Cutest restaurant in town
We made reservations late and were pleasantly surprised to get a reservation for 5:15. The ambiance was wonderful and our waitress was fantastic!! I honestly have no real complaints as we would go there again and again and again!
The one MINOR (issue, if you even want to call it that) was the food could have been a bit hotter. It wasn’t cold by any stretch of the imagination, but is was lukewarm. Most importantly, the soup.
But, we truly had a relaxing, beautiful, memorable evening and dinner. Also, loved the piano player!!!! THANK YOU for it all!!!!!
Went for the breakfast buffet expecting high quality food and perhaps some traditional Austrian breakfast options but found neither. The service was…fine. The setting, gorgeous. But the food was fabulously mediocre and not at all what I imagined a resort of this ilk would offer. Skip it and find something better in town.
The food was very good. The snietzel was golden brown, crispy and flavorful. The sausage flatbread was crunchy with a good blend of flavors. The dunkel beer was rich and malty.
Great food, made with care. Staff was very good as well.
The bratwurst dinner served with maple mustard was delicious, and GF. The warm spinach dip w/ tortilla chips was very good.
Food is very good. Nice atmosphere and view from the dining room.
This spot is all ambiance. The food quality is solidly mediocre but it’s worth a trip to check out the lodge for kitsch factor. The waitstaff was lovely and the piano player was a fun throwback. I’m glad I went, but don’t expect anything other than a mediocre meal in fun surroundings.
Great meal of good quality and tasty in a relaxed and beautiful siituation.
So fortunate to be able to celebrate the holiday season with Family in such a wonderful place. Excellent food and service.
Everything was ok. The decor seemed outdated. It looks like it’s from the late 90s. And we thought the menu choices were limited. We didn’t realize there was a buffet which is not appealing during Covid. We were expecting a lot more considering the reputation and price.
Great experience. Great food. Nice piano music. Great cocktails.
Great views of the mountain tains and the place was beautifully decorated with many Christmas trees.
Food was excellent! We had a group of 8 and there were kids, they did a great job with us all.
If you are a Sound of Music fan - this Lodge is a must do - even if you are not and just want a feel for old Europe in the US - this place is for you. Take a step back in time and across the pond by entering this timeless restaurant and lodge. We thought we were coming for breakfast and could order from the menu - but it was a buffet because it was New Years Eve - eh OK was our first thought - I was really there just to be where the von Trapp family made their home in America - boy were we pleasantly surprised by the Yummy but Simple brunch that was served. I will be back for dinner next time I am in the area - can't wait to see how yummy that will be. Take time before or after your meal to stroll the halls of the lodge to learn the history behind this family that made their classic American Dream come true. Also do not miss out on the Brewery - while the pretzels don't rival what you get in the true old country - their home brewed beer is some of the best we have ever tasted and they offer tasting sizes so you can try them all and still drive home. THANK YOU von Trapp family for opening up your home and creating this classic destination vacation spot for families and visitors of all kinds - and for bringing the spirit of the Edelweiss to the Northeast US.
Dining midst a pandemic is tough for restaurants- they did this well. Super waiter with humor, food good but too much pork and bacon in everything limits choices. Good ambience
We had an excellent meal on our last night of vacation. Glad we chose this restaurant. The Lodge is beautiful. You must also stop at the Von Trappe Brewery down the road if you have time.
Great food food value
Our first time in Vermont and the Trapp Family Lodge was warm and inviting. We did a wine tasting and then Went to dinner all with our 8 month old. Wonderful place with a great staff. The wiener schnitzel was fantastic!
Food was delicious a little pricey but in line with what you expect at Stowe. Quiet family atmosphere. We would eat there again.
Very poor service. We were sat at a table with nothing. No one came to our table. We waited 20-25 min and no one acknowledged us. Another table was sat and waitress came out brought them water and took their order. She did not wait on any other table. She walked away. Several tables and bar patrons in there with no service. When we were walking out we told the waitress we were leaving because no one came over to us and she just said ok.
Service was very good and food arrived quickly. Pretzels and beer cheese sauce was the best part of our meal. Dark beer was excellent. We were seated by fireplace as requested which was cozy. Dining room furniture felt very 1970’s. Views are fabulous. Lots of families with young children so noise level a little high.
