Traffic Jam & Snug
Great place to catch up with friends. Nice atmosphere.
Surprisingly slow for 6:30 on a Friday, so the noise level was very minimal. The food here is absolutely EXQUISITE! Most of the menu consists of non-standard twists on standard dishes, and each twist more brilliant than the last. The beer selection is impressive and the house brews rank right up there with most of the good craft beers I've had. The service was very casual and friendly, as well as attentive and quick.
This prices are a bit on the high side (at least for dinner), so it's not an every day place to go, but the atmosphere is casual enough that it makes for a great "date night" destination or a place for visitors to sample real Detroit flavor.
The service was terrible. The food was more than lacking. The bathrooms were filthy. Overall it was a very disappointing experience.
Was so excited to come to traffic jam. Haven’t been in many years. Brought my kids for the nostalgia. They are 20 and 16. I can’t tell you how disappointed I was. Food was terrible. Mac and cheese was cold and very bland. Told waiter he took it back and brought it back again. It was the same. Fish and chips were ok. But the rest was terrible. Should have left the memories in the past
Great place to eat, brought friends there from Toronto and Ottawa and they loved it.
Our server was not knowledgeable about drinks. Asked for a lemon martini and he said we couldn’t get that. It took a very long time- at least 30 + mins to receive our meals, yet only 2 of the 3 came out. The 3rd came about 5 min later. I witnessed our waiter swiping his hair out of his face often and adjusting his male body parts as he’d walk away. This was very unappetizing. I believe that some staff instruction about hygiene is in order- I will not return due to what I witnessed. I may be biased, as I am a nurse and am sensitive to hygiene issues.
There were seven of us in the small room which was definitely more quiet than the rest of the restaurant.
It took almost an hour from ordering to receiving our food. I feel this is a kitchen problem and not that of our server.
Overall the food was good but the portion served of Chicken Marsala was very skimpy. It was small and pounded very thin. Not the best! I am used to Carrabba's Marsala!
Great ambiance. Good service. I would have given it a 5 but my salad was a disappointment and our dessert wasn’t brought to us until we had to leave.
Service was poor in my ways. Table of 4. Others were happy with their food, but the meatloaf was dry and bland. Sauce on top did little to help.
Great menu variety. Service was OK but a few disappointments - asked for a glass for a bottled cider, never got it. Has to ask for tap water refills. One meal came with a substitution (tortilla chips instead of Injera bread for Ethiopian food - seriously) with no explanation - person who ordered that might have made another choice if she had been informed before the food showed up. Food taste and quality was very good.
We were very disappointed that they were out of so many beers yet they were still on the menu. The food was okay, nothing too special. I probably wouldn't go back but it was an okay visit.
Food was average. Nothing special. Small portions. Wine my wife had was terrible. Waitress was not knowledgeable about wines or beers they served. Will not return.
Overall a cool place. Smelt dish was small and I’ve honestly had better frozen fish sticks. Smaller serving sizes than expected. Other people at my table had the dinner salad which was also small. Maybe they want you to save room for the giant desserts.
Cool place but not worth the hype. Sorry.
We have ate many times at the. Traffic Jam.
Food was NOT as good as in the past. Service was ok however it took forever to get our meal.
Server was not helpful advising on wine selection.
The food was delicious, service was great. I was disappointed with the serving size. I thought the dinner portions were quite small.
Had not been there in quite some time, I was really looking forward to it. Waited at the hostess stand for a good 5 minutes before being acknowledged by ANYONE. Got our own water from the server station once seated because that also took time for our waiter to come around. He was nice enough, but ....
We ordered the cheese plate, Irish egg rolls and surf and turf pasta. Disappointed in all of it. This place has really slacked off in the food department. I can't say I'll be back .
Service was slow, and not particularly friendly. Food was mostly alright (but no more), but the baked brie came out incredibly under cooked.
I love the venue, but the rest of the restaurant is very underwhelming.
Sadly, this place has really gone downhill. We arrived exactly on time for our reservation, were promptly seated and forgotten about. We waited a very long time for a server to approach our table. After ordering a drink from the bar, it took nearly 15 minutes to receive it! One drink! Deplorable. The food was adequate--nothing special. We spent most of the night looking for our server and wondering if (and when) our food would arrive. Terrible, terrible service. The only bonus of the night was that there was a wine tasting set up that I happened to notice on my way to the bathroom. This was a vendor trying to garnish sales for his product. I imbibed. Best part of the evening.
I have been here many times. Never been disappointed until this last time. Drinks took 1/2 hour to get out to us, 2 of which were sent back because of quality. One food order was wrong and had to go back and all of the food was not hot. Our server was not around much and the SA (server assistant) didn't have a clue. One of ordered apple pie which comes with vanilla ice cream and he brought it out without the ice cream. When the customer asked about it, the SA said that they had just run out of vanilla ice cream. He was trying to pass it off. I didn't see the owner around like usual. Did this recently change owership?
