Trattoria I Trulli Ratings and Reviews
Trattoria I Trulli has served folks well for years. The food recalls the eastern coast of Italy; the wine list broadly reflects the region and is fairly priced. The carbonara and ravioli plus minestrone were Italian comfort food served on a brilliant fall day; everything about the restaurant left us happy and contented. The young men who served were attentive but not obtrusive.
The food is fantastic. It's a very small place and we were lucky enough to be there early on a Saturday, just as they opened, so we got a table but I hear that they are usually very crowded. They have special equipment on the walls to absorb noise, which I don't see very often in restaurants. Fantastic service also.
We went for lunch during restaurant week. The food was excellent. If there were such delicious dishes as these on the menu all the time, we would go more often! The service was friendly and courteous but somewhat erratic - the paired wines did not arrive
with the food.....in fact, with the appetizer course the wine was forgotten and had to be asked for. A 20% gratuity was added which we didn't mind atall during restaurant week except that it was added to the total including tax. We expect to tip on food and wine
but definitely not on the tax.
In conclusion, we highly recommend going for the great food but would hope for some improvement in the service and the way the gratuity is calculated.
We have two small children and rarely get to go out as husband and wife. We went to I Trulli as it has always been a favorite. Either ownership has changed or a new chef has arrived as both of our meals were extremely bland and very disappointing. Even the bread that was served was tasteless. Sorry - but don't think we'll be back....which we are bummed about.
We were extremely disappointed in this restaurant. It came highly rated and we were not impressed. The bread needs to be improved significantly and some of our dishes were over cooked. The minestrone soup was excellent as well as the dipping sauce, but my three fish platter was not good. The fish was over cooked and tasteless. The seafood lasagna was over cooked as well. The service was very good considering how busy they were. We will not return......
I Trulli, 2 days in a row, celebrating my husbands birthday for lunch, next day a friend chose I Trulli, for his birthday.. I made a reservation for 8 and extended it to 10, requested table set by the french doors, food was FAB as always..Everyone was delighted..to be at I Trulli..Thanks again for a great dining experience.
This is one of the better Italian restaurants in North County. I guess my only complaint is that they DROWN the food in red sauce. But the eggplant was good, the Pollo 101 is great (sort of chicken marsala with mushrooms, nice veggies). We sat outside on the cramped little terrace but it's nice to be outside and we enjoyed ourselves. Inside can get VERY noisy, especially on Saturday night.
I was disappointed in the wine. I had a $11 glass of Italian pinot noir and it was warm. Probably not stored correctly.
All in all, I will come back here on a regular basis even though it doesn't compare to the best LA restaurants.
Very small place. We were seated at a small table sandwhiched between two other tables/couples. Was hard not to hear evermore of their discussion. Anyway, the food was excellent but did take awhile to get it. The manager did apologize for the delay and comp'd us an amazing desert. Hopefully we'll get a better table and quicker service the next time we go back.
Hostess gave us lunch menus for dinner. When "server" dropped off iced waters we asked if we could order drinks from him. His response was "That's why I'm here". Not a response we were expecting. I tried to order sweetbreads entree, server said they did not have it. I ordered the lobster ravioli instead. Meal was completely bland, had to add salt, pepper, and the dipping sauce they give you for their bread to be able to mildly enjoy. Server did not return for awhile so once he did we just asked for the check and didnt bother complaining. Will not return.
We've had several great lunches at this sweet little Italian spot so I was confident it would be great for my mother's B.D. The service was a little less attentive and the entrees a little less impressive. I had a fish trio that was, frankly, plain. But I don't want to dwell on that one meal. It simply could' ve been a slightly off kilter evening. We truly love this gem and will certainly return for lunch
Trattoria I Trulli is a neighborhood gem in that locals have been going there for years! Food is what you would expect from a family Italian place- Better than home, but not gourmet. Kids and adults will find something they like. Portions are very plentiful! You won't go home hungry, Service is super friendly!
I ordered rare salmon (special menu item)and it was served well done. The corn soup was a total disappointment (thin broth with very little corn and very salty taste). I have eaten here many time over the last 8 years and this was the worst service and food I have experienced at this restaurant. Usually the food is very good and the service is great. The restaurant was not crowded when I arrived so it could not be that they were too busy.
We are new to the area and a few neighbors recommended Trulli. After several weekend attempts (they only take reservations during the week) , we finally made a midweek reservation. Initially they sat us near the door but our server quickly saw we were not too pleased and he moved us to a larger table with less traffic. We enjoy a good plate of pasta and are suckers for a good wine list....we were not disappointed. The service was attentive and pleasant which is a definite deal breaker no matter how good the food. We will make it one of our neighborhood regulars.
The food was great but overall the experience was not good! I had a reservation for Mother's Day. First off, they let someone take my reservation for a party of 8!! WHAT the HECK!!! And then we were told that they were closing at 2:30.......5 minutes after we got there (I had called to tell them we were running late). And I had originally made a reservation on Opentable for 2:30 that I then changed to 2:00. So they agreed to seat us but I could tell the staff was a bit irritated. We were told we had to order immediately because the kitchen was closing. Overall the food is very good but the experience was poor!!! Way too much stress for a meal out!
This has long been a favorite restaurant for us. We spend a month and a half in Solana Beach every year, and make it a point to get to I Trulli at least once, if not more often. I'd recommend reservations: this is a very popular place, which can get busy even at an early hour on a Monday evening!
We have never had a bad meal here, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. This is not haute cuisine gourmet dining, but it IS creative, fresh and delicious.
