I was not impressed by this restaurant at all. The restaurant was pretty much empty; however, we were seated at the tiniest table in the place. The table was so tiny that our meal and plates did not fit on the table. By looking at the menu, one would think it was a BBQ-type meal, but I was wrong. It was more of just the typical "meat and potatoes" meal. With the name "Tradesman", one thinks "Manly" food, but it wasn't. I do not think I would return to this restaurant.
Lamb belly and cider flight, delicious!!!!!
This place is very dark with very limited menu. Don't go if you don't eat meat. Some of the staff were very friendly but others were not even trying and why would any manager make those waitreses wear 'daisy dukes'?? I doubt I'd go back.
This was a great place to visit with family from out of town. We were there during a 76ers playoff game, so it was rather noisy. There is barely any light so being your own light to see. There is a small candle at the table but it doesn’t light up as much. Definitely try a local beer or cider.
Service was awful, our order was never rung in and the waitress had to come back to the table to ask us what we ordered again. When the food did arrive, we had no plates, silverware, etc. had to flag down someone again to get bbq sauces. Food was very good, but the service was definitely lacking.
The food was very good. We had lamb, shrimp, and steak with coleslaw, fries, collard greens, and cornbread. We were seated next to a table of 20-somethings that were drinking only. They were obviously inebriated and way too loud and obnoxious. Unfortunately, they were not asked to leave. If you are older than 45 you might want to visit on a weeknight.
The food was tasty, although nothing special. Great draft list but couldn’t even make the special cocktails on their menu.
The menu offers an option to add grilled chicken to a salad; when it came out with crispy chicken, we reiterated we asked for grilled and were told “I don’t think we do that.” When the waitress came over she responded “well we don’t have that.” The waitress should know what they do and don’t do from their own menu, before orders are placed. And she should have been more helpful when it came up. After speaking to a manager, they were able to do grilled shrimp and they took it off the bill.
We visited at 6:30 on a Saturday, and there were absolutely smashed people yelling and carrying on. A bit early for that scene.
Food was great.
Way too loud, crowded and dark. Unenjoyable atmosphere
They have a great selection of drinks. The atmosphere is great. Awesome place to meet up with friends for a drink!
Made our reservation easily for a party of six day of on a Saturday. We were seated at a high top table at the bar. Very noisy so a little hard to have conversations with a group of people. Food was great, service was good, though spent time looking for our waitress multiple times.
Great craic. As a tradesman myself, I noticed the masonry bar top and the craftsmanship. Loved it. Good atmosphere, need to turn the light up just a wee bit because I could not see the food menu or my boots.
We brought two friends from NYC to Tradesman's after a Temple men's basketball game and we all agreed that the meal, service, atmosphere and location were perfect. Inventive appetizers and interesting spins on familiar BBQ entrée favorites, cool music and plenty of TVs for a fun vibe, and an attentive waitstaff quick to refill drinks makes Tradesman's perfect for hanging out with friends. This will be one of my family's go-to spots in Center City.
Great food, great scene, great time. Will certainly be back again
Good eats, great service and nice drink selection. Will definitely return.
Tried this restaurant with my friend before we headed to the theatre. We were pleasantly pleased. The portions are huge, even the sides. It is a good opportunity to share unless you want to bring home food for the next day. I had the brisket and it was well seasoned and flavorful.
Wonderful food and great choice of interesting craft beers. We will be back!
Excellent food and atmosphere!
It was really good. We were seated immediately, the drink selections were really good. The food was also good. My brother and I both order the Tri-tip, but they were out of it. We both got the brisket instead. It was good. The brisket beans are amazing.
It was loud but a fun time.
Fun atmosphere- better for the younger crowd! Very loud, but good place to watch a game, etc.
The food is average. The bourbon selection is great. Beers on draft are good too. The noise level was so loud it was hard to hear across the table.
Good place to watch sports. They were very accommodating to me when I came and sat me right away. My friends wanted to be near a TV to watch a basketball game. They were able to move us without much of a hassle when I asked. That was very nice of them! Our waitress was super friendly.
It was weird that they were out of certain bourbons that we ordered. Food was good, not outstanding but still good. We had a good time and that all that matters!
Great fun spot. Outstanding bbq and variety. Came a w large group was seated and served fast! New to Tradesman and definitely will be back. We did the Tailgater and Omnivore for a delicious sampling of apps, enters and sides.
Top billing goes to the bbq/roasted chicken, brisket, and ribs and the kale Caesar salad was delicious!!