Traffic Jam and Snug is a comfortable place to go and eat. The food is good as is the service. The inside of building is very interesting and the bread, cheese and deserts are wonderful. The fact they make these things make them better. The surrounding area is fun to visit as well. Lots of things to do in all seasons.
The waitress was great in the beginning, but disappeared for 30 min while we were waiting to get our bill. The salmon was over cooked and the rice was undercooked. The atmosphere is very cool.
My fiance and I had our first date at traffic jam 3 years ago and fell in love with the place, the food, the atmosphere all of it! So we found it fitting to return for his milestone birthday and to celebrate his mothers birthday as well this past weekend. Needless to say we were not as happy and nether was our guest, my salmon was overcooked, my fiance's water had a binder clip in the bottom of the glass, one of our guests prime rib was over cooked and his dates meal was cold. I was surprised that the manager did not come to our table to speak to us especially regarding the binder clip in his water which was definitely a hazard as well as a hygiene issue. As well as apologize for the problems with our meals, I can't say that we will never return however I know it won't be anytime soon.....
I took my good friend and his parents there. The food was great and the desserts were definitely next level. Yall never let me down; thank you.
This is my second visit to Traffic Jam & Snug. It was just as enjoyable as the first. This visit was for Detroit’s restaurant week. The menu was very appealing and the food was good.
Not good, not bad. Not memerable. Inconsistent bar drinks. Didn’t make date night special at all
From the minute we walked in we were disappointed. The entire staff hostess, waitress, servers were incredibly incompetent. I can’t go in to details or I will get upset all over again. I will never go back. Never recommend.
Wait was horrific....first got there and was told to wait in line....trouble, there were four lines. Finally, a smart hostess started writing down names and size of group....many people came in with reservations - I never knew that the traffic jam took reservation. Finally, I realized the problem...it was restaurant week....my mistake for being there.
Some confusion at the door. The young lady seating people could have used some help with the pre-theater rush. We were seated within 15 minutes of our reservation. Otherwise, service and food were very good. We’ve been coming here for 40+ years and have never had a bad experience.
I love TJs and so do my friends. I made our reservation on Open Table and they confirmed the day before. However when we arrived they didn’t seem to have it. They were extremely helpful and set us up in a separate room and gave us an amazing waiter, Ramone
Traffic Jam has always been a very pleasant, reliable spot to meet and enjoy consistently good food.
The menu has something for everyone and you can pretty much count on fast service. Great for before or after a show or event.
Awful awful awful! This place is not new to me as we have dined here many many times but tonight I am furious. I made a 6:15 reservation a few days ago and the plan was to dine here before the Fisher Theater play which was to begin at 8pm.
When I walked into the restaurant it was packed with dozens of people in line but having a reservation I walked up to the hostess stand-which was empty. I waited a few minutes for the frazzled hostess to return, I told her I had a 6:15 reservation and she replied that they were “hit” with a number of walk-ins and that I should get in line. I said no, I’m not getting in line, I asked her how she will find me. I also asked her if she was still honoring my reservation.
We were finally seated at 6:40. We told the waiter we had to be out by 7:15-7:20. We ordered right away. At 7:25 we walked out.
People around us we getting served but we only got a crappy 9.95 cheese tray with 4 little tidbits of cheese.
So I’m very disappointed and will not recommend Traffic Jam in the future. That’s too bad but this is not the only time we have experienced poor service and I’m sure it will not be the last.
Waited 20 minutes for drinks only to find out the bar was out of supplies. Dining area was freezing. Ate dinner in coats.
Real nice, food and service was very good!!!!!!!!!!!
I made a reservation for ten people. We've met at this restaurant on previous occassions. The location and food are great. However, they put us in a separate room with no heat! It was freezing cold. They brought in a small space heater which did next to nothing to warm up the space. One member of the group commented that it was the first time she ever ate an entire meal without removing her coat! If we go back it will be in the summer.
Nice place. Booths are a little snug for 4 adults.
I have been eating at Traffic Jam & Snug for years. This experience was not great. The hostess/host looked to be totally unorganized and really not a great first impression as we came to be seated for our 7pm reservation. Tim, our waiter was fine for the most part, but brought us bread, but no bread plates, brought us dinner, but no knives, only had forks. The food was ok.....I had the pot roast and it was not really hot. Others had salad and the fish, and they were satisfied. Dessert was good.
I think my overall feeling about Traffic Jam & Snug, is it needs some TLC. The decorations/seating feels like it has not changed in years. The whole place needs cleaning. Going to the restroom, it was not in great shape, and looking at the back door, in need of paint.
There are so many places to eat in Detroit now, and I think they need to up their game. I don't feel they are keeping pace.
After waiting 40 mins & still not even receiving our first drink we left. We never saw our waiter after the first 2 mins. On way out we told the manager who let’s us leave & just said they were busy. Busy or not there is no explanation for sitting 40 mins with no water. No drink. No bread. No waiter.
