Tratto’s flavorful menu of simple, delicious and shareable dishes coupled with casual, communal-style dining creates a neighborhood bar experience inspired by the Italian tradition of “aperitivo,” or happy hour.
Guests can enjoy playful twists on classic Italian cocktails, boozy Italian sodas, and beer and wine from California and Italy, including a jug of house wine from the taps.
Choose from a wide selection of traditional small-plate antipasti, house-made pastas and pizzas, entrees served family-style, seasonal side dishes, and classic Italian desserts including ice creams, gelatos and sorbets.

We were looking for a new restaurant for brunch and stumbled on Tratto while walking around the area near our hotel. The reserved tables were on the corner by the windows and spaced far enough apart that we were able to converse easily even though the restaurant was full. We ordered the French toast (two very thick slices of brioche browned to perfection), eggs Benedict which were perfectly done, and the breakfast pizza (with Parmesan, thinly sliced speck, and a poached egg). There were so many enticing items on the menu that making a choice was difficult! The food was excellent. The service was attentive without being cloying. The atmosphere was relaxing.
Food was delicious, ambience was nice, good location, price was good. The main problem is that it took quite a while to get hold of our waiter for ordering, paying etc.
I’m very picky about with Italian restaurants I go to and this place exceeded my expectations! I will be back
The food was awesome and I loved the selection of cocktails- very interesting drinks. Can’t beat homemade lemoncello...
Food was great, service was meh.
Great food and service, we love it! We will come again for sure.
We really enjoyed our lunch at Tratto. The food was delicious. We ordered the jug white wine and there wasn’t a drop left. Our waitress was wonderful, noticeably better than the service we to which have become accustomed. Great value for the money.
From the initial greeting until the final parting, everything was excellent! The food, the ambiance, the murals, my cocktail, I loved it all. And you CANNOT beat the prices!! Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Excellence food. We had a Pizza and the Burger. Best Burger since ages.
The service was great.
Booked for the following day right away.
Food was very good. Mushroom pizza was excellent. Salad and cocktails were ok. Pasta was delicious. Service is slow and disorganized at times.
Pretty good food. Service nothing special.
Buttter lettuce salad was outstanding. The dressing, almonds, and avocado was tasty enough to lead the review. The shared roasted fish was memorable.
The doughnut hole desert was a bit rich, but the suck was tasty.
We had a reservation because we were seeing a show, but we probably didn't need one at 5 pm. We were seated right away and our food was very good. The place was also fairly crowded with people enjoying happy hour; you can tell it's a popular place. We'd go here again if we were in the area.
Lovely generous salads, wonderful clean tasting pastas, especially the ravioli; chicken breast is moist and flavorful, window tables are very nice, the Italian wine list is interesting. Appetizers could sub for a light entree. Pleasant attentive waitstaff.
Perfect before theater spot-! Great food and fine service!
This used to be a good place about two years ago. Came back for a birthday. Food was worse ans service terrible
It was a real pleasure to find a very good Italian restaurant so close to the Geary theater. Each of the dishes we ordered was excellently prepared and we appreciated the moderate cost.
We went there based on location - it was walking distance down Taylor to a theater on Golden Gate at Taylor, although the walk is through an area where the sidewalks are filled with the unfortunate homeless. The ambience and furnishings are lacking, and “casual” at best. The service was hit and miss, and the staff morale was obviously low. But surprisingly the food was good, and the prices were reasonable. I had the chopped salad which was very good. Others had trout (good) and pasta (good). All in all, I can recommend it for casual and reasonably priced dining.
Just too noisy but im finding most restaurants are!! Our 2nd time here. Food great. Wait staff attentive!
Creatively presented lox bagel cream cheese capers tomatoes onions and cucumbers. Delicious crusty breakfast potatoes with the best eggs Benedict my husband has eaten this year. Nice urban mural on two walls. We will be back.
Service was terrible. Too many people working, but lots of people standing around on a quiet evening. The server was rude and clearly thinks he's above working as a server. He never stopped by the table to check to see how things tasted. The food was decent, but nothing to write home about. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Food was very mixed; salads and trout with fava beans were good. Chicken cacciatore was so salty we could not eat it. We told the waiter and he said he would give the compliments to the chef. Didn’t know if there was a language barrier so told him again and he shrugged. When he cleared the table he asked if we wanted the chicken wrapped to go and we said no it was too salty to eat. He did nothing about it. The dish was for two and was $40. He should have immediately taken the fish back to the kitchen and offered us something else. Would not return.
Our teen aged grandson chose this restaurant near our hotel. The menu is small, but the execution was delicious!
