It was a nice experience. The food is really good but it is way too expensive. You always need at least one side order of vegetables with your fish which brings the main course to at least $45. Dessert are so small that you cannot really share them. It’s too bad because it is a nice location in Lexington which creates an alternative to Il Casale but really it is too expensive for what it is. The ceiling lighting should be changed to side lamps in order to create a cozier atmosphere like the one you would expect in an old inn.
Bottom line up front: It could be better. Menu is not super creative and it doesn’t appear to be a well-oiled machine. However, the ambience makes up for all of that. It’s a beautiful restaurant and great for taking out of town guests that are looking for New England charm. As long as it remains “decent” I’ll keep going back. But the potential is enormous.
Terrible experience. Over-priced for mediocre quality and service. In particular the note below on the menu is very vague.
"For your convenience, a food and beverage administrative fee of 18% will be placed on your check to compensate our service team. This fee is not a tip, gratuity or service charge"
After spending over $300 for a dinner for 3 for an over-priced unsatisfying meal, we realized we had grossly over-tipped given the statement below. The word "for your convenience" is ridiculous.
Are you kidding???? Felt grossly ripped off!!
We love "Artistry on The Green" and we were regular customers but this time I was very disappointed and frustrated with this dinner experience. Now "Town Meeting" has a new menu; I am not sure if the Chef is different but nothing tastes like before. We are really disappointed with food. Simple dishes such as soups and salads were not what they should be. We had to send back New England Clam Chowder, it was nothing like a New England Clam Chowder. We could hardly find any greens in our salads. Carrot salad was recommended, it was a good dish but the portion was so small it should have been on the appetizers section not on salads. Portions are now super small with outrages pricing.
This pleasant room now has a less formal menu, yet it's varied enough to suit all tastes.
Was disappointed that there were no pancakes available which is why I took my daughter there in the first place. The menu on OpenTable said they had pancakes, but turned out they didn’t.
This was our first visit to Town Meeting Bistro although we had been a number of times to Artistry on the Green. I want also to note that, prior to writing this review, I emailed the restaurant to ask for their comments and an explanation. If they had responded, I likely would not be posting this.
The food was fine, and the service was lovely. Our issue is with something called "an administrative charge" of 18% that is added to the bill. In small font, it notes that this is not a tip, and several staff told us that they receive 55% of this charge. I suspect that many people do not leave a tip in addition to this extra 18%, so that the wait staff is making less.
We are widely traveled, and have never, on any continent, seen this charge. I strongly feel that, if necessary, they should just raise their prices to reflect the truth that everything actually costs 18% more than listed on the menu. Instead, it felt like a creative way to increase their income. We will not return.
The gratuity was added in and we were not made aware of this by our server.
Portions were small and expensive
It was a lovely evening with good food and great friends. The service was impeccable, friendly and knowledgeable. The food ingredients were fresh and savory although the preparation did not possess enough kitchen 'magic'
Lovely place for a special occasion or dinner.
The food was so flavorfull and cooked perfectly. One of my friends' burger was cold and dry but everyone else absolutely enjoyed their burguers. I had Salmon and it was delicious.
We were taking a friend out to lunch, and we all had wonderful food. Especially terrific was the spicy peach sorbet we shared for dessert. I was delighted to see that the place is accessible, although no one in this party needed the elevator this time; it creates a new option for other dinners and lunch.
The food was very good, however the size of the portion was disappointing. I understand that lunch menu the portions are smaller, I ordered steak and fries and the size of the steak would not even be enough for my 5 years old. I hope they realize that, if they fix this the restaurant would be one of the best in the area by far.
Great space and friendly service. Food was good but my almond milk was sour.
We loved the decor, it had modern updated features while maintaining the colonial roots of Lexington.
The family celebrated a birthday. The food was excellent.
Happy Belated Birthday Karl. Thank you for your five-star review! Warm regards, Christine Smith General Manager
Wonderful stay at your beautiful Inn. Thanks
Thank you Barb for your five-star review! Warm regards, Christine Smith General Manager
The dining room is very charming - very New England - and inviting. The service was very attentive and friendly, even to the kids. The food was ambitious and really nicely presented. It was a lovely meal.
Thank you for your kind comments about Town Meeting Bistro. Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
Sunday brunch was outstanding and service was impeccable. Love the price fixed menu.
Thank you for your five-star review Bob! Delighted you enjoyed brunch. Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
The food was fine, but nothing special considering the price. The cocktails were not very flavorful.
Such a lovely venue for a quiet lunch with friends.
