Trace - W - Austin Ratings and Reviews
Was looking for a cute place downtown to have a little date night. We needed a last minute reservation and Trace was one of the first few places on the list. The location was great and the atmosphere was perfect for a slightly more upscale evening than we are used to. The food was delicious! We started of with the formage plate which was fantastic and perfect for a little something before the main course. I had the coffee braised short rib and my boyfriend ordered the salmon. My plate came with some peppers mixed into the vegetables and I had to chug my water, but the flavors were well-balanced. Service was excellent and prices were pretty high compared to our usual dinner dates, but was expected.
We had dinner there prior to an ACL Live taping. Outside table, great people-watching. Excellent burger!! And service. The only negative was the large table of out-of-towners sitting next to us who'd never heard the cacophony of grackles at dusk before. One woman kept clapping loudly to hush them -- she was much more intrusive than they were. Otherwise, a lovely meal!
I can't believe I've never been here. The weather was perfect for outdoor seating. The atmosphere is great - you can enjoy people watching on the street and the cool lights come on in the trees at dusk. Service was casually slow, but the server was personable and knowledgeable about the menu. I can be a picky eater and she knew how to answer my questions and guide me to a good choice for me. I had dinner with a co-worker. We both had the onion soup and agreed it needed a bit of salt. I had the salmon, which was plated beautifully and very good. I also tried the mushroom risotto, which was cooked perfectly (not mushy) and had great flavor. They have a great cocktail list - I think I may be in love with the Fall O Tov Cocktail and am going to try to duplicate it at home! And although their wines by the glass menu is small, their selections have a decent representation of varietals and wine regions.
I was visiting Austin on business and this was one of the choices on my to do lists. My friend and I made reservations for Brunch on Sunday.. We were greeted by the lovely hostess. Our Serve was Chandella. She happen to be a Breath of Fresh Air and treated Us as such that made the whole experience as Trace a pleasant one. The food here is incredibly delicious. The chefs know what they're doing at this restaurant..
This is our second time eating at trace. Both times we have been floored! We ate brunch, the mimosa pitchers were delicious. My wife had smoked salmon and bagel crisps. I had the "el Gordo" sandwich. Our friend had duck chilaquiles. All three were cooked perfectly and came out quickly. We were celebrating a birthday and our waiter provided a slice of cake for the birthday girl. We indulged in a kahlua cinnamon roll afterwards. We decided to eat outside so that our dog could come. The waitstaff was very accommodating and even gave our pup some dog safe ice cream. The restaurant had a DJ playing and he did a great job. Overall we left extremely happy and extremely full! Great job!
Loved Trace's vibe! The perfect place for Sunday brunch. Unlike many other restaurants downtown in Austin, it was diverse, the food was great, $1 mimosas were a great addition to the amazing food and service was top notch. This is my new spot for Sunday Brunch!
Sadly, this is not a great review. We visited for Sunday brunch and ordered the Trace Migas (sadly, dry and not flavorful), the Lavaca omelette (the braised beef and sauce were too strong for a morning omelette) and the Boston Creme French toast (the French toast was fried and fairly greasy and the chocolate sauce was gritty and left us clearing our throats for half the afternoon). We also ordered the El Gordo, which was quite tasty (although we would leave the challah bun off , or request it to the side).
Always a fun time going to Trace! I had been before, but this night I took my boyfriend for his birthday, and he had never been. Always fantastic service and atmosphere- our date was perfect in every way and Trace made our experience one for the books. Thanks again!
Went for breakfast and enjoyed the fruit salad which was a mix of pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, blueberries, blackberries and strawberries. There was a really delicious red berry coulis and lemon curd on the plate also.
Also ordered the migas and while the dish tasted good, it was unlike any migas I have ever had before. That's not necessarily a positive or a negative comment, it just doesn't really seem appropriate to call it migas when there was nothing about it other than scrambled eggs that's similar to traditional migas. The flavor was really good and it had some zucchini and other vegetables in it but it was topped with so much cheese I had to push 80% of it off to the side to enjoy the dish.
Love the vibe, menu & music at Trace Service definitely lacking, became a little frustrating having to get our own water, ask someone to find waiter so we could order, etc Maybe one server for Sunday brunch Hopefully management can work on the service, it is our "go to" place :)
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary and had an absolutely wonderful experience. This is a go to restaurant for us because of my Celiac disease and accompanying food allergies. I made a reservation and outlined my dietary needs. The wait staff and Kitchen had read the note and when we arrived had a couple options that the chef could prepare for me that met my needs. It was wonderful to have a real restaurant experience. It made our anniversary all the more special.
Love Trace. This time, for lunch, I tried the Grilled Kale salad. While the flavors were wonderful, the kale, which was left in large pieces, was IMPOSSIBLE to cut - even with a sharp knife! And it was also very difficult to chew. I was very tasty and looked beautiful... but way too much work - especially during a business lunch! I would suggest the kitchen chop the grilled Kale before serving.
Went before a concert at The Moody Theater/ ACL. Not only is it right next to the Moody Theater, it is a nice blend of inside / outside seating. We sat inside on one of the cool moon shaped high back bench/chairs.
Service was good. I was impressed that the server noticed we ordered only one entree and split it into two plates. Nice touch!
The ambience for two people was excellent.
The food was good - it felt like it was more about presentation than quantity (not necessarily a bad thing). Hangar Steak, Tiger Bread and the Tomato "salad". It was an enjoyable evening and would come back again.
