My son and I were not able to make the family Thanksgiving trip and decided to have a special dinner downtown. Our waiter was so sweet and the restaurant was nice. The food was just okay. The first course was great. We had the butternut squash soup and pasta dish, and both were really good. The main dish was so disappointing. My turkey dinner was dry and cold, and my son’s prime rib was over cooked. The gentleman next to us sent his back - we probably should have done that.
I asked for coffee with my dessert, and it was forgotten.
For such an expensive dinner, I was expecting so much more - especially since they only had to perfect a few choices.
Love the dog friendliness of the W Hotel and Trace! It was a fun Thanksgiving prefix meal and wine pairing. We waited at the bar before our scheduled meal and enjoyed the most tasty martinis! We did not like the oyster stuffing much and the turkey was a little dry but overall a good meal.
Slow service, food was cold, very underwhelming for the price
Our reservation was for 11:00, and we didn’t get seated until 12:00, then we were sitting so close to the table next to us, and even though the food was delicious, it was skimpy portions and everything was cold. Not even warm. Just room temperature and it was cool in the restaurant. The food was tasty or we would have complained. I asked for Horseradish for my Prime Rib, and the server said the kitchen was too busy she couldn’t ask them. We won’t be having Thanksgiving there again. It’s a good thing the food tasted delicious. Not enough though for Thanksgiving.
The food was cold. They forgot our wine. We reminded four different people. They brought the wrong desserts. And they never offered coffee with the dessert. Will not return.
Market plate was good but sparse, short ribs technique was odd/ not great and Brussel Sprouts were just ok.. both could have used a sauce
We were there to support our friends performing in the Drag Show. Food was subpar at best and our waitress seemed to always be hard to come by. For a hotel facility I was also surprised how long it took to get both food and drinks out.
Overall would go back for entertainment and drinks.
Waited quite awhile to get seated, even with a reservation and no one in front of us. Finally got seated, then left after 10 or 15 minutes of no one showing up to take our order. Will never go back to that sorry place.
I had the Apple Brined Pork Chop at this place and it was way above my expectations and so moist, juicy and tasty! This was way better than that other Steakhouse that does the Pork Chop specials every Wed and Fri.
Our host sat us down with some waters great start, then our server came and took our drink order 2 champagne (celebrating) and a charcuterie board. Once the board arrives we order our 2nd round of drinks and food. That's it, she did not come back, I had to track down a manager and 2 bussers if they could find our server. Neither of them knew who she was. That was after 15 minutes of waiting patiently. 10 minutes later my date got her soup n salad and 10 minutes after that I got my steak. 5 minutes later she came with the drink order, we declined them because we were already eating and were put off my the hotels smoking section that is directly above the outside seating area. Almost forgot to mention the table next to us ordered before us and the lady got her meal before ours, we got ours and were checked out while the man was still waiting for his food. Food was delicious, service was atrocious.
Lack of staff not a good restaurant considering the hotel
Went here with dogs. Sat at outdoor patio service was fine but food not. One of the recommended dishes was biscuits and gravy. Did not finish and return to kitchen. Got chicken and waffles. Not much of improvement. Wife got Benedict and not good at all. Don't understand how this place is at top hotel and subpar food.
Saturday outdoor dining for brunch for 4. Service was quick. Rated food 3/5 as we were dissatisfied with the AVO toast-came on white bread for $14. Although the salmon salad was well prepared & side potatoes were delicious!
No one at the host stand for about 5 minutes. Seated in a booth with food stuck to the wall. Slow service.
My first time here, I picked this restaurant because of the reviews but I was very disappointed. It wasn’t up to the standard, the food wasn’t tasty at all. The menu didn’t have variety of options. The short ribs appetizer was so greasy and it smelled fresh. Main dinner menu was all new our waitress didn’t know much about what the food tasted like, because they changed the menu but she tried. It was such a bad idea for them to bring out new menus on a Friday night. There are better places to eat in Austin not going back there again. First time going on a date with my husband couldn’t eat, ended up eating cereal when I got back home. Totally was of time and money.
I made the reservation for a Friday 11:45 am lunch. When we arrived, we waited 20 minutes at the host stand - waiting for anyone to help us. In front of us were 2 other parties, also waiting. No one was manning the host stand to sit us. After 15 minutes, the other 2 parties left. Finally a bartender showed up and said, go ahead and sit anywhere. We sat ourselves and waited. We had someone come after 5 minutes waiting, fill our waters, and say "a server will be with you shortly." Finally the Director of Food and Bev came out as our waiter, bringing us our menus and drink orders. It just took entirely too long for us to order, get our food, and be waited on. I love Trace. I brought my friends here because we have been coming here for 10 years and always get amazing service. Our normal waitress Ruby wasn't there this week. I understand the pandemic and staff shortages, but there were 2 parties inside and 2 parties outside on the patio. I know things are tough, but I'm saying this from a place of love, please give the restaurant a shot but also make sure they're honest with their service, as it's normally impeccable.
