Food was great and the host helped a whole lot. Still not sure whether there was a waiter assigned to our table. Several employees mingled all night at the back - not clear who was a waiter vs busser -??
Luckily the host walked by as he was seating other tables, took our order, got me another glass of wine, etc. Somebody came by to ask about dessert and to provide the check. not sure it if that was the same person both times. either way, the food was yummy. invluding the fennel salad, lamb gnocci and tiramisu. Didn’t see the bill but the b/f said it was too expensive for not a very much food. His main was the chicken breast w polenta, and it did seem much less than my gnocci
All the pasta is made in house and delicious same thing for the desserts. Shaved pear pizza was amazing as well as the butternut squash ravioli.
Stefan the waiter was outstanding. We had dinner than he found us a spot for the live jazz
Loveeee! This place is incredible. Come for all of the cozy feelings and yummy food!
Food was great! Service was great! Value was great! Wished they had more of a selection of wines by the glass, especially for an Italian restaurant.
Picked Tratto for its proximity to an event and was pleasantly surprised by how nice the bartenders were and how good the food was. Will definitely return.
Nice place for a meal with tasty food, great service and relaxed atmosphere. Will return again.
Location in Theater District is great. Menu has good variation and wine list is solid.
Service was excellent and prices are very reasonable for SF dining.
One of the best truffle pizzas I’ve ever had! Will be back.
Went here with my husband for dinner and every single dish we got was on point. The meatballs and cauliflower appetizers were perfect and we each ordered the ravioli special with some sort of artichoke and lemon zest sauce and it was amazing. Light and flavorful. Highly recommend this place, just make sure you get a reservation because the walk-in wait is ridiculous. Oh, and request a table away from the door. It’s cold out there.
Delicious pasta in a great atmosphere. This was our one "fancy" dinner (we're young) while in San Fransisco and it was pretty amazing. The warm olives were delightful, both pasta dishes we ordered were just perfect and the mousse torte was out of this world (in fact, my only regret was we also ordered a tiramisu and if I could go back we would have ordered two tortes).
Found this place last minute and we are so glad we went! Ambiance was relaxed and elegant without being pretentious. We ordered some fantastic cocktails followed by some great food. Many pastas are made in house and the gnocchi was out of this world. Value for the food was hard to beat and GET DESSERT! The Italian donuts were amazing and worth a trip just for them.
In San Fran on vacay. Chose this for dinner our first night in. The tight seating left me a bit closterphobic but the hostess had no issue moving us to a better table. The service was outstanding, the food came out fast and hot and we truly enjoyed our meal. It's a bit noisy and tight but worth it!
Very loud and a limited brunch menu on the weekends. The service was good.
Food was nice, good kids menu. The ambiance was very cozy and inviting. Our server seemed annoyed we were there and pretty snooty. I had asked her what was the rapini ragu. She said, “Ragu is a sauce.” I said I knew what ragu was- but what was the rapini- a red, meat, white, cream, or whatever. She had a very difficult time explaining what it was so I got the feeling she wasn’t sure. Other than that, the meal was good, the vibe was nice and the experience was overall pretty good.
The service was good but the menu selection was only four entries. Not to recommend for a special occasion. The place is also very noisy. Impossible to have a conversation.
The food was downright bad. Lasagna was tiny, steak was chewy, the artichoke heart was impossible to eat, the asparagus was not seasoned.
My only negatives were it was noisy and tables were tiny. The service was so good we felt a little rushed initially. Very convenient for theatre and parking. Pasta was delicious.
Food was good but noise level too, too high. A relief for our ears to leave!
Best calamari we’ve had but one entree of 4 was so over salted I found it inedible. We should have sent it back but we’re catching a play
Restaurant week in SF on a Friday and no difficulty or hesitation to serve a party of one. Food was good; cocktail was excellent; service was friendly and attentive. Comfortable atmosphere. Will return.
We went for a meal before the theater. Food was very good. "Restaurant Week" fixed price menu was excellent but we got there a little late to really enjoy it. The place was crowded and it seemed like there was only one person in charge of serving. We really liked the food and server (used to enjoy the Grand Cafe) but it is REALLY LOUD. Possibly too loud for a return visit. Maybe lunch.
