A spirited, bar-driven restaurant serving rustic Italian fare with modern sensibilities. Tratto means the stroke of a pen or a mark in Italian, nodding to both the neighborhood’s artistic history and the name of The Marker, the boutique hotel next door.

Tratto’s flavorful menu of simple, delicious and shareable dishes coupled with casual, communal-style dining creates a neighborhood bar experience inspired by the Italian tradition of “aperitivo,” or happy hour.

Guests can enjoy playful twists on classic Italian cocktails, boozy Italian sodas, and beer and wine from California and Italy, including a jug of house wine from the taps.

Choose from a wide selection of traditional small-plate antipasti, house-made pastas and pizzas, entrees served family-style, seasonal side dishes, and classic Italian desserts including ice creams, gelatos and sorbets.

Best experience ever. The food was excellent. Sole filet very tasteful. Overall, I recommend to anyone who is in San Francisco to experience the food and ambiance of Tratto.

This was my first visit to Tratto, and it served one of the best Italian meals I’ve had in years. I started off with the Gem Lettuce Caesar Salad. My dinner companion and I asked to share the salad, and the kitchen served it on two plates so we did not have to divide the salad ourselves. This was a nice touch and showed a level of care that set the tone for the entire meal. Although most Caesar salads are served with Romain lettuce, the gem lettuce was a refreshing change. The Caesar dressing was homemade with diced anchovies, fresh olive oil, and garlic. The salad was perfectly seasoned— even one grain of salt more might have been too much, but the chef has a confident pallet, knows how to balance flavors, and cooks with umami cravebility that takes dishes to the limit. I ordered the spaghetti with meatballs, which I know is often viewed as a child’s dish, but I was curious about the meatballs, and so I took a chance to order this cliche Italian American dish. The pasta, marinara, and pork and beef meatballs were handmade and were possibly the best I’ve ever had. The pasta was cooked al dente, and the red sauce was extraordinary. I tasted a perfect blend of roasted garlic, fresh herbs, and puréed homemade sun ripened tomatoes. The meatballs were a delicious combination of Italian fennel sausage and beef. The pasta and meatballs were again perfectly seasoned and had a craveability that I have not experienced in a long time. I ordered a side of broccolini, which was so delicious that I ordered a second serving. They were grilled and had a coating of garlic breadcrumbs. For dessert, I had the Italian donuts that were served with a delicious duo of homemade chocolate and bourbon caramel sauces. Everything I ate at the restaurant was extraordinary. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

Se cercate un ristorante italiano cambiate strada! Menù scarno e americano, sul sito foto di pizze ma poi non le fanno. Il servizio poi per nulla disponibile a venire incontro alle nostre esigenze visto che purtroppo non amiamo l'aglio. Niente di niente! Per educazione non ci siamo alzati e andati via e abbiamo DOVUTO mangiare una fetta di carne (unico piatto senza aglio)senza contorno, ma pagata come da menù che prevedeva patate (con aglio).Questi l'Italia, con il suo calore e ospitalità,non la dovrebbero nemmeno nominare. Prezzi assurdi. Esperienza davvero difficile.

This is our 3rd time eating at Tratto & it was another great experience. Our server was nice & attentive & the food delicious. He asked first if we were on a strict timeline , since this is close to theaters. That was a very nice gesture. The menu was varied .It would be nice to have complimentary bread however. We did order the focaccia and that was good, but only 4 small pieces to an order. It did come with a bowl of olives, but we would have preferred more bread. Our entrees of Chicken Parmesan, Filet of Sole & Buccatini with Clams were all very good. Our server made sure to point out that a 20% tip was included in the check already. We would definitely go back to Tratto & recommend it for a good meal close to The Curran or Feinsteins.

Juan our waiter was outstanding! Very friendly and told us a lot about our dinner options. His dish recommendations were spot on! Food was very tasty. First time here but will be back!

Tratto was a fantastic choice for our pre-show (Golden Gate Theater) dinner! The food was delicious and beautifully plated. The drinks were exceptional (best margarita I’ve ever had!). And our server, George, was friendly, attentive (but not overbearing or invasive), knowledgeable, and super cute. George made excellent suggestions and recommendations and was just the right amount of present and available. An all around excellent experience. Would definitely recommend and will go back!

The food was absolutely delicious! I ordered the Arancini (cacio e pepe) and the herb tagliatelle pasta and couldn't believe how good it was. I loved the atmosphere of the place! Definitely would recommand this restaurant!