Their gnocchi with beef ragu was outstanding,as was the trout. The steak was good but not our favorite item. The roasted vegetables were plenty and perfectly done. The homemade sorbet was yummy and the molten chocolate cake with caramel and vanilla knocked it out ofthepark.
Service was excellent!
Waiter’s recommendations for the meal, wine and dessert were spot on. You can sit with a crowd of teammates or just a couple of friends
The restaurant is very trendy with great art on the walls.
Our server was amazing, super friendly and accommodating.
The good from the starters, meatballs so moist and tasty along with the bruschetta. The pizza crust is a very classic crust with great sauce and toppings. A few of us had the strip steak. Super juicy and great flavors.
We ended with a variety of wonderful desserts.
We can’t wait to share this restaurant with other friends soon.
Affordable meal in the heart of the Theater District, near Union Square & Shopping.
Great food, great services, will go again!
Nothing that you couldn't cook at home. Also not really Italian.
We came to Tratto before going to see a nearby comedy show. We didn't have a ton of time but wanted a decent meal and a drink, and man did Tratto deliver. We sat at the bar and the service was fast - really attentive good bartenders. Started with bruschetta - not my favorite to be honest but my partner enjoyed it. I ordered a small plate of fried chicken and he ordered a pasta dish that was delicious. We ended with a molten chocolate cake that was absolutely delicious. Loved the interior design and the wall art, and that the property is on a corner of Geary street with lots of windows to let light in and see a bit of the hustle and bustle going by. We made it right on time to our show - super grateful we tried this place out!
Bad reception, bad service and bad food.....worst restaurant in our 5 days stay in SF.
Eric, Thank you for taking some time to share your feedback. I am surprised to read your remarks and would like to learn more, as this is not the kind of review we are accustomed to receiving. I will reach out to you privately to discuss further. Thank you, Justin
Food was quite tasty. Service was attentive and not intrusive. Sadly the fryer was down the evening we were there and I couldn't try the Italian doughnuts which I had been thinking about all day. Actually, just occurred to me it's good I wasn't craving the fritto misto. It must not have been available that night either.
Authentic Italian food. We loved it because they had a gluten free pasta with their regular sauces. Very nice wait staff, lots of wine options. Overall a good experience.
Quick lunch before 2pm show. Food quality vs. price excellent for the Union Sq area. Had the (peeled) grape pizza which was great, especially the thin crust.
One thing to know is that all the entrees are small plates. This isn’t clear from the menu and the server didn’t tell us. Pasta was good size portion. The food was very tasty.
The restaurant menu is confusing. Is it tapas or Italian family sharing meals? Once you know, the food is great!
A decent choice for pre-theater. Cannelloni has nice homemade noodles and tasty mashed eggplant filling with both tomato and pesto sauces. I would’ve liked it better without a big slab of mozzarella in top. Glad they’re able to omit salami from chopped salad but it was just OK. Red trout pretty good, had no starch item on plate . Free (w Curran tickets) bourbon donut holes with warm caramel sauce were quite good .
Menu used lots of trendy-sounding words, but the food was unsurprising.
Loved it. Totally welcoming and accommodating service, wonderful food and very convenient to the theater. Will definitely return and recommend to others.
This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. We had a great meal and quick service.
Made last minute reservations for Mother's Day and they were very accommodating. Large, open seating area with high ceilings and simple decor. The food was really good for the value and we all agreed that it was delicious.
Service was quite slow. No water served for about 15mins after we sat down. Drinks took another 15mins as did taking out orders. Food was average. Great venue, decor and ambiance. I feel there are a lot of better options in the area.
Excellent food and ample portions. We split the Butter Lettuce Salad 3 ways. My Canneloni was delicious, my wife enjoyed her Flatiron Steak, and it was cooked as she requested, and our son devoured the pasta shells with meat sauce. (Has a funny Italian name on the menu that we had to Google to identify!) Service was prompt and polite. For dessert (unfortunately, they were out of the "Italian Donuts with caramel sauce") so we "settled" for the molten chocolate lava thing and split it 3 ways. It was plenty, and tasty.
Not a "romantic atmosphere" kind of place, but not crazy busy, either. And the prices are quite reasonable, with many entrees under $20. Oh - no bread is served, so you must order the Bruschetta ($10) as an appetizer if you need it.
Delicious meal at this very friendly, bustling restaurant. It's centrally located to ACT, the Curran and the Golden Gate theatres.
We get there earl and enjoyed Happy HOurndeinks and noticed the fabulous lookkngmpizzas most were ordering. We were there for dinner, so next time! Generous portions. We started with focaccia, minestrone, the gem salad then had the spinach tagliatelle and the chicken beast entrees. No room for the fabulous looking desserts. Will return.
We decided to give Tratto another try as they had changed the menu since the last time we were there and had more options. The food was just okay. We will not be going back.