My cousin and I had a lovely time at Tratto. We managed to have a great light meal. As a vegetarian who doesn't eat eggs, we appreciated how accommodating the waiter was and that we didn't have to resort to risotto for an enjoyable meal. The flavors were delicious and we greatly enjoyed the food.
I am disappointed with the design and ambiance of the restaurant. It looked and felt much more comfortable and pleasant with the previous design when it was Grand Cafe. Now it looks very basic and simple.
The other problem was with the service. We made reservations for 5 people and I indicated in advance that it was my wife's B-day and asked for a small cake with one candle. When we arrived right on time, there was no place prepared for us and they had to scramble to put some tables together in front of us standing there. There was no cake and no Happy B-day song for my wife at all, so we left disappointed.
Overall good value, great cocktail, BTG list and nibbles/snacks. We had several appertivos, snacked, and appetizers. Only issue was we ordered a bottle of wine with our entres and by the time the wine came out, we had already finished our meal. Really didn't want the bottle of wine and the server didn't quite got it when I sent it back. Would have been nice to have a glass of wine with our entres.
The pasta was delicious. Great kids menu. The place is very noisy though.
Came here (again) for dinner and breakfast the next morning. Their breakfast is as good as their dinner! We had Andrea as our dinner server. She’s great! Breakfast was more quiet, but everyone is nice and helpful. Love it here!
Dinner date for NYE, food was good. Service was terrible, our waitress would constantly forget to give us a bunch of things that she said she would get right away. It wasn’t that busy in there so I don’t know what was going on with her. She was sort of rude in the beginning when I asked her what was good on the menu comparing 2 foods and all she did was look at me like I’m dumb and asked me to look at the menu again, really couldn’t stand her. She shouldn’t be working in customer service at all with that attitude.
New Years Eve dinner before the symphony. Our server, Andrea, was helpful and prompt, when we told her our plans. The food is fresh and delicious. They have old Italian movies screening in the bar area, which gives one something to look at if they are alone. The place has people watching windows and it's not cramped when you walk through the room to go to the bathroom. We love it here!
Amazing experience! The food was great, the ambiance was great, and our waiter was great. Want to go back tonight!!
Great food, priced well.
Love this restaurant!
Fine for our group of 8 - 4 adults and 4 teens. Food was good, but on the expensive side. I’d go back.
It was very enjoyable.
Very busy on Christmas Eve. Service was great and so was the food.
Two notes to be aware of, first this restaurant is located inside the Hotel Marker. Second, the dining room does not open until 5 p.m.. The decor and ambience are fun, the hotel is actually quite nice, so overall the experience is kind of interesting. The food was very good, with a nice variety of Italian dishes including Pizza, Pasta, and all the usual items. Service was solid, they do not rush you but are attentive enough that you don't feel ignored. Prices are about what you would expect from a good Italian restaurant in San Francisco. One note for future reference, their house red wine was outstanding. Not sure what it was, but if they use the same one consistently I can highly recommend it! Over all a nice meal if you are looking for something in that area of the city without breaking the bank.
Well prepared modern Italian cuisine. The music was a little loud for easy conversation. They turned it down eventually. Attractive decor. Enthusiastic service. Deftly made cocktails. Fine dining for before or after theater.
My daughters and me enjoyed a lovely dinner and drinks while we visited Union Square the day before Christmas Eve and finished up on some last minute shopping. Food was good and played nicely. If you want a side dish, you'll have to order it as it does not come with the entree. We ordered fresh vegetables and shared the side. A little noisy on that night with the holiday rush so maybe it's not as noisy on other nights. That would be a huge plus!
We went to Tratto after the theater. We were seated promptly in the back of the restaurant which was much quieter than the main dining room. The butternut squash ravioli and lamb gnocchi was very good as was the mushroom pizza. We ordered a burger and it was under cooked. Overall, a very positive experience with great service.
Service was superb. WE had the tasting menu, which was a bargain, but the first 3 dishes were meh. The whole roasted trout and lobster risotto and dessert made up for it though.
Cute spot a bit away from the noise of Union Square.
It’s just an okay place. Typically hotel restaurant food and atmosphere. I wouldnt recommend it.
Food okay, nothing good to say about it. Desert olive cake was dry as a bone. Steak okay, mussels okay, calamari decent.
