Trapp Family Lodge Dining Room
Dinner was Lukewarm. Food definitely not as good as it was in previous years. Some of The breakfast buffet choices were also lukewarm!
Food was good, service adequate but not outstanding.
Our waiter was very surly, have the impression that he didn't want to be there. Service was very slow, food was fair to average. Overpriced. The Apple strudel was very tasty.
We really enjoyed this restaurant. The server was attentive, the ambience was amazing and the food was delish. Will have this establishment on my list as a must return to destination.
Wonderful meals for all 4 of us and a treat to be in this special place with so much history!
Portions were small with very little flavor/seasoning, nothing special. My father-in-law did enjoy his trout entree, he likes more bland foods.
Everything was wonderful: the dining room has an outstanding view of the mountains, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The wait staff was knowledgeable and helpful and made great recommendations. Our dinners were absolutely delicious; we had the Chicken Ballotine and the Hanger Steak and both were incredibly tender, cooked to perfection and amazingly flavorful. This was our first visit to the Trapp Lodge, and we can't wait to go back. Oh, and a word to the wise: have the apple streudel . Seriously. I'm not kidding. It's reason for living.
The Lodge Dining room had a nice ambiance and the service was good. However, the food was just okay. We had Weiner Schnitzel and trout. Both were bland- such a disappointment.
Limited menu; very slow service. Food was extremely salty.
Fantastic experience in a wonderful resort. The choice and quality of the food was exceptional.
We stayed at the Trapp Family Lodge for two nights. Everything about our stay at the Lodge was fabulous EXCEPT for our dinner there. It was a special occasion dinner for my wife. I made note of it in the reservation made on Open Table and saw that the maitre d had the same note on the reservation when he pulled it up on his iPad just prior to seating us. There were many open tables in the restaurant at the time but he proceeded to sit us next to the server’s station. This was without question the noisiest spot in the entire restaurant. We had to endure loud clinks and clangs as waitstaff made no effort to minimize the noise made from stacking dirty dishes in trays. We felt more like we were in a busy cafeteria or diner. The restaurant has “fine dining” prices which is fine. My wife and I frequent Manhattan restaurants with similar pricing. However, there was nothing else that resembled “fine dining” aside from the price. The waitstaff were disengaged and acted as though they had somewhere else they preferred to be. Our waiter seem ill prepared to answer questions about the menu. We ordered crab bisque as an appetizer. It was gelatinous and didn’t resemble a bisque in any manner. It had a faint taste of crab and no discernible trace of crab meat. It was more like a slimy, condensed version of a vegetable beef broth. I was excited about the entree I ordered. However, soon after it arrived I realized the steak was over cooked, the wild mushrooms were undercooked, and the heirloom carrots were mushy. The demi-glacé was extremely salty. The ideas behind the meal seemed well planned, but the execution was a failure. The people in this restaurant would benefit greatly from a visit to a Daniel Boulud or Thomas Keller owned restaurant to see all of the little details that are crucial to a true fine dining experience.
Everything was great but the person who was singing in the bar with the piano was not very good. Fortunately we couldn't hear her that well but last time there, we heard a harp playing which added to the ambiance, not distracted from it.
My main course of Wiener Schnitzel vom Schwein (Pan Fried Breaded Pork Loin Cutlet, Spatzle, Red Cabbage, Dill Cucumber Salad, Fresh Lemon, Lingonberry Jam} was excellent. My soup had a slight bite to it, unexpected for Crab Bisque. My dessert of Linzertorte (Spiced Walnut Crust, Raspberry - Currant Preserve) also was delicious. The view is always spectacular, the flowers beautiful, and the grounds well kept. The service was prompt and the wait staff courteous.
Limited menu but excellent service. We both ordered the steak special. While the steaks were both cooked to order and had a good flavor the mashed potatoes were bland and I thought they had skimped on the portion. If we had looked at the menu prior to booking the table we would not have gone as the fare was not our normal.
Food was over priced and just ok. We left hungry with a bill of $180 for 3 adults and 1 child (mac and cheese). Better of trying some of the restaurants off site.
For starters the mains menu was not European contrary to what they claim. One of the 6 dishes is an Austrian dish but the rest are not. The vegetable curry (the only vegetarian option) was very basic and bland. The lamb was good overall but was sadly cooked to well done and not medium rare like ordered. Overall the ambiance seems stuck in the early 90s and needs to be updated. Great view!! Lots of potential!! Not quite there yet though.