Dear RLB1, Thank you for your five-star review! We look forward to the pleasure of serving you again for lunch. Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
It has really slipped, a shame... earlier this year they had their best chef yet , I don’t know what happened but we went last week and the food was not well seasoned and the presentation was sloppy. The service was at a snail ‘s pace with the kitchen apparently backed up , perhaps they were inadequately prepared for Restaurant Week. The servers are among the best trained in the area... a delight...the single bright spot of the night. I hate to give this place a poor review but they have to do better... and they have in the past. It is not an inexpensive meal.
Dear PrettyPickyBoston, We’re glad that you find our team among the best trained in the area. We will share your comments with our culinary team in an effort to improve in the future. We hope we have the opportunity to serve you again and regain your trust. Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
We had a wonderful evening at Town Meeting. The food was delicious and creative. Our cocktails were unique and strong [just the way we wanted]. The service was outstanding; from the gentleman at the front door of the inn who escorted us to the restaurant, to the hostess who offered to hang our coats, to our waiter who described each of the items we enjoyed in poetic detail, to the gentleman who brought us more homemade rolls. We cannot wait to return!
Dear Ellie, Thank you for your five-star review and recommendation. We're delighted you enjoyed your experience and we look forward to your return. Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
A little less good than a year ago but still an attractive option for a quiet well-prepared meal. Prices have significantly increased. Variety in menu ok but less impressive than formerly.
Dear lowkeygourmet, Thank you for your review and your comments. Sincerely, Christine Smith, General Manager
Dear Misha, Thank you for your five-star review! Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
Food is delicious and the service is first rate! Lovely place to have breakfast with near friends in a Saturday morning.
Dear Mary, Thank you for your five-star review! We look forward to serving you again. Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
Food A plus ( soups chowder and corn soup highlights)
However Service slow, distracted , setting tables while guest waiting for check, stood long time waiting for table to be sat down, was awkward but everybody was kind and nice just not very experienced servers
We had a very pleasant dinner on quiet summer evening when there was only one other couple present in the dining room. (So, naturally, the noise level was very low.) We very much enjoy small portions and do not like restaurants that serve large portions. On the other hand, Town Meeting goes a little too far the other way, with portions so small that one is still hungry in the end. Would recommend that the portions be increased by around 30%.
Dear Kerry, Thank you for your feedback. We will share it with our team in an effort to improve in the future. Best regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
Love this place! Consistently good food for years!
Dear SomervilleStrong, We love that you love our restaurant. Thank you for your five-star review! Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
The food was exceptionally good with a beautiful presentation. The ingredients used were truly fresh and the combination of flavors made it an unforgettable experience.
Thank you for your five-star review Tibor. We appreciate your comments about the presentation and fresh ingredients. Thank you again. Best regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
I don’t live in MA, but come to the area frequently for work. Artistry on the green has been a favorite of mine for years and i always come for the lobster Cobb. This time, once i realized the name had changed and got the background from the server i got the lobster Cobb. It was not the same. The presentation was different, it seemed like the ingredients were not exactly the same, and the lettuce was brown. Maybe this is just a growing pain with the transition, so i will definitely give it another shot and hope it is the same place i always enjoyed.
Thank you for your loyalty. We look forward to serving you again and exceed your expectations next time. Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
If you can afford it then wholly recommended. Not for the feint of wallet.
Thank you for your five-star review Nick. Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
I very much enjoy this restaurant. The food is an absolute delight and you should not miss out on dessert. Their Sunday Brunches are also quite good. Services is friendly and knowledgeable. There are two reasons I have given this a four star rating : (i) the wine list is extremely limited; and (ii) there really are not enough appetizer offerings (e.g. cheese plate to be shared). The wine list is a short affair with minimal Wine Spectator rated items. We also had a mistake with the vintage. The menu reflected a 2016 and a 2017 was brought instead. This can make a world of impact on the taste. We were advised that they are working with a new wine consultant who will hopefully expand the list. Appetizers are also limited. They could use a few shareables like a nice cheese and charcuterie platter or a few other "for two" types of offerings. Overall, the experience is excellent, the food thoughtfully and carefully prepared (with beautiful presentation) and there is an excellent atmosphere. I highly recommend.
Thank you Kristen for your positive review and comments. Please know that our director of wine is working to improve the wine list. We also thank you for your loyalty and repeat business. We look forward to serving you again. Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
It is a joy and relief to dine in an atmosphere where you can truly enjoy your dinner companions and converse. We had a wonderful time.
The meal was superb. The chef has perfected a French style of simple accompanying sauces/purees, using simple fresh ingredients.
Our waiter, Dipendra, was exemplary. He takes care of you and your dining experience; he is there when you want him to be and not when you don't. Seamless. Wonderful.
