We were seated in the lobby, no ambiance, ugly even. The food was mediocre, was expecting more from a Mina project.
Flavors were good in half of the dishes. The tempura mushrooms were tasteless. The chicken in the lemongrass chicken sandwich was flabby, but the fries were crispy and good.
Won’t go back.
Food was phenomenal. Standouts were pineapple butterfish, shrimp with coconut rice, and grilled octopus. The restaurant is in an open area, making it extremely loud. Drink were also awesome. My only negative is service was painfully slow. We ordered drinks and apps, waited a LONG TIME, and then the server came over to take our entree order before any drinks had arrived. I ordered a beer when dinner came, and it didn’t come til after we’d finished our food. I think they are still working out the kinks, but the food alone would bring me back. I plan to sit at the bar next time. The bar is enclosed and looks more comfortable than the dining room. And drinks will come quicker!
We went here to celebrate a birthday. They greeted us with a card signed by staff and gave us a complimentary dessert with a candle. The service was great!
The food is very high-quality Hawaiian inspired cuisine, done very well. The atmosphere, being in the lobby of a Salesforce office building is strange, at best. But overall, the service was good and food was excellent. A very solid option and not extremely expensive (for the market). Well done and I would return.
The location is very unexpected as it’s located on the mezzanine of an office building. The dining area is located outside on the mezzanine and the bar is located in an enclosed area. So the ambience was not one that I could give a high rating too. However, being from Hawaii, I was very pleasantly surprised by how excellent the ahi poke was.The Unagi and butterfish arancini though being small bites were very tasty and I would order it again if I go back. As with the poke bowl. I’m a real stickler for raw fish being fresh and they ahi was very fresh. But the highlight of the night was the Miso butterfish. It was one of the best butterfish I have ever tasted. Definitely choose this. My friend and I shared and the food was substantial enough for 2. Only thing I could not recommend is the lumpia. The wrap was not flaky and more like a wonton wrapper. Otherwise, I would go back.
We had a wonderful time and the food was quite good. We sat inside the bar area which had a private Sales Force event. Noise level was on par for a fun night with close coworkers. If talking business, recommend sitting outside the bar.
Service was excellent.
The food was amazing!
Butter fish was great. Service was phenomenal!
Food is amazing but the portion size can be very small depending on which meal you order within the mains! Ambiance and service were excellent! Recommend this place - 4 star
Slightly odd that the crispy fish sandwich was served with wet slaw. It demanded we eat it quickly ahead of the appetizers once the sandwich was served.
Amazing Restaurant. Who knew it was there? Amazing food and great service! What a way to end a Saturday night! The butterfish is out of this world - in fact there was nothing that we tried that we did not like. The coconut desert is to die for! Will definitely return to try more. Way to Go Michael Mina and Team at Trailblazer!
Delicious interpretation of Hawaiian food. Wonderful poki. Miso butterfish was outstanding.
Had a great experience for a group of 8. Initial service was slow - drink order arrived after appetizer order. Dessert was awesome! We tried them all!
I took my partner there for his birthday to surprise him with tickets to Hawaii. I wanted it to be themed and thought this would be a great place to start. We were seated at our table and he was given a birthday card signed by members of the staff wishing him a happy birthday!. That was an amazing and thoughtful touch.
Our server Brianna was very helpful with recommendations for all the dishes we ordered. I tried the huli huli chicken which was delicious, my partner had the pot roast. Both really flavorful and descent portions. The dessert was chocolate cake with gold leaf and lilikoi sorbet. Amazing. I had two cocktails the Snow Goddess which was just ok and the Lilikoi Old Fashion which was quite delicious. The only part of the experience that I felt was underwhelming was the space itself. Located in the lobby of Salesforce East, it's cold and bare. And an awful white light above the elevator. I would have put a softer hue like a light purple or green. It's a glaring white. The place does not feel intimate or warm at all. However, overall, a great meal.
Staff had difficulty with a list provided with food allergies. Food was over salted, more so than normal in my experience and more typical of a lower tier restaurant. We didn’t have any alcohol and our meal was still $170 for two people (before tip) who ordered dishes “as recommended”.
Slow service. Brought the wrong items out. Overpriced.
The food was good, but the place was noisy and a bit cold, as it is in the lobby of a tall building and it is all open. I would also say that it is a bit overpriced.
Trailblazer has quickly become One of my favorite dining spot in the financial district. The food is delicious and the servIce exceptional
The service & staff are all friendly and attentive.
This is definitely a regular dining place for me.
Mahalo nui loa.
Food & service were excellent. Portions are very small and very expensive. Butterfish & short ribs were exceptional.