Nice experience for a special occasion. Given a table for two with a lovely view. Service was impeccable, Fox was very good, portion was very good, price was high, which was expected because of the overall setting. Enjoyed the piano bar after dinner, which highlighted a nice experience.
Being tourists, we really wanted to try the place. Food was very nicely prepared. No complaints whatsoever. Food was also tasty; I even got the strudel which I haven’t had in decades.
Our experience was very interesting. The server (do not want to mention his name here but the initial is S) seems to provide different services based on the customers. I am not sure whether it was because we are Asian, he did not mention the daily special menu or the adding 2 dollar to extra 6 oz steak to us. (PS: we ordered the regular steak and he said nothing to us.) When I overheard he talking about these specials to our neighbor table with all Americans, I was very upset. Possibly the worst thing to happen during a vacation. I do not want to think this was discrimination but what can I say? I reconfirmed his attitude by observing him doing exactly the same thing to another table of Asian guests next to us. I tried all my best not to argue with him, worrying it might ruin the ambiance to the whole restaurant.
After eating, the server did ask whether we have any question on visiting the property. He was nice and I appreciated it. But I will never forget the bad dining experience that I ever had in US.
Outstanding! My wife and I had dinner and breakfast. We will be back at some point. Our entire visit was perfect. Bob, the recreation director was A+ on three tours we took.
I am sorry we had to leave.
The setting was beautiful, and that’s why I’m giving it 3 stars. The dining room was nice but a little dated. My husband and I were really looking forward to the Wiener schnitzel. We were surprised that it was made with pork. For the price ($29), I think they could have sprung for veal. The breading on the schnitzel was nicely done. The portion of spaetzle was very small. Unfortunately, we both found hairs in our spaetzle (gross). We couldn’t stomach dessert after that and both left feeling hungry. For that reason, we probably won’t be back.
Wonderful experience from start to finish. Beautiful grounds. Elegant dinning room. Our waiter Christian was very professional and attentive. The food was fantastic. I would highly recommend the restaurant as well as the Lodge to my friends and family!
Most amazing food ever!! Worth the money and experience of tasting Austrian style food!!
After visiting Salzburg, Austria, it was fun to visit the Trapp Family Lodge for dinner in the Main Dining Room. Our table could have had a better view, but was OK. We had the traditional dinner of Wiener Schnitzel that was very good. Our server was helpful, but definitely seemed to pay more attention to other diners than us... two women. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
Sound of Music is a very special move for my mom and me. I drove her up here from Boston for dinner and she absolutely loved it. Everyone was very friendly, our server was lovely, food was tasty and had many gluten free options available.
We found the quality of the food to be inexcusable for the price range. The food was poorly cooked and had no flavor. We are extremely disappointed with our experience.
On the other hand, our waiter and the staff we’re very welcoming and nice.
Amazing views! Gluten friendly. Excellent service, waiter was very knowledgeable and personable. It was a very enjoyable experience.
My mother ordered the duck breast it was very to salty. For $35 it should’ve been excellent. I ordered the osso bucco it too was salty for $38 it was definitely not worth it. The duck breast needs to be re-thought all together and was not really worth the time cooking it. The osso bucco perhaps is worth $20.
The Island Cabernet was excellent
The apple strudel was good but definitely not excellent
The service was good but a little slow.
The view from our table was excellent.
Our tab was $140 including tip I do feel like I wasted my money .
The setting was delightful with a table next to the windows. Few folks were dining as as it was between seasons. Thus, it was pleasantly quiet. Service was professional and attentive.; delivery of courses was timely. We both had the wiener schnitzel which was perfectly prepared - not overcooked.
Entire dining experiences -- 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners -- were excellent!
We had a lovely meal with an amazing view of the mountains. Loved the Austrian dinner options and dessert. Will come back.
Food was good and place is lovely. The staff was nice and worked hard. They seemed to be short staffed.
The dinner was very good, along with the service. We were here about two years ago and both of us thought the dinner menu was a little limited. This time we were very happy to see a new menu with a little more selection.
The waiter was very knowledgeable about the Trapp family. We found it all very interesting. The food was prepared nicely and was delicious. We were there on a Sunday and it was empty
Creative, delicious meal! Both the appetizers and entrees.
Old charm, coupled with a great service staff, an excellent wine list and a menu with a nice variety of selections. Relaxing environment with beautiful views of the mountains.
Great food and impeccable service.
Beautiful settings with mountain view. Quiet atmosphere. Excellent fresh farm to table food.
Fabulous food in a beautiful setting! Loved it!! Great for a special occasion.