Food was not good! Skip!
Loved the music and patio for our evening with out of state friends. Happy hour drinks and food were a bonus!
Had a wonder time at the Hocus Pocus drag brunch beautiful weather seating was nice. Food was fantastic.
We find out at the end that our mimosas were 3 times more expensive than they usually are because it was a drag brunch? Never doing that again.
I took my date to Drag Brunch, it was a blast!
Visited for a drag brunch. The entertainment was great but the service was slow, our drink orders were forgotten and then I received something I didn't order. Food was just okay and the side salad I received didn't even have a few of the items listed on the menu. Not worth the money.
We recently came for Drag Brunch on the patio. So we paid $10 per person for our tickets plus whatever we ordered for the day.
Upon arrival my first thought was: they must be severely understaffed. We waited at the host stand for a while, a line started forming behind us. The bartenders just stared, bussers walked by and avoided eye contact, and after a while someone finally sat us down.
We had a larger group of 8 and sat for 25 minutes without being greeted or water. So we went inside to find someone to come out to help us. We ordered everything at once, appetizers, food, and drink. That was basically the first and the last time we saw our server. I honestly feel bad for him, he seemed nice enough but completely overwhelmed.
We got plenty of water refills from random staff but nobody came by to ask about drinks, quality of food, or coffee refills. If we asked someone who was dropping off water for help they responded “I will find your server”. Every time we wanted something we had to get up and go inside to find someone to help us.
To the drag queens: drag show was the highlight of the morning. You killed it.
To the Trace Staff: You should be embarrassed. If you are that short staffed… don’t host events. We paid over $300 (and forced 20% gratuity) for abysmal service and sub-par food.
Limited menu. Took awhile for food to come out, even though there weren’t many customers, but the service staff was very polite and attentive. Food was decent, but the highlight was the ambiance. It’s a beautiful restaurant, and they played great music from the 70s and 80s. We’re not dying to return, but it’s a good spot to hit if other restaurants downtown are too crowded.
poor consistency with cocktails. wine list minimal. food average to good. i just didn’t understand a chopped watermelon, golden beet salad on crushed avocado. it was such a small portion it was difficult to share. you can’t beat the outdoor setting and entertainment was very good. the burgers were well liked. salmon average as if no restaurant really values this menu option & the risotto bed was good. it’s a good value because nothing is expensive. i would return with different expectations.
We go to Trace a lot. It has a great patio for outside seating. Service was great as usual.
It continues to be a great option on Friday nights!
Beautiful evening. Menu was a bit limited - but all items ordered were very good.
Great restaurant and it's a great spot if you going to a ACL event later the same day.
It was great experience overall, sat outside there was live music.
We were seated at our table for one hour before we ever received our drinks. It was not the servers fault. The restaurant was so understaffed but they kept seating people. They should have stopped seating people. We had to get up and leave and go somewhere else to eat and drink.
The patio was a nice space and live music added to the ambience. They seemed to have quite a few servers on staff, but they were not assigned to one area and had to move all over inside and outside so wait times were very long for simple water fills, extra drinks, etc.
My Bridesmaids and I went to the Trace for my bachelorette dinner. The service was poor, the food was missing when it was supposed to be “all brought out” and we kept having to ask for water refills. Frustration and disappointing when of all nights, this was supposed to be a night full of fun and relaxation.
The service was subpar, we waited for our drinks to be made for 15 minutes and they were not busy. When they came they were warm. Apps were good. My husband had the octopus which was fantastic and my arugula and avocado salad was good. But our main meals were not good. The steaks were under cooked, we sent them back and they came back just as under cooked. The only saving grace was the music. I would not go there again.
They were so understaffed they should have closed the restaurant for the day. We left and walked to Lamberts.
Past visits to Trace have been great. This time around the food was very underwhelming. The plating of the food left much to be desired, lacking garnishes or any type of creativity or passion put into the food. Although the food was lacking, the service remained attentive.
Great location, food and service. Outside dining with live music.
Fun ambiance, good service but awful food. The quiche was obviously frozen and re-heated in the microwave. Portions were small. Very good coffee.
Great patio, great ambiance and great service. Food was good but not great for the price. There were more choices in the past and much better choices. The fish I had was great but all the small plates were subpar for the price, so a little disappointed. Nothing they showed on the menu online was on the current menu, which is kind of why I went there.
Wonderful brunch experience and excellent and fun server! Will be returning!
