A spirited, bar-driven restaurant serving rustic Italian fare with modern sensibilities. Tratto means the stroke of a pen or a mark in Italian, nodding to both the neighborhood’s artistic history and the name of The Marker, the boutique hotel next door.

Tratto’s flavorful menu of simple, delicious and shareable dishes coupled with casual, communal-style dining creates a neighborhood bar experience inspired by the Italian tradition of “aperitivo,” or happy hour.

Guests can enjoy playful twists on classic Italian cocktails, boozy Italian sodas, and beer and wine from California and Italy, including a jug of house wine from the taps.

This is a very convenient location to Union Square and to American Conservatory Theater (ACT). Lovely room and atmosphere. A menu of pizza, pasta, and meat entrees, as well as excellent appetizers and salads offered. We both enjoyed starters of focaccia and faro/arugula salad. My husband had the eggplant cannelloni, and I had the spaghetti with meatballs. The meatballs were delicious, and the spaghetti tasted like the homemade pasta I've eaten in Italy. Was very pleased with the food, service, and atmosphere.

We had a wonderful meal with wonderful service. The food was great. We had incredible salads, my arugula salad, and the Parmesan crisp bowl was incredible. My partner loved her wedge salad, and our pasta dishes were wonderful. I got the gnocchi of the day, which was terrific! Definitely recommend and such a convenient spot.

Nice hotel restaurant, the fact that the wine glasses were thin stemmed and rimmed says a restaurant is presenting a higher image and fortunately the food matches the presentation. Sits right in the middle of US restaurant types, not basic burger and sports bar atmosphere and prices, but not a high end steakhouse with prices to match - it was nice quality and mid priced food.

Warm greeting on arrival, restaurant busy but not crowded with good atmosphere. Waiter attentive. Both of us had Pizza’s which came with crisp bases and tasty pepperoni with a chilli sauce for me and margarita for my wife with great tomato sauce base, basil and mozzarella. Good red wine too.

The food here is always very good; the staff are super polite; the host is chill. A very good place for dinner in the Union Square area. Highly recommended for the pre or post theatre crowd.