The establishment deserves to be praised, but I'm not thrilled telling you all about it … I like it how it is.
Dear Nancy, Thank you for your five-star review. We will share your kind words with Dipendra and our entire team. Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
We were there for the Sunday buffet brunch. The buffet items were very good. We took advantage of the all you can eat oysters, jumbo shrimp, charcuterie, and cheeses. For the plated main course, we chose the eggs benedict and the toasted pecan pancakes which were both delicious.
Thank you Michelle. We're glad that you enjoyed your experience.
My boyfriend and I enjoyed a wonderful birthday dinner here. The staff was wonderful, attentive and the ambiance was really beautiful. The food was divine and we enjoyed the evening.
Thank you for your five-star review, and a warm belated happy birthday. We look forward to serving you again. Best regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
The restaurant is in a beautiful classic building with classic decor. Our waiter was attentive and professional. The support staff (water and busing) seemed a bit out of step, but did a good job. The atmosphere was somewhat dull and geriatric with the soft classical music. As is true with many restaurants of this kind, I suspect the regular bartender was not there for the lunch service because our special cocktails were sickly sweet and weak on the alcohol. My husbands steak frite was quite good, but the chimichurri condiment was very strange; basically a lot of minced garlic and very little herb in an orange colored oil. I chose the lobster Cobb salad because of the photo on the web site and was taken aback when it arrived; it looked nothing like it. The photo showed a perfectly presented array of ingredients laying side by side on a bed of lettuce. What I got was a bowl of lettuce with the ingredients hiding underneath and it seemed like everything had been tossed in dressing rather than a drizzle over top. The lobster tasted canned, but hard to tell with all The vinaigrette coating it. Overall it tasted OK, but the presentation was sloppy. Don’t put a beautiful photo on your web site if it’s not going to look like it. Once again, the service was very good if at times a tad awkward, but this place could be top notch with a few tweaks. It’s teetering on not deserving the Relais and Chateaux designation, but since the Inns accommodations easily meet the R & C standard, I hope the restaurant can bring it up just a notch.
Dear Sandi, We’re glad to see that you enjoyed the setting and found the waiter attentive. We’re sorry that the culinary and beverage experience didn’t meet your expectations, and we will share your comments with the team in an effort to improve in the future. Best regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
We always enjoy the bright room and intimate setting. Service is very friendly.
Dear Foodie2, Thank you for your five-star review and nice comments about our friendly service and atmosphere. Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
Excellent food, excellent service, excellent ambiance
This was an amazing dining experience.
The Inn was fabulous
Dear Jeff, Thank you for your five-star review of Artistry on the Green. We're delighted you enjoyed the service, ambiance and food. We look forward to serving you again. Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manage
Artistry on the Green is a lovely addition to the suburban dining scene however there are some minimal tweaks that could be made. We had early reservations on a Wednesday evening so dining room noise was not an issue when we arrived. By the time we left at 7:30 the noise was starting to ramp up considerably. As a rule I do not like to critique food due to the diversity of an individuals preferences but I will call out glaring deficiencies. Our group of four all enjoyed their appetizers. The entrees,I did not think, lived up to the aspirational menu. I ordered medium rare beef and it was well to medium well and the texture of the beef reflected that. In all fairness all plates were empty at the end. The kitchen seems to be heavy handed in the salt department. One of my favorite restaurants puts a trio of finishing salts on every table at start of service. It’s a wonderful way to add the amount of saltiness desired and experience something different at the same time. Portions are very small and if appetizers and desserts are not your thing you will definitely leave hungry. The full number of courses will definitely be more than enough though.
The decor is very calming but the chairs are painful after an hour. The tables without cloths made for a sticky surface due to summer humidity. Service was very good when we arrived but as the restaurant filled it seemed to be understaffed and very hurried. As I mentioned earlier, these are minor tweaks but if a restaurant’s goal is 5 stars everything must be perfect.
This restaurant deserves to succeed, flourish and fulfill its desired niche.
Dear Eileen, Thank you for your kind thoughts about Artistry on the Green. We will share your comments and observations with our team, so that we can improve in the future. Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manage
Vastly overpriced. Roasted broccoli was steamed, and cheddar, listed on the menu, was nowhere in evidence. The risotto was mushy. Service was spotty, with extremely late delivery of the salads and desert forgotten altogether. An altogether dispiriting experience.
Dear Chef, We’re sorry that we fell short of your expectations during your recent visit to Artistry on the Green. We’ll share your comments with the team so that we can improve. Warm regards, Christine Smith, General Manager
