brought this up with our server who quickly remedied the situation. The manager came over to apologize and offered us a 4th course on the house. Handled the situation beautifully. What I will remember more than the terrific Italian food is the great customer service. Will definitely be back
The positive about our experience visiting here is that we were just married the day before. We anticipated a gentler crowd but instead found that the table that just paid and was about to leave was joined by several new idiots that joined in the foul mouth brigade. Other guests simply up and left and while I do think we are tolerant, we are more forgiving because the staff was excellent as was the service, food presentation and taste of this wonderful Italian cuisine.
Owners/Managers beware that the BS factor doesn't work and neither do free drinks.
We may return when we visit NY again but won't be expecting the same because there are plenty of other places in Chelsea to visit.
Had these clients not been there then we would have enjoyed a bottle of wine along with dinner. Thank you for all the positive but don't sacrifice or endure these type of drunken, loud mouth guests for the sake of a few dollars because they will ruin your chances for success. You had one large table of fools but you lost at least three tables of guests looking for something authentic and good.
The restaurant was pretty pricey, and the food wasn't amazing. One of the people at my table's meat was cooked well done and he ordered it medium rare. There wasn't even a dot of pink on the meat so they took it back. When they came back with the meat the second time it was still barely pink. This time he kept it (because he doesnt like to be fussy), and because the other three people at the table were basically done with their meals. The restaurant didn't do anything to compensate for this either, and this was a $50 plate. Probably won't be back.
Very good Italian restaurant. The food choices were overwhelming and everything we had was pretty good. Octopus appetizer was outstanding although not much for the price. Fried artichoke was a bit over fried and again not much for the price.
Main courses however were better. Veal Milanese, Veal Chop and Chicken Parm were all very big portions and all very good.
Wine choices were good and prices were all over so you could have what you wanted.
The atmosphere is the main attraction. Everyone seemed to be having a great time and the feeling becomes contagious!
Service was terrible. Spoke to the manager who had no apologies or any kind of professionalism. Dirty dishes left in the table as the waiter was no where to be found when we needed something. All three couples were so disappointed especially for the money we spent
