The menu focuses on northern Italian specialties such as the steak Florentine, double veal chop, seafood specialties of the Mediterranean, and unforgettable desserts.

My friends and I often come here before matinee performances at the City Center. We most recently had brunch at Trattoria Dell'Arte on Sunday, March 24. The food was delicious as always, and I particularly liked the small portion of Dover sole for a reasonable price -- a reasonably priced Dover sole is not something seen very often. Overall, however, while the food is creative and well prepared, it is fairly expensive considering the ingredients that predominate (brunch favorites include various preparations of eggs, sweets of various types, vegetables, pizza and the like). The staff is always very nice and welcoming. Yesterday the service was a bit slow (it usually isn't), and multiple requests were necessary several times. On the whole, though, it was a nice experience, and we certainly will be back.
Once again Trattoria Dell'Arte was wonderful!! Our friends loved it & are looking forward to a return visit--everytime I go I wonder why I didn't return sooner!!
Been here handful of times before and have to say this was the least memorable dinner we have ever had there. Ordered the veal chop parmigiana which I have ordered every time before. the chop was much much thinner than previous times and ordered a side of spaghetti which was less than any time before. When u spend $50.00 for a veal chop i expect much more than a thin piece of veal.. the side of spaghetti was a disappointment at $13.00.
My wife ordered lobster carbonara and this to was a disappointment. Very few pieces of lobster in her meal.
Maybe it was just a off night but with all options available in the city I highly doubt I would ever return.
We were seated immediately upon arrival of all our guests. Maitre d was very personable.
Waiter John was phenomenal. We have a severe food allergy in our family, and he made sure all was exactly as it should be. We couldn't have been more pleased with his professional service.
Portions were very generous and we all had a wonderful time and felt well cared for, despite them have a full house!
Greeted by staff as soon as we arrived . We were escorted to special table (birthday) Complimentary Bubbly and birthday song.Great evening.
We were seated promptly and our server asked if we were trying to get out in time for a show. From that moment on, we had attentive service, delicious food, and lots of little “extras” that made us feel so special! Always consistent, Trattoria Dell’Arte is a NYC staple.
Service was horrible. We had to wait over 30 minutes for our entrees to arrive. The wait staff was apologetic saying that there was a ticket mix up and a manager said he would see to it that something would be done for us, but nothing was done for any reparation. One of the dishes even had to be sent back because it wasn't hot enough. The food was fine, but the experience left my party very disappointed.
A friend was performing with a choral group at Carnegie Hall and we were looking for someplace close. As she was in the mood for Italian food we picked Trattoria Dell'Arte.
We chose it primarily for its proximity to Carnegie Hall but we will return again for the food and the service. Both were nothing short of excellent and the bartender deserves a special shout out for the best Bloody Mary I have ever tasted!
Disappointing to visit a once favorite restaurant, now not more than ordinary, though service remains good.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is delicious and the service excellent. And you can hear what your guests are talking about using a normal conversational tone. I notice that the food is changing and getting better. I live in NYC and can easily select other places, but why not go where one is comfortable and happy?
Fun fun fun! Is it a restaurant or an art gallery?! Glass of Prosecco handed to me to make my 5 minute wait better. Wonderful food, wonderful people.
This place just gets it. Great food and better people! We go every time we visit NYC!
Exceptional food, wine and service! Highly recommend!
Best Itailin meal we’ve ever eaten! Ever.
Ask for Marco Polo, the waiter. He was fantastic!
I have taken large parties to TDA several times and this was the worst service we've ever had. When in NYC I expect to have exceptional waitstaff especially at an establishment such as this. One person had to ask for her meal several times, and when it finally showed up the meat was dry and everyone else at the table had already finished their meals.
This place is ideal for a pre-show dinner when going to Carnegie Hall since it is directly across 7th Avenue. It is very popular and we were on a 20 person line to be seated but the Host was very efficient. We were seated at a nice quiet table upstairs, but the restaurant was quite lively around us. Artwork and cool sculptures abound. Food was very good. We started with a fresh Little Gem Caesar Salad and a small plate of Italian Sausage and Peppers. Lots of flavor. We then had the Yellowfin Tuna Steak Balsamic Glazed Tuna (perfectly cooked sushi grade) and their Signature 101 Layer Lasagna Bolognese (more meat than sauce and quite delicious). Both were excellent but the portions were huge; these are easily shareable. We finished with their dark chocolate Tartufo with vanilla ice cream inside. It was amazing. We'll be back because the food was tasty and the menu had lots of good choices.
