Trace - W - Austin Ratings and Reviews
Was not that empresses with the restaurant, service was disappointing, especially not having a coat hanger when it was raining and freezing cold outside I was wearing a big fur coat and had no where to put it. Disappointing and unacceptable for the W hotel!
Food was very good and perfect temperature. Server wasn’t all that professional-rolled her eyes at me at least once (I don’t think I’m a bad patron). When she delivered the check, she was all smiles. Maybe she was just not having a good day. I will definitely return.
We went for brunch, number one they’ve taken their best items like the shrimp and grits and the quail and waffles off the brunch menu. The waiter we had was horrible. He had a smart mouth and he just wasn’t hospitable. And when I didn’t leave a tip he came back and asked why I stiffed him his tip and he said it was rude. So Trace is definitely off our brunch list and we go to brunch every Sunday after church. We are know as the Brunch Crew. We post and give reviews on Facebook and Instagram.
Service was great as usual, as was the coffee and mimosa's. Most of the small plates were good, except for the Boston Cream French Toast, which leaked frying oil every time you cut into it. The last time we dined at Trace, I don't remember this being an issue. I love the energy at this restaurant, but the music was a little loud this time. It was occasionally difficult to hear the person sitting next to you.
The servers (particularly Prometheus) and manager (Hillary) provided superior service as usual. I’m really hooked on a few of their menu items, but have never ordered anything that disappointed me. Granted I should disclose that I’m not a picky eater, but I love the food here. I love going to Sunday brunch with DJ Kurupt - great vibe, music is always on point.
Went in for Christmas dinner. When we asked to be seated inside instead of a covered patio, we were given some vague response about, “reservations, because reasons...” The patio was loud and the temperature was very inconsistent.
Waitress was outstanding and appropriately attentive. Menu was nicely explained and was a good selection. Waitress asked how the entrees were and when we mentioned the lamb was mostly fat with very little meat, she didn’t offer anything other than a fairly weak, “we try to trim the fat, but leave enough to be flavorful...” Sure, but that didn’t negate the fact there was very little actual meat in the entree. The prime rib was excellent and more than enough to be worth the price.
Service was nicely timed until the very end, and the wait for the check took a bit too long.
We went to Trace for a special Christmas Day 3 course dinner with family. The beet salad appetizer was odd, no greens, popcorn sprinkled on top, flavor was just ok. The specialty biscuits were hard, over cooked, and more like a ciabatta roll in texture. The prime rib was nothing special taste-wise. My husband got the smallest rack of lamb entree and left hungry. The desserts left something to be desired. I was very disappointed, given my high expectations from the good reviews. We will not be going back.
Trace is a great restaurant to visit before going to ACL Live. The food was good and the appetizer small plates are generous portions. While I enjoyed all our food, the shrimp and grits were my least favorite. They were still good, but not as good as everything else we ordered. The restaurant also has a great win selection by either the bottle or glass and the waiters are very knowledgeable about the wine and food parings.
Given a generous expense account, Trace would impress an important client. However, Austin offers several much less expensive alternatives that deliver impeccably prepared and presented dishes in elegant settings served by graciously attentive and knowledgeable wait staff. Great place for wanna-be 'one percenters'.
Thanksgiving day finding parking near the hotel/restaurant was a nightmare. Lots of people were walking everywhere for the Turkey Trot.
We brought cash for the valet but, roads around entrance were blocked. Parked at a public garage a few blocks away. $13 for one hour.
I would like to have been emailed directions on how to reach the entrance around the blockades.
Food was a bit over salty.
Cocktail: Burning Bush was delicious!! Nice atmosphere for a date or to enjoy a signature cocktail.
Was looking for a cute place downtown to have a little date night. We needed a last minute reservation and Trace was one of the first few places on the list. The location was great and the atmosphere was perfect for a slightly more upscale evening than we are used to. The food was delicious! We started of with the formage plate which was fantastic and perfect for a little something before the main course. I had the coffee braised short rib and my boyfriend ordered the salmon. My plate came with some peppers mixed into the vegetables and I had to chug my water, but the flavors were well-balanced. Service was excellent and prices were pretty high compared to our usual dinner dates, but was expected.
We had dinner there prior to an ACL Live taping. Outside table, great people-watching. Excellent burger!! And service. The only negative was the large table of out-of-towners sitting next to us who'd never heard the cacophony of grackles at dusk before. One woman kept clapping loudly to hush them -- she was much more intrusive than they were. Otherwise, a lovely meal!
I can't believe I've never been here. The weather was perfect for outdoor seating. The atmosphere is great - you can enjoy people watching on the street and the cool lights come on in the trees at dusk. Service was casually slow, but the server was personable and knowledgeable about the menu. I can be a picky eater and she knew how to answer my questions and guide me to a good choice for me. I had dinner with a co-worker. We both had the onion soup and agreed it needed a bit of salt. I had the salmon, which was plated beautifully and very good. I also tried the mushroom risotto, which was cooked perfectly (not mushy) and had great flavor. They have a great cocktail list - I think I may be in love with the Fall O Tov Cocktail and am going to try to duplicate it at home! And although their wines by the glass menu is small, their selections have a decent representation of varietals and wine regions.
I was visiting Austin on business and this was one of the choices on my to do lists. My friend and I made reservations for Brunch on Sunday.. We were greeted by the lovely hostess. Our Serve was Chandella. She happen to be a Breath of Fresh Air and treated Us as such that made the whole experience as Trace a pleasant one. The food here is incredibly delicious. The chefs know what they're doing at this restaurant..
