The food was great. The bar was busy, but the dining section only had my table and 3 others full. I thought that was odd for a Friday night in center city. We ordered appetizers and our meal at the same time. Our appetizer came out and not 3 minutes later, our food did. We were at a 2 top table and had to put our some of food on the empty table next to us. The food overall was good. We were out of there within an hour, since our food came out SO quickly.
Food was great, but waitress was rude and we couldn’t even hear each other above the noise in the restaurant. We had to push past crowds of drunk people to use the restroom.
Great food and atmosphere.
We were visiting Philly and took a chance on Tradesman's because we love BBQ; it was a great decision. The food was excellent (especially the fried chicken) and the service was fast and friendly. It was loud but this was not surprising for a Saturday during football season.
I was honestly blown away by the food here. If you have overlooked this place thinking it was just another ordinary bar scene you would be completely wrong. We managed to swing through during restaurant week so we got an incredible value. However, the food was so out of this world it would be worth it either way. We tried the ribs, pulled pork, corn bread, greens, pickle pot, And two different desserts. One thing just tasted better than the next until we were so stuffed we had to have the wait staff role us out the door!
The food and service was good but be prepared for loud music. The vibe seemed mostly like a sports bar but the DJ and music didn’t seem to mesh with the sports bar vibe.
Large portions and very loud inside, but good service and quality food.
Great beer selection, delicious food (I had the Beef Brisket-outstanding!). Super service staff. May be a little too lively if you want a quiet conversation, but I loved the vibrant ambience.
The place is very cool, with high ceilings and fun Knick-knacks on the walls. The servers were very friendly. The beer selection was good. The food, unfortunately, was not. My fried chicken was way way overdone and flavorless. The Mac and cheese, while a decent size, was bland. The piece of white bread that comes with it? Why? Two friends had the pulled pork sandwich. One complained that it was dry. The potato skins were interesting. The fries were soggy. So, good concept, good space, good location, and good beer but they need to step up their food game if they are to survive.
Food is decent bar food. Environment is ok, at 8 they started tearing apart the bar seating and set up for more of a club scene.
I stepped out to make a call at 9 and was asked for my Id to get back in. Not at all what I was expecting from this place.
The food is very good! Got the fried chicken, ribs, and beef brisket. The brisket stole the show! The three selection meal was way more than two can eat, but leftovers are great too! Only complaint is that the place is loud, but that is to be expected as the front is a large bar area with big screen TVs and a lively crowd. Definitely worth it though.
Absolutely amazing experience, from the bar to the table side service.
Rushed service. Cold food, that was not addressed. Mac and chez tasted like boxed Kraft mac n' cheese.
No request for refills on drinks. Not impressed at all, very disappointed.
The food was great but unfortunately still a little unorganized overall. Didnt credit our reservations, mains came out the same time as the starters, never came over to see if we wanted another glass (we did!). But again, food tasted great so with some improvement on the service, I would go back.
Food was good, music was good but then they played the soccer game in Spanish almost too loud to be able to enjoy yourself or hear others.... Aside from that it was a good experience
Take a good look at the can and bottle menu. Some real gems in there.
We sat up top for hopefully a quite but it was still loud. Hardest thing was it was dark and you could not see what you were eating. Service was great, some of the food was cold but overall great.
I had hoped it would be cooler... Very pub like atmosphere, tables in front are more fun. Service was pleasant but not well trained. Be aware some things are made to share, we should have had that drilled in when we ordered as a couple of people got dinner for two (whoops). Also for a place that advertises craft beers, the selection was weak. There were out of a local beer and just sent a replacement (which was un-named, server didn't know...), perhaps a warning and a taster might have been nice.
Had a reservation here for dinner with a large group. Wanted to get some drinks and food in a fun atmosphere. When we walked up it was a slam packed club- no tables. Nobody eating. not even space to WALK. Why do u have reservations available when clearly you don’t have them? We had to last minute find somewhere else to eat for a special occasion.
