Surprisingly excellent food
The Lobster pasta was perfect - not too much cheese or bacon and the artichokes were crispy and delicious.

Good choice while in the city. Good selection from small plates to full meals. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Both our meals were satisfying.

The staff were extremely welcoming and we had a great time from when we sat down to when we left. Sarah and her team who looked after us were fantastic. One of our best family meals.

We have been going here for years when we visit New York. This time was pretty bad as they were overwhelmed and began to seat people in the basement. I had a 7:30 reservation and I had to fight my way to the podium to let them know I was there. The line was next to tables and I can"t imagine seating at one of these where people are hovering all night next to the table. The host greeted me and said "I have a perfect table next to our fireplace". Right! Next to the kitchen door where if I stood up I could get a glimpse of the fireplace. Prices have soared since our last visit in June of this year as well. With that visit that will mark the last time we go to this herding machine.

Trattoria del Arte, is a no level restaurant. Noise level loud due to pre theater crowd. Suggest dining 7:30 Or later. Pizza was light as a feather and delicious, we had it as an appetizer. The risotto was creamy, tasty. Our friends had chicken, veal, liver dishes, all well prepared, delicious.

We chose this restaurant based on good reviews and it’s proximity to Carnegie Hall where we were attending a concert.
The food was ok, two orders of the veal picata got mixed reviews. One of our party said hers was chewy the other said his was good. I had the short ribs with polenta. The polenta was smothered in gravy and tasted like it had freezer burn. The ribs were just ok. The “star” of the dinner was the lasagna bolognaise. Lots of meat and flavorful but the noodles were over cooked. It’s also big enough for two to share. All sides are a la carte. The prices are too high given the quality of the food.
The restaurant is very busy, noisy and the service was perfunctory.
They do have a good selection of Italian red wines. We had a bottle of the Brunello which was very nice and reasonably priced.

My group of 6 was stuck in traffic coming in to the city and we were going to be about 30 minutes late for our 6:15 dinner reservation. The hostess couldn't have been any nicer over the phone when we told her we would be late and once we arrived they seated us right away so we could eat and get to our 8:00 show at Carnegie Hall. The restaurant was absolutely filled when we arrived but they never gave away our table and took excellent care of us. Did I mention that the food was also great! I will definitely be back.

I asked for a quiet table on Open Table and we were seated in a perfect little alcove. Our server was attentive and helpful. We did not want to rush even though we had concert tickets. It was well timed. The bread was crusty and chewy, very delicious. We selected the buratta and 3 apps.
All of them were vegetables were seasoned nicely and not overcooked. We enjoyed the paper thin crust and sauce which was very flavorful. Cappucinno and cannolis completed a wonderful dinner.

The spaghetti with clams was superb. My husband commented that he was over-fed with the huge lasagna. We adored the artichokes. But what I like most about the Trattoria del Arte is the vivacity of the environment. One feels happy here.

A madhouse of a place good only because it's across the street from Carnegie Hall and close to City Center. Brash waiter service, no appologies when they bump into your chair repeatedly because of too close spacing. Unremarkable food at ridiculous overpricing. Left with a headache. Manhattan streets seemed quiet in comparison!

We were first shown a table for two in a hallway which I rejected. They then brought us upstairs and we sat beneath a window that they use to call or signal each other. There was so much traffic going by our table that it was unpleasant. It was also VERY busy. Yes it was before a concert but that's not unusual for the location. The food was good. Large portions.

A friend and I enjoyed dinner before a concert at Carnegie Hall, across the street. Service was enthusiastic, friendly and accommodating to our schedule. Portions were ample. The three antipasti we ordered, as well as the thin-crust pizza, were wonderful, as was my friend's "101-layer" lasagna and my veal piccata. For reasons of both time and over-ordering, we passed on dessert, but will return and leave room at that time! Noise level is very high, even in the more intimately scaled low-ceilinged front upstairs space, and our table was crammed into a small space next to the top of the stairs, but we managed.

We had 7:00 reservation on a Tuesday night which put us right in the middle of the pre-theater crowd. Nonetheless we were seated almost immediately. The host gave us what he refers to as the “Prince and Princess” table located in an alcove at the back of the main dining room. We were seated side by side and enjoyed a view of the entire restaurant.
I started with the ribolito soup while my wife chose the beet and goat cheese salad. We shared the prosciutto platter. For entrees, we went with the tuna and the branzino. The tuna was sushi grade and seared perfectly. I elected to have the balsamic on the side. The branzino was plated whole, but with the head and tail cut from the body which was totally deboned. Moist and nicely seasoned, the branzino was delicious.
Portions were generous and we were too full to try any of the desserts...maybe next time.
Service throughout our meal was attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back.

This has been a standby for me for over 25 years for every sort of occasion and particularly visitors - but looks like this relationship is ending . Hadn't been for some months and took some family from out of town. Something has happened to the food. So ordinary, bland and just not what I had ever experienced before. Waitress pretty uninterested. Couldn't really believe it. The antipasti used to be fabulous - couldn't count how many times have I had this for lunch. But the selection was meager and the taste absent. A simply awful polenta based vegetarian osso bucco. Small pasta helpings. Oily fried artichokes. No olive oil offered with the bread. Don't know if I will be going back there - major disappointment.

I was really disappointed with the evening experience. The staff was courteous, that's the good part. Outside of that, the service was spotty, one of the entrees got lost so we were at the table with 3 entrees cooling while we waited for the 4th. Finally we agreed to proceed, when the 4th entree arrived it was cool to the touch as if it was prepared with the other three but mis-placed. It was the same with our soups and salads they came out in three different times. The waiter quickly took the cold entree out and prepared a new one this time warm.

It has been about 4 years since we last ate here and we were so looking forward to it as we had raved about it with the other couple we made reservations for. Frustrating to see one of our favorites go down so much.
