Birthday, was lovely.
The crab cake was uninspiring, difficult to tell how much crab was in it. Liked the carrot dish small plate and the lamb. Service reasonable.
We had a wonderful time at TRACE for a post-birthday lunch. Prometheus was such an amazing server and even promised to make sure I got frosé on the next brunch
Trace is inside the W hotel, which is a bit of a maze if you don't come in the correct door. Parking can also be a challenge - just pick the public garage directly across the street. Food was good and we did stay and talk quite a while. We would have appreciated a little more water, but the waitstaff vanished after the bill was paid. Good menu and convenient for lunch downtown or a meeting after work.
On Friday, lunch is not served only brunch. Brunch is mediocre at best. The services is very slow so if you don't have 2.5 hours skip it. I ordered the Migas (they were really only shambled eggs with none of the good stuff added), my friend ordered the crab and avocado toast (it was so small, we needed to order more food), the sandwhich with eggs on tops not very good either. Pretty place, food is really no where near its price point. High price and no there, there. Skip it!
We really enjoyed our dinner. We made 7:00 reservations and were a little early so we got to enjoy the happy hour specials at the bar. Great drink specials and delicious cocktails. We were seated promptly at 7 and enjoyed an amazing meal!! Highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion to date night or just dinner with friends.
Wonderful lunch menu located in the W hotel. Would recommend and would eat here again!
Trace is in a great location, and the ambiance is very cool. They had a DJ outside, the decor is beautiful and it’s a great spot for people watching. The food was only so-so though. We ordered a brisket kolache that was really a loaf of bread smothered is meat and sauce (if you’ve had real kolaches, you’d be very disappointed). The toast for the crab and avocado toast was a bit tough and the dish needed salt. The chicken fried steak was tough, and my husband’s burger was tasty but undercooked. Nothing was horrible, but nothing was particularly special either. Great spot to grab a cocktail and chill, but many better places to eat in Austin.
Brunch menu was outstanding.
We moved to Dripping Springs in March and I've wanted to try Trace downtown. We finally got there this week and were pleased with the experience! We split a beet and spinach salad - both were quite good, and then split a burger! YUMMY! Best burger is a LONG time for me.
They are awesome with their service!
Too pricing for what you get. Food was fine but nothing to write about. Service was great! Ambiance was great! Very quiet. Nice place to go to talk.Parking deserves a mention here...I called..."Where should I park". The answer was we have validated parking at the W Hotel which is an outright misleading statement. While they validate, it's $9 with validating. Very mis-leading, which I did not appreciate.
Our server Prometheus is the best
We usually dine at Trace before going to a concert at the Moody/ACL Live as it is very convenient to the venue. While the music by DJ on the patio was a little loud; hard to carry on conversations with friends, the experience was great!
Trace is my favorite place for business lunches. The service is friendly and fast, the food beautiful and delicious, the ambiance upscale yet welcoming. And it’s even more affordable than many food trucks that come stop at our office.
For this lunch, our server recommended the kale salad with grilled shrimp. It was wonderful - with a creamy dressing that broke down the kale just right and perfectly cooked shrimp.
The food was so salty I could barely eat it.
DJ playing dance music way too loud. Couldn’t even hear server. Server couldn’t get volume reduced
It’s brunch not happy hour
Menu good service otherwise good. But if you want conversation during brunch go elsewhere
the pistachio dip was one of the blandest things i've ever put in my mouth other a sort of astringent kind of flavor. our entrees came and they were so salty my date couldn't even finish hers. i could barely eat mine. we both agreed we wished we'd just gone to mcdonalds. i'll stick to launderette and justine's and such in the future.
This is the third time that I went to Trace with my mother and the third time that we really enjoyed it. The menu changes with the season so we have had different food each time, but it is always very good with a few things always being great. The lamb shanks were particularly good this time. Our server...whose name I can't remember was knowledgeable. Oh, thats another thing. The servers are always knowledgeable about the food.
Breakfast for Mother’s Day. Food was great as always. We got there at 9:45 and brunch does not start until 10:30 - however, the breakfast menu was exceptional and we were able to get our favorite (donut holes) from the brunch menu to cap off breakfast. Great food and ambience.