Excellent curry! The dinner rolls and butter taste homemade.
Booked on line 2pm dinner. Looked at menu online, which had a good variety. However, when we arrived we were given only a sandwich and salad menu. When I showed them we booked the reservation date and time after reviewing menu. They said it was a mistake and that menu is not served till evening. We left. Additionally, we were seated in the bar area and not the dining room as shown on line
We 5 arrived 12:45 for lunch. Service was very slow and disorganized. 4 of the five received our meal about 15 min prior to the last person. The food was unremarkable and didn’t taste authentic, except the sausage, which was tasty. We had to repeat requests for condiments. The restaurant has a good ambience and is conveniently located in the lodge but I would not recommend.
We booked for main dining room and when we arrived only the lounge was open. Everything was fine but nothing special which we were hoping for a more unique experience. I wouldn’t go out of my way for the lounge food/experience.
We had lunch reservations. Food and service was excellent
We always enjoy going to the Trapp Family Lodge while visiting Stowe. We make a pilgrimage to the Dining Room and the Bier Hall. Very different vibes but both very enjoyable. The Dining Room feels very authentic and family oriented. The Christmas ambience is lovely. The food is very good and true to their Austrian heritage.
The service is warm and friendly. Just what we were looking for on Dec 26. Would always go back. It is a very special place that has retained its character.
Very good food, excellent service — Amanda is a gem.
Family was visiting for Christmas and we went for a sleigh ride at the lodge, then lunch afterward. It was the bartender’s first day and she didn’t know how to make the margarita that was on the menu. Two people in our party asked for Long Island Iced teas and she made them wrong. Then the waiter gave the alcoholic drink to the one person in our party that doesn’t touch alcohol. The waiter then proceeded to give the wrong drinks to just about everyone else at the table. Same with the food. Everyone’s food came out but mine. The food was excellent.
Excellent. Thanksgiving and Christmas are an annual tradition for us.
Dining Reservation indicated a discount if staying at lodge. No discount applied-“that is not given during Christmas week.
Then a 20% gratuity was auto added at meal the day after Christmas. Upon questioning the waiter, he said his manager told wait staff they had to do that during the week following Christmas. Again, no indication of this when I made reservations.
Good food but very inconsistent service. One server told us they have no specials but then rattled off a list of specials to the neighboring table. Beautiful views and overall good experience.
Great place to eat—view, lodge setting, piano, service. Food was not especially memorable—better on menu than on plate.
Entire meal was delicious- shrimp appetizer was tasty, petite filet was tender and flavorful and apple strudel was huge and amazing. Loved the live piano.
Reservations and table request were honored. Everyone at our table ordered the same meal and all were out to us at the same time. The food was very good and hot.
The only problem we had was we asked the waiter to go to the next able to ask the man to stop talking on his cell phone with the speaker on. The waiter said he would handle it. We watched and he never did. My son had to go over to the table and ask the man to stop, which he did. The wine selections were very good.
My parents were celebrating their anniversary while we were vacationing in Vermont as a family. The first movie they ever watched together was the Sound of Music, so visiting the Trapp Family Lodge was doubly special for them. Each of our meals was excellent and the service was relaxed, friendly and warm. The environment was comfortable and we had a nice seat by the fire; the ambience may have been improved if we could see more of the gorgeous Mountain View out the large windows. Overall, our experience was fantastic!
Charming and beautifully decorated. Food was delicious service excellent
Desert a bit pricey for portion.
Our server set up a beautiful round table in the corner for us to enjoy our last morning breakfast. The food was fresh and delicious and our experience there could not have been better! Our entire stay was blessed by each and every encounter with any staff person we met! The whole atmosphere there was just perfect. Being up there at the Lodge felt holy and sacred and peaceful. Thank you for a wonderful stay making beautiful memories with our family.
How amazing to dine at the Lodge! Food was absolutely delicious! Server was wonderful and accomodating! We loved everything....thank you for helping us make beautiful memories with our family!
Breakfast table was great. Don’t miss the oatmeal and toppings or the locks table.