Recently had family in town and wanted to get something good to eat in the city before walking around Christmas Village. We thought this restaurant would be a good in-between of chain and super fancy. I made a reservation on open table only about 20 mins prior to coming in and it was accepted and confirmed. We had a larger party, 7 adults and 2 kids under 6. I stood at the host stand for about 15 mins before anyone even acknowledged my or my family's existence. The Eagles game had just finished up, so I get it, people were probably bombarded earlier in the day and working to clean up tables for the evening, but waiting 15 mins just to be noticed was the first red flag. The host finally greeted me and I said we made the res on open table, gave her my name, etc. She huffed and puffed when I said it was for 9 people and ran away to go talk to other coworkers. 5 minutes later she returns and takes us upstairs to seat us at two 6-seater high top tables, again, we had 2 children under 6 with us so high seats really wouldn't work well and also splitting us up when we could see 3-5 empty regular tables to the side. We politely asked if we could push the lower tables together so we can all sit together and continued to get attitude from the hostess and some excuse as to why we couldn't do that. She also explained to us that an online reservation is treated differently than a call in reservation, which literally makes no sense. She finally gave in after a few of us said something to her about not being accommodating and again politely trying to get our entire family to sit together, but then she starts slamming the tables and chairs together like a child that didn't get their way. It was 100% ridiculous and unprofessional. Our server was very nice and accommodating, but there were still some flaws throughout the night that led to us talking to a manager. I don't think I've ever been treated that rudely in Philadelphia, and I've lived here for over 7 years.
Computers were down so they could not calculate our meal. We manually had to help the waitress with our bill, and show her how to calculate sales tax. She brought us a HAND WRITTEN receipt. I understand it wasn’t her fault, but it took us almost an hour and 20 minutes to get our final check.
Food was just ok. Ribs a little dry. Mac and cheese, not cheesy enough. Wanted to love it, but really, just ok.
I made reservations to bring out of town colleagues to Tradesman’s for lunch today at 1:30. They have never been to Philadelphia before and I wanted to make sure to take them to a nice sports bar for lunch and football. I was confused when we tried to come in and were rudely yelled at to come back at 2pm since I clearly had 1:30 reservations. When we came back at 2, we were again rudely told they weren’t done brunch. I’m not sure if this is a thing they do every Sunday or not because the place is so new, but why would they allow me to make reservations online? It was embarrassing to be treated this way especially in front of people not from here. I will not be back.
Great bar/food experience. Everyone left full, tipsy, and happy. Mission accomplished.
Place isn’t a restaurant...it’s a club that is very loud, not enough light to read the menu, awful service and mediocre food.
Great food and location. Can't wait to go back! Nacho's are amazing!
Went with friends to catch up and watch the sixers game. Great cocktails and beers. Tried a few cocktails, cider flight, and beer flight. Also shared some apps. Everything was awesome!
Wanted to take leftovers home - was brought a cardboard box that had no coating to prevent leakage and when i questioned it i was brought a piece of tinfoil - i had to ask for a bag to carry home and server seemed confused - the manager jumped in - asked for sugar for my tea and was brought a splenda- I asked server for sugar and was told they didn't have any - it was all so haphazard
Food was delicious but service was slow and not attentive. It is a bar trying to be a restaurant. It was loud and had many drunk people. Not a nice dinner out type of place.
Waitress was not very good. Didn’t write order down and didn’t get it right. Then actually questioned us like we were wrong and she was right as to what was ordered.
It was freezing in the restaurant- people waiting to get into the bar area and they allowed the front door to remain open for a long period of time instead of keeping it closed til more people could walk in.
Wouldn’t rush back.
We booked off of Open Table, but didn’t realize it was more of a club atmosphere on Friday nights. We had to resort to texting because we couldn’t hear the person next to us. Good food, but not for hanging out.
Great food, terrible service. Also very loud-server couldn’t hear us above the music and was shouting at us in order to be heard.
Admittedly, I’m from the South, so although I don’t consider myself an authority on the subject of BBQ, I’ve eaten my faIr share of the food. That said, here’s my assessment:
Food- meh (food was virtually tasteless without the addition of sauce); service- average; waitstaff uniforms that show more than a little butt cheek- less than appetizing. I have also never been to a BBQ restaurant in any region of the country that does not allow substitutions for side items, as is the practice at Tradesman’s. There are extensive beer and whiskey lists to choose from. The bottom line- go to Tradesman’sto drink. Go elsewhere to eat.
Service was very slow and at times the bar crowd was spilling over near our table.
Heard a lot of great things about this new place, so I was excited to eat here last weekend. The food was 10/10 but the service was poor. We waited awhile to have our orders taken and when our food was delivered, we had no silverware or napkins at our table and waited awhile for those as well. It was also so loud in the restaurant that it was extremely hard to get any server's attention. We were not expecting it to be so loud and crowded at 6 pm. Basically, the food and beer choices were good but the service was disappointing and it was just far too loud to fully enjoy our dinner.
This place has amazing food. Their BBQ is delicious, and has easily become a new favorite of mine in Philadelphia. It’s a fun atmosphere with country music playing and big screens at the bar. The food is well priced and the sides are mouth watering.