My expectations weren't high even though I knew Trailblazer has had great reviews - after all, I wondered, what was a non-Hawai'ian going to do with local food? I had the prix-fixe lunch ($37/3 courses with choices for each course). First of all, it's not just ethnic Hawai'ian good but fusion of all the great local cuisines (Korean, Japanese, Chinese, etc). I had the crab-cucumber sunomono (lots of crab!), short rib "pot roast" which included lotus root (yum) in a nice teriyaki sauce and the macadamia choc chip cookies - all ono! Tr the non-alcoholic drinks - the coconut-lime one is maika'i no!
Restaurant is located on the second floor of Salesforce Building. Spacious dining room is divided into two sections with a Hawaiian theme. The bar is located to the right as you entered...a much dimmer area. We chose to sit in the bright patio section by the windows facing the busy street. Right away we saw the special prix fix lunch menu of the day which consists of three courses for $35 which is perfect for our budget and our stomach. I chose the Unagi and Butterfish Arancini with Nori Tsukudani, Kabayaki Mustard as my first dish, which was scrumptious. The arancini comes in three rice balls. It was warm, crispy and tasty. Second dish was the entrée of Short Rib Pot Roast with Lotus Root, Salisfy, Nitsuke, Black Truffle Soy. It was well-seasoned, tender and succulent. The fried lotus root gives the dish an extra crunch. I especially enjoyed the variety of braised root vegetables that were placed underneath the pot roast which gave balance. Dessert dish was the Strawberry Hibiscus Shave Ice with Haupia Tapioca, Mochi Ice Cream, Coconut Sorbet. It was very colorful and well presented in a clear pedestal dessert glass...a perfect choice. Very refreshing, delectable, delicious and an excellent way to close a meal. This prix fix three courses were more than enough food for us. We still had leftovers to take home. Service was wonderful, attentive and efficient. Waiter was friendly and knowledgeable.
The appetizers and sides were great. The entree’s were not as good. Both of the fish dishes we got were overcooked.
Great food and even tastier desserts with hawaiian flavors.
The food was very good, although pricey. The bill for 2 people came to $170 plus tax, mainly because of the drinks. $25 for a Chardonnay is way too expensive. Also, the server was not very attentive to us despite the fact that the restaurant was not that crowded for lunch. For the prices we are paying, we expect better service.
Food was not amazing but a bit pricey. I liked the vibe though!
Waiter, Albert and all of the staff were outstanding.a couple of dishes were solid (unagi arancini and miso butterfish), a couple of dishes whiffed (sauce on huli huli chicken was extremely over salted, dessert very forgettable). Will give it another try bc of spectacular service.
Had my mom's 77th birthday celebration on the Trailblazer Tavern and it was an evening to remember. The Hawiian kitschy cocktails were delicious. The Ahi Poke Nachos were fresh as fresh can be and absolutely delicious. Our dinner was amazing. The Maine Lobster and Red Abalone, Grill Octopus, Moco Loco and the Lua Pork (and impressive table side presentation) were outstanding. The birthday card awaiting my mom, and signed by the staff, was a nice touch.
After just one visit, Trailblazer Tavern is already one of my favorite restaurants in SF! The service was impeccable and the food was AMAZNG! Every dish was not only prepared wonderfully, but the presentation was beautiful. We love Hawaii and were pleased that, although it was fusion, the foundation of each dish was reflective of Hawaiian fare. I've recommended it and have already given a gift certificate to a friend.
Super expensive meals are 30+. Main bartender and hostess are quite rude. Overall, wouldn’t come again unless its only for happy hour with 1-2 friends.
Practically perfect in every way. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, drinks, and desserts.
It was great. Service was a little slow.
A bit over priced. The surroundings are pleasant. The service was great. It's like the Slanted Door, but the food isn't as tasty and desserts were lacking
The restaurant is great. The only thing I can say, is knowledge about where to park on the website would be helpful. 45+ minutes to find parking when one is "clueless." Thank you for an outstanding meal!
Butterfish was delicious. Excellent service.
Salesforce backpackers, rude, self centered. But, the best waitstaff, sommelier, general manager and staff we’ve ever seen.
Then the food — spectacular. Go for the food and the staff. Not to be missed. Just no backpack or attitude.
I went with my friend for her birthday. Once we were seated, she was handed a nice birthday card signed by the staff and later received a delicious dessert. Definitely the highlight of our meal. The cocktails are creative and good...but you can get better tiki cocktails at other places in SF. We shared the fried chicken (not your usual fried chicken) that’s really make your own lettuce wraps, poke nachos (best of all the food) and the lau lau pork which is presented nicely, but make sure you order a side to go with it because it really is just a big plate of meat. I’m not rushing to go back, but we did enjoy our time there.
Excellent place to celebrate any event. Wait staff is excellent, food was delicious and presentation was very good. The ahi nachos are a must have starter. Very good selection of Hawaiian beers.
love their spam musubi (with quail egg on top). Don't worry it's not spam from a can. I actually asked this to the server, they make their own luncheon meat.