I was not impressed by this restaurant at all. The restaurant was pretty much empty; however, we were seated at the tiniest table in the place. The table was so tiny that our meal and plates did not fit on the table. By looking at the menu, one would think it was a BBQ-type meal, but I was wrong. It was more of just the typical "meat and potatoes" meal. With the name "Tradesman", one thinks "Manly" food, but it wasn't. I do not think I would return to this restaurant.
Way too noisy. The man singing and playing guitar was way too loud. Unfortunately we sat right next to him. Make it impossible to talk to anyone at the table. It was extremely difficult to even order.
Lamb belly and cider flight, delicious!!!!!
This place is very dark with very limited menu. Don't go if you don't eat meat. Some of the staff were very friendly but others were not even trying and why would any manager make those waitreses wear 'daisy dukes'?? I doubt I'd go back.
This was a great place to visit with family from out of town. We were there during a 76ers playoff game, so it was rather noisy. There is barely any light so being your own light to see. There is a small candle at the table but it doesn’t light up as much. Definitely try a local beer or cider.
Service was awful, our order was never rung in and the waitress had to come back to the table to ask us what we ordered again. When the food did arrive, we had no plates, silverware, etc. had to flag down someone again to get bbq sauces. Food was very good, but the service was definitely lacking.
The food was very good. We had lamb, shrimp, and steak with coleslaw, fries, collard greens, and cornbread. We were seated next to a table of 20-somethings that were drinking only. They were obviously inebriated and way too loud and obnoxious. Unfortunately, they were not asked to leave. If you are older than 45 you might want to visit on a weeknight.
The food was tasty, although nothing special. Great draft list but couldn’t even make the special cocktails on their menu.
The menu offers an option to add grilled chicken to a salad; when it came out with crispy chicken, we reiterated we asked for grilled and were told “I don’t think we do that.” When the waitress came over she responded “well we don’t have that.” The waitress should know what they do and don’t do from their own menu, before orders are placed. And she should have been more helpful when it came up. After speaking to a manager, they were able to do grilled shrimp and they took it off the bill.
We visited at 6:30 on a Saturday, and there were absolutely smashed people yelling and carrying on. A bit early for that scene.
Food was great.
Way too loud, crowded and dark. Unenjoyable atmosphere
They have a great selection of drinks. The atmosphere is great. Awesome place to meet up with friends for a drink!
Made our reservation easily for a party of six day of on a Saturday. We were seated at a high top table at the bar. Very noisy so a little hard to have conversations with a group of people. Food was great, service was good, though spent time looking for our waitress multiple times.
Great craic. As a tradesman myself, I noticed the masonry bar top and the craftsmanship. Loved it. Good atmosphere, need to turn the light up just a wee bit because I could not see the food menu or my boots.
We brought two friends from NYC to Tradesman's after a Temple men's basketball game and we all agreed that the meal, service, atmosphere and location were perfect. Inventive appetizers and interesting spins on familiar BBQ entrée favorites, cool music and plenty of TVs for a fun vibe, and an attentive waitstaff quick to refill drinks makes Tradesman's perfect for hanging out with friends. This will be one of my family's go-to spots in Center City.
Great food, great scene, great time. Will certainly be back again
Good eats, great service and nice drink selection. Will definitely return.
Tried this restaurant with my friend before we headed to the theatre. We were pleasantly pleased. The portions are huge, even the sides. It is a good opportunity to share unless you want to bring home food for the next day. I had the brisket and it was well seasoned and flavorful.
Wonderful food and great choice of interesting craft beers. We will be back!
Excellent food and atmosphere!
It was really good. We were seated immediately, the drink selections were really good. The food was also good. My brother and I both order the Tri-tip, but they were out of it. We both got the brisket instead. It was good. The brisket beans are amazing.
It was loud but a fun time.
With a group of 12 and everyone enjoyed their meal! Take your big meat eaters here for sure!!
