Cooking food closest to his heart has earned him rave reviews including James Beard nominations in 2014, 2015 and a finalist in 2016 and 2019.
Biscuits and salads were the best part of the meal, and that should not be the case for this type of spot. Diners complained that the red fish was both blackened and overspicy. My grilled octopus over grits did not need so much roux, and just was not very interesting in spite of the big tentacles. biggest disappointment was their version of a julep that had waaaaay to much shaved ice (trying to be a snoball?) but instead gave me little sense of an alcoholic drink. I had to take the ice out for any enjoyment. Poorly conceived.
Birthday! It was perfect! Food was amazing.
Great food and service.
Really creative menu and the food wasn’t bad just didn’t quite reach the level we’d expect from the descriptions and the price. In any smaller city this would be a great restaurant, in New Orleans it’s just ok
I had the Sept special- shrimp and grits with the vegetable salad, and my spouse had the French dip. He said his sandwich was good, not great, and the onion rings were too salty to even eat. My vegetable salad was a strange mix of lettuce, black eyed peas, cold fried okra and peaches with no discernible dressing or spices. Not good. I got three shrimp with my grits - really?? Just three! Also too salty for my taste. We were two of six people dining so meal should have been better!!!
Great place. Cooked a dish not on the menu for me. Everything was great! Food, top notch. Only downside was maybe a little pricey. No complaints.
Fantastic and creative menu and delivers with taste & presentation WOW
We had the fixed price, three course dinner. Delicious and a really good value.
As a local who dines out very often, I put this restaurant in 1st place for quality of the meal, with both creative and traditional South La dishes. The flavors are intense using fresh, local ingredients.
Counter seating offers a great view of the kitchen. Well curated wine selection & perfect cocktails.
It's not a formal, polished silver place but it's impressive and fun, and you will have a meal as good or better than anywhere else in this restaurant-obsessed city. You can likely get a table so do not stand in line somewhere else!
This was my first visit and I was blown away ! The restaurant is spacious and beautiful. The pace of service was perfect while my friend and I chatted away. We were never rushed nor waiting. The food was delicious and definitely had a kick to it. I had a wonderful time !
I felt and my mom felt that the broccoli Cesar chicken dish was a little salty. The service slowed down due to there only be one wait staff person. She was very pleasant but she had to buss the tables, clean the tables, take the orders, serve the food, make the drinks.
The vichyssoise with the coolinary brunch was honestly the best chilled soup I have had all summer (I love chilled soup!). Not a single bad course. Really good service and it was not crowded at all on Saturday around opening.
Always an amazing dinning experience. We like to sit at the "Chef's Counter". Food was delicious as always. Wine, cocktails and dessert was sublime. The banana pudding dessert was ridiculously good. Been here several times. And there is a reason why!
My date and I had everything from the Coolinary menu and it was all delicious and a great value. The regular menu was a little pricey but I'm sure the quality and taste could have made up for it since the Coolinary menu was so good. The service was a little relaxed but I enjoyed that they weren't pushy. Sitting at the counter was an interesting experience. I would recommend this place to a friend for a nice dinner out!
some Coolinary options were a little too heavy and rich for summer but great flavors
Service wonderful, food excellent. Will return many times.
We went to Toups South with a group of 8. Sat at our table right away by the efficient and courteous staff. Drinks came out quick followed by some apps recommended by our server.
The food was delicious and we enjoyed the space of the restaurant.
Definitely recommend and will return.
Excellent food, beautifull, tastefull. The fixed menu was really good and good value for money.
Skilled chef 👌🏼
The Brunch blew me out of the water! Was incredibly flavorful and the brunch menu paired together beautifully. See y'all next Sunday!
Love the food and experience.
Great food and service.
DELICIOUS FOOD, SUPER MANAGER/WAITER THEA. COOL UPDATED WAREHOUSE AMBIANCE. DIRECT INTERIOR ENTRANCE TO SOUTHERN FOOD MUSEUM SO MIGHT BE FUN TO VISIT BOTH.
ON-STREET PARKING AVAILABLE RIGHT OUT FRONT. NEIGHBORHOOD NOT YET GENTRIFIED BUT FOR THESE TWO PLACES. WE PLAN TO RETURN THIS WEEKEND.
My husband and I sat at the counter for brunch. The service was great! The food was amazing! We had the market vegetable plate (which changes) but ours consisted of fresh peaches, heirloom tomatoes, radishes, feta cheese, and olive oil. I could have had three servings! It was so good. For my entree I had the fried chicken sandwich. It was out of this world. When we visit New Orleans again we will definitely be back.
Great experience from start to finish. Server was extremely helpful and had very good recommendations.
Sit at the counter and watch the magic! The food is delicious, but the show is the best!
I took my husband to Toups South for father's day. Our appetizers were delicious but we each ordered the steak for our entrée. The steak was ENTIRELY fat. I appreciate some marbling, but the streak was small, all fat and unseasoned. I normally trim the fat off my steak. Doing so left me with no more than 2oz of meat. I was very disappointed especially considering that each steak was $50.
Staff was courteous and food was elegant and comforting. Their small plates were very large! (Big plus) Cocktails were made perfect every time. I wish there was a spice warning on certain dishes. Also, the music wasn't loud enough. They have a very industrial, hip place and it was somber the night we ate there.
If you are looking for a place that is away from all the hustle and bustle of Bourbon Street, look no further. We came here for a Bachelorette Party Dinner and had a great time. The menu is seasonal and changes constantly but it was all so delicious. We were all able to get different items without all getting the same thing. The wait staff was super attentive and nice and they were like that with all the tables. It was a quiet atmosphere so we didn't have to yell across the table, which is great!
Creative menu resulting in fabulous tasting food. We enjoyed every dish! Would definitely go back!
My stack of pork chops looked burned or the oil to fry them in was old. Could have been that they were fried too long...tasted good. Service was slow since there was only 1 waiter for entire restaurant. He not only serviced tables but served as bar tender as well.
Amazing food. Wonderful waiter. Great environment to roam around the Southern Food Museum.
This was our first time to a Toups restaurant and weren't sure what to expect. The atmosphere was great from the country music to the very friendly staff. Our waitress was very informative and was always there when we needed her. I enjoyed being able to watch the Chef and staff at work. The food was very good although wasn't sure what to expect from Cajun Pork Chops. Thank you all for a very good experience.
Wish we had reserved the kitchen bar. Top notch from a distance. Beautiful and tasty food. Steak YUM. Rillettes perfect. Beautiful space.
The ambiance and service are excellent but the food takes first place by far. One of the best meals I have ever had.
My hamburger, ordered “medium,” was cooked on top but raw underneath - just prepared too quickly. I left much of it on the plate. Should have sent it back. But, with a 2:45pm reservation, staff were rushing to get us served before the kitchen closed, which I didn’t realize. My brother-in-law’s chicken sandwich was nice. I think the original Toups on Carrollton Ave. has a larger menu and I would like to experience a meal there.
Go with atleast 4 people and do everything family style especially the pork chops!
I loved the biscuits with crab fat butter but was very disappointed with the fried chicken sandwich. The menu didn’t mention the sauce that smothered the chicken and bottom half of the bun and ruined my expectations. It would be better if that Info were included in the menu description or the sauce was simply put on the side.
We were a large party and they handled us very well-great service and got the drinks and food orders correct for all 16 of us. Appetizers were all good and we were happy with our main courses. Little quibble on how the food came out on some of the orders versus how it was described but overall it was a hit. I've been to the other restaurant and would recommend it as well.