From the moment we entered the restaurant, the hostess greeted us with a pleasant and sincere welcome smile. She acknowledged our reservation time, and that we were dining at the restaurant as a result of celebrating a wedding anniversary. Our waiter William was well dressed and properly groomed. He offered a wine, beer and cocktail menu, which we reviewed prior to ordering. Nice selection of each, from avant-garde drinks, to hand crafted local beers. Wine list was extensive but manageable. First Plate selection of Jalapeño Corn Bread was very tasty, as well as Spinach salad. We ordered and shared the Brink Baked 1/2 Chicken and Daily Special Nut Encrusted Quail. it was a nice surprise to receive a "on the house" hand-made chocolate mini desert, with carefully written (in chocolate) Happy Anniversary. We finished our dinner with some Raspberry Sorbet. I would recommend this restaurant to family and friends. Cost per dinner was on-par for what we ordered and consumed. I would share that the meal was filling, without feeling stuffed.
The service was spectacular but the food was disappointing. I ordered short ribs and there were two small pieces. One piece was great and the other was a big chunk of fat with no meat on it. After eating all that was edible they asked if my meal was OK. They took my plate back and manager came over to apologize and offered to replace my meal but at that point I didn't want to try again. They paid for both of our desserts and my dinner. The waitress apologized again but it wasn't her fault and her service was spectacular. I also ordered sangria which was described on menu as wine with seasonal fruit. It had one orange slice on glass and no other fruit but it was mixed with vodka which made it too strong for me. If menu mentioned vodka I wouldn't have ordered it as I like my sangria as menu stated and the vodka upsets my stomach. I didn't mention this to manager but it was incorrectly described on menu and as a result of this I had an upset stomach the rest of the evening.
Great service - beautiful patio. Enjoyed the experience.
Had a great time!! My wife and I came for our 3 year anniversary and we received excellent service. We recommend this place!
We had the octopus and crab cakes as an appetizers and the Trace burger and pasta as entrees and it was all outstanding.
Trace is our favorite restaurant. Great staff, fantastic food and wonderful patio. We had another fabulous evening.
The location is great, the outdoor seating was a little loud with ACL blaring music upstairs, but overall it was good.
The food was disappointing. The crab cakes had nice flavor, but had absolutely no lump crab meat in them as I prefer. My wife ordered the lamb and it was excellent. She ate ever bite of it and enjoyed it.
I ordered the short rib and was completely disappointed, to the point I did not finish it. The meat was vey tender but had absolutely no flavor. I was one of the most bland pieces of meat I have ever had. The turnips were nicely cooked, but once again they were very bland. Some salt and pepper, maybe some rosemary or thyme would have made the turnips very nice. The ribs on the other hand, I have no idea what they did to the meat to take away even that great beef flavor.
Overall, a disappointing experience.
Service and food was amazing. The manager came by very briefly to pour wine but was oddly cold and brief. Otherwise, our waiter, Austin could not have been sweeter and the special bday dessert w my boyfriend’s name was a lovely touch. Great spot!
Awesome food and staff made our anniversary unique thanks
Gurls night out friends from Mexico in town
Best burger in town! Great service! Would recommend!
My sister and I drove down from Houston to take my daughter ( a UT senior) out to a special lunch. We were driving back immediately. So naturally a lot depended on the lunch making a total of 6 hours of driving worthwhile. IT was most certainly not. Everything we had was tasteless - starting with a too garlicky pistachio dip, a greasy cornbread (which was the best of the things we had) and overbreaded fish tacos. Less hype about foraging and hunting in the promotional literature and more attention to taste would have helped.
Howver, The desert was prettily presented and tasty enough and the service was attentive.
Great location and atmosphere for a business lunch. A bonus that the food was delicious as well.
Didn’t eat much, but the food we had was fairly bland - short rib specifically.
Food and service were outstanding! Will definitely return.
The common thread in the group was the food was just "ok" for the price. When you are paying more, you expect exceptional....
Great Service and Food
Went to Trace for Easter and it was great! All the dishes were loved by everyone and the service (Promethius was our waiter) perfect. Our first time to Trace and would go back again. I also have a nut allergy and they accommodated me without hesitating.
The food was incredibly disappointing. The short rib was dry and cold, the bass did not taste fresh and the portion of sides/vegetables was minuscule and gross. The server and manager both tried to make things right and could not have been nicer, but we won’t eat there again.
Another nice brunch at Trace with family and our daughter's friend from college. (Our daughter wanted a nice Austin hot-spot for brunch and we chose Trace.) Good mimosas and a nice mix of food. The french toast was excellent as was the spinach salad. Migas were great too.
