Trattoria Dell'Arte Ratings and Reviews
This was a special birthday dinner for which we made an advance reservation. Arrived at restaurant to find linecoutcthe door. Host just sat us at any table and did not even ask about reservation. Restaurant very loud and crowded. Waiter rushing around, brought salad, appetizer and dinner all at one time. Temperature of food was cold. Very disappointed at the dining experience.
I don't live in New York, but visit often and I always try to go to Trattoria Dell'Arte. You just can't beat their antipasto bar - there are usually some seasonal choices - but there are always fabulous vegetables cooked in a variety of wonderful ways. Obviously, I love it!
Not a positive experience. The restaurant way overbooked and there were many people waiting long past their reservation time. The hostess station is in the middle of the restaurant so there was a line winding it’s way around the room as people tried to check in. Now add servers trying to deliver food. Now imagine sitting at a table and getting jostled as you try to eat. Will not come here again. Only recommended if you go during off hours.
waited 25 minutes for table even though we had a 730 reservation booked 3 weeks in advance and asked for main dining room.
the first table in balcony offered was so bad I would hit my head on the ceiling that was only about 6'5''high so they stuck us in a narrow seating area unfit for 2 people
My right arm was about 6'' from the next table.
tHE ANTIPASTI WAS AWFUL: Potato au gratin tasteless and like cardboard..mushrooms grainy and over salted,; caponata was good. The server offered to remove the antipasti charge from the bill but did not when bill was presented. Bread offered:had to ask 3 times for butter /oil to get it. entrees were minimalist and very overpriced for quality. Meals took a long time to arrive.
our server tried to be helpful but too much worked against her. I would NOT recommend this place or have another meal there again until I saw some change in attitude and focus on customer satisfaction. There are too many good restaurants in NYC to put up with nonchalance.
I would have bailed on the place after arrogance about table but date was hungry so we stayed. The only good thing was the wine (Malbec) was good but very very overpriced. We did tip the waitress 20% as she tried to make the meal better
Good Luck if you are silly enough go there
We were seated at the worst table in the house, right next to the door and it was snowing outside so every time the door opened the cold air was freezing. We asked for another table because we didn’t want to wear our winter coats at dinner and we had to wait over 45 minutes for another table even though we had a reservation! They told us they had another table for us but all they did was make us get out of our table so they could seat another couple at our table. When we finally got another table We waited over 20 minutes for water and bread. The food was average at best and needed seasoning. This was very disappointing since we were very excited about eating here. I would not recommend this restaurant and would not go back again!
It had been a few years since we dined at Trattoria Dell and I was as pleased with our dining experience as I had remembered. My wife and I were entertaining our niece and her friend on their first trip to the Big Apple and dinner was a big hit to start our Saturday evening. The menu offered the girls a nice choice for pizza and my wife and I pasta and steak.. Service was excellent and the food matched. It won't be as long between this and our next visit.
Enjoyed the entire night. Had drinks first at the bar, then moved to our table which was situated nicely in the main dining area. Waitress was Sarah (ask for her). Never rushed us but was always around if we had a question. App bar is over the top with great tasting items. Main course was terrific and the desserts we excellent as well. Thumbs up all the way around.
We had 6:00 p.m. reservations for pre-theatre dining. Due to incredible NYC traffic, our taxi ride took over an hour to reach the restaurant. We called and they held our reservation. Arrived at 6:45 p.m. We were quickly served and made our concert at Carnegie Hall across 7th Avenue with ease. Kudos to Dell'Arte.
At the early hour of 5 p.m., before the restaurant had even 6 customers, we were greeted by an extremely abrupt and rude male maitre di, who instantly blew off our inquiry about being seated in one particular dining area. He was even ruder when I explained that I had an additional reservation for Trattoria two nights later, and in spite of having directly in front of him repeat customers for later in the week, he very rudely blew us off.
This is the most unpleasant restaurant encounter I have ever had, and I happened to have lived and dined in the maitre di's European homeland for three years.
Our bill was a mess. Two dishes which we never ordered were added to our bill, and there was not even a quick "sorry" from the waitstaff.
It will be a long time, if ever, that I return to Trattoria Dell'Arte.