While the service was good, the restaurant is much too noisy and too bright. Additionally, theta les are very close together. Finally, the good while moderately expensive, was just blah,.
Trattoria is our favorite "special" place for us, with or without guests. The staff (including the managers) is friendly and efficient, responsive and helpful. The only missing element was the absence of cookies or chocolate brought to the table, and really don't know why. Noise grows as the place gets more crowded, which is understandable (and obvious).
Wonderful and perfect restaurant.
Great food options. Good prices. Service was amazing. Recommended a perfect dish for me. Hit the spot. The type of true Italian food that leaves you very satisfied but not heavy and sluggish
Pasta portions small for the price but good quality. Didn’t get a chance to try the thin crust pizza but it looked amazing!
Visiting New York on a holiday ... fancied Italian ... brilliant choice ... best pizza I’ve ever had and we’ve had a few ! Lovely starters too . Staff fab very helpful ... we planning to return before we leave next week .
Best food and best people ever. We have ben there many times and always great.
My husband and I had not been to Trattoria Dell'Arte for years after having gone their regularly for several years. I am very glad we returned. The food is as excellent as always. I had fried artichokes as an appetizer which were exceptional and scallops which I can't wait to have again. We will be back very soon.
Excellent as usual. Have been going over 20 years. Especially pleased with the thin crust pizza, which we had this trip.
The food was fine, but not special. The experience was very disappointing. The waiter was nice enough but it took 45 minutes for the second course to be brought, after the first was cleared. Had we not allowed extra time for our dinner we would have missed the show we were attending afterwards. There was no time for dessert. And it took fifteen minutes just to get to the reservation desk due to the long line to check in. Not a relaxing dining experience at all!
Server was a little abrupt. Said yeah let’s go when it was time to order.
The food at Trattoria Dell'Arte is excellent, and the service is friendly, attentive and efficient. For our party of six we enjoyed selection from the choices of antipasto and a salad for the table. When there was a delay in the kitchen, our waiter, without us saying anything, brought a plate with many more selections of antipasto. Everyone was pleased with the entrees, which included Dover sole, lasagna, risotto with seafood and papardelle with seafood, and the desserts which included extremely good chocolate mousse, tartuffo, and canelone. Unfortunately, particularly because of a very loud large party next to our table, it was very noisy until the restaurant started to empty out at the end of our meal and the large party left. However, in spite of the noise, all of us enjoyed our meal very much.
Fabulous! The food was terrific as was the wine. We all had a wonderful time.
Our waiter, Johnny, went above and beyond. Put a rush on our order, knowing we had a show to attend. Even brought us a stain stick when one in our party spilled something in his shirt. Food was delicious. Would def go back.
Pre-theatre it was solid. Noisy as hell and the waiters were too busy.
The restaurant itself is quite lovely and particularly the artwork. The host was cordial and welcoming however it was all downhill thereafter. They honored my table request (no.65) but the service was exceptionally poor. Our waiter seemed more interested in his other tables. He did wasn’t very knowledgeable of the menu & seemed uncertain when asked for his recommendations. We ordered a pizza ($30) that was luke warm, at best! Our entrees came out quick but the portions are clearly designed for a 10 year old, and I’m a small adult. There are FAR BETTER options in midtown. Look elsewhere
This experience was absolutely fabulous! The sight of having Carnegie Hall across the street, the ambient lighting, the attentive and exciting wait staff, and the overall atmosphere was superb. I would highly recommend this to everyone!
The food was tremendous. Our server was exceptional. He made the dinner a.truly wonderful experience.
Small portions - food was cold. Slow service. Won't ever go back. I am a travel agent and was very embarrassed I took my clients here.
We arrived on time for a reservation and were given 2 complimentary glasses of Prosecco, while we sat for maybe 5 minutes tops for a table. The waiter greeted us and recommended a couple of thing. While sipping our wine, he brought us some complimentary appetizers, which were excellent. The chicken parmigiana was huge and so delicious. The Tartuffo was to die for. I love this place!
amazing! the gluten free cannoli was divine. they accomodated an addtiona to our party with ease, and our reservation was ready on time. Server was great!
45 minute wait for entrees! We had to leave or miss our concert. Disgraceful. Don’t accept reservations you can’t service!
Decent food, good pizza - but for the price it should be extraordinary pizza! I didn’t like the the line to get in, even with a reservation snaked through the restaurant. I felt badly for the customers that had to suffer through all of us crowding near their tables.
