We had a great experience at Trace! Our server was wonderful and the food was excellent. My filet was cooked perfectly. We frequent a lot of downtown Pittsburgh steakhouses and Trace was just as good as those. We will definitely be back!

I’m going to make this short as short as I can without leaving out context. We had 9PM reservations. Received a text at 8:51PM that our table was ready. We were on time for our reservation and were made aware that “the menu might be abbreviated” due to the recent thunderstorm that rolled through (the lodge was on emergency power). We agreed to the terms and were seated at the bar. All staff were congregating behind the bar and we received the most unwelcome glare. I questioned what I had done wrong here. Bottom line the restaurant wanted to close. All staff walked away to “discuss” then came back and told us that they could not fire up the grills due to the power outage - the stoves are propane. They offered us a slice of bread and fruit “to-go.” Another gentleman asked for chilled shrimp - could not accommodate. We will not be giving Trace a second chance.

Thank you for your feedback. Due to the flash flood-related power outage, our hotel was on backup generator which prioritizes life safety systems. Without full power our kitchen’s hood system was inoperable—making it unsafe and against fire code to cook, even with natural gas equipment. While we initially hoped to offer a limited menu, additional electrical systems not supported by generator were failing and we quickly realized we couldn’t safely prepare food. I’m sorry for the confusion and the impression left by our team; you deserved better. We regret missing the chance to serve you properly and hope you’ll consider visiting again under better circumstances. We will use this experience to better prepare our team to deliver improved service during future weather-related disruptions.

Trace exceeded expectations. We got Michelin star quality food, presentation, and service at a reasonable price in a stunning setting. Worth the trip.

Great food and atmosphere. We go to Oglebay once a year over Memorial day and look forward to the Saturday night dinner at Trace. My wifes dtesk was done tomprrfection and my seafood trio was delicious. We must remember to order only two side dishes the three we ordered was too much that we did not have room for desert. Our waiter was excellent and was very attentive tomour needs. Already looking forward to next Memorial day weekend and our dinner st Trace