Just super disappointing. We have been going for years but haven’t been for awhile. Terrible service. It took two hours to get our food! Mine came raw. (Swordfish special). They never came over. Never tried to rectify situation. Final straw. They couldn’t even get us our check!! My husband had to go to the bar.
They even deleted our reservation to try not to get a bad review. The said ‘sorry’. Nothing more. Just poor customer service.
We won’t go back.
We have been visiting this restaurant for many years whenever we visit NYC BECAUSE IT IS FUN AND WE NEED A GREAT VEAL CHOP ONCE IN A WHILE. You cannot find a good veal chop in Minnesota. This is a great spot for a lively gathering of friends. This year we had six crazy cousins from Long Island, two rich hedge fund managers from Connecticut, and three couples from a small town in Minnesota. We partied there for HOURS late into the night eating fabulous pizzas, good and not outrageous wines, martinis, awesome food, and free cookies since we had no room for dessert. Our waiter Jonny from Peru chose our wines and was TOP NOTCH. HOPE THIS PLACENEVER CHANGES.
It was a first visit to NYC & this restaurant was highly recommended by 2 friends. The food was excellent, but it was extremely loud. Not conducive to conversation! That aside, it was a lively Atmosphere & seemed to have a lot of return patrons that knew the servers & the management. Very crowded which Is always a good sign.
Tratoria is across 7th Ave from Carnegie Hall and my usual dining spot when I go there. It is definitely Italian and I always have the Veal Scallopini which is excellent, but the menu is quite comprehensive and should meet most tastes. Food is fresh and well prepared, service efficient, will get you out on time. Place is very busy in early eve but you can still have a conversation without shouting.
Be aware of false promises!
We were a group of 10 , I even came on Friday ( two days before the celebration) to make sure our location at the restaurant and the setting of the tabel is reasonable
I called again on Sunday to make sure we are all set and then we got there nothing was ready and we seated at the far corner of the restaurant in a row ( not as we have discussed)
This happened about 20 minutes after the scheduled time and not as promised
When I asked the manger what happened ? We were promised different setting at a different location he “ don’t believe promises)
The service was horrible , I guess the restaurant was under staff ,
We didn’t get everything we ordered
The server was conceited confused and unprofessional
The food was reasonable but some dishes were cold !!!
Horrible experience, destroyed our evening !!!
I will never go there again nor recommend my frieds to dine there
The worst service I have ever experienced. We had to ask for silver ware, napkins, they forgot one but would bring the other. They forgot our drinks & charged us for it. It was my moms birthday & they brought out dessert that we didn't order & charged us for it.
They removed it because I asked. Overall horrible experience. I would not recommend it at all
Food was actually good, the service tonight was poor. Asked 3 times for water, still didn't get it but found another server delivering to his table and stopped him. We our server once to place the order, flagged her down two other times for water, and flagged her down for the check. No one checked to see how our appetizers or meals were - it would have been nice to have been offered grated cheese or actually bring the water.
People next to us were sitting for 15 minutes without anyone coming to the table. I stopped my server (when I asked for water the 3rd time) and told her about them. It still took another 5 minutes and the people had to flag someone down to finally get service.
No one cleaned our table off and the food runner had to ask someone to bus the table from our appetizer course so he could serve dinner.
Finally, we came to celebrate a birthday as noted through this app when we made the reservation and even told the host upon arrival. Although we saw another table brought a dessert with candle (so I know they do that stuff) we just got our check and left without a mention of the occasion for the server.
I did let the manager know on the way out, I feel he should be walking the restaurant and be in tune on the experience of his customers. It seemed the server had too many tables - at least two parties of 5 plus another three tables with either 2 or 4 customers. We Had higher expectations, especially for the price.
Had terrible waiter no service at all. Table was not set properly, no bread given, no specials, had to ask for everything even napkins. Saw the waiter to order and that was it. never came by once to check on us. Terrible service very unhappy. wish we had a better time for my husbands birthday. Food to expensive for such crappy service given. tried to complain but maître d' was to busy running around. Wish we had as good a time as the other reviews stated. We have been here many times before, but will not return after this last night. We left and went next door to Red eye grill for dessert which was fantastic! The wait staff was so friendly and smiling over us to please us.
