Excellent food and atmosphere, and truly outstanding service by our server Carlos.
I ordered 4 bottles of wine before they had one in stock
Food st best average ... octopus was nice but beef tough as a boot
Go to Etoile ... much better
I had high hopes for dinner at Toulouse after a Sunday theater matinee. I enjoy French cuisine very much. It was disappointing to say the least. We were seated on the patio on a beautiful late afternoon with menus provided. When the young woman server came to take our order, she continued to converse with a fellow server, paying half attention to what we were ordering. One of my companions asked if she could eliminate the fish from the bouillabaisse. Yes was the answer. The dish came with the fish. A manager came over to rectify it, but no surprises considering. The calamari was tough and my escargot were good, but drowning in some sort of herb. Twice I had to ask for another small baguette to sop up the garlic butter. My entree was the veal. It was not as tender as it should have been. The sides were fine. The chicken entree was fine and the bouillabaisse when it was served for the second time was loaded with saffron. You like it or not. Desserts were the best part of the meal. Gelato, Napoleon and Profiteroles all beautiful and delicious. I would not recommend this. The service wasn’t up to par, not was the food.
Outstanding food, our waitress was great, loved the ambiance - very French feeling but a little loud. And wish the tv wasn’t there....basketball at dinner isn’t so French
I can't say enough about the great food here. Been here several times and never disappoints! Beef bourguignon is as good as anything I've had in France
A French Brasserie in Houston - and I mean it in every way: great food, great wine, and relaxed atmosphere.
Easy and enjoyable.
Service and food excellent as always! Still never have enough room left for dessert!!
Love the place. The ambiance was great and the food excellent. The Salmon and the fish of the day were perfectly prepared.
Made a reservation to make sure we didn’t have to wait. Were seated immediately.
Service was prompt and friendly. Food was outstanding as always!
Best eggs benedict in town, as was the French toast. The restaurant is so enjoyable and the patio on a sunny day cannot be beat! Excellent service as well
Wine list by the glass is very poor for a french brasserie. Service was fast but not super organized. Food is good but nothing special. Go for the river oaks atmosphere but don’t expect the best meal ever.
Food was not impressive for that type of ambiance. Patio is worth visiting again. Had to ask for water several of times. Aked for seasoned potatoes instead of fries amd they brought out a skinned potatoes that was not even fully cooked. Drink was below average. Guess I should have gone with wine since everyone else had that on their table. Ordered the curry chicken. Bland. Salmon salad. Uggh. Salmon cakes.. Not worth it. Music was great. Live Djs make a different. The request of the dessert plate with special writing was on point. Inexpensive for only $100 for the dinner but I would still expect more tasteful food.
Amazing first time visit to this gem of a bistro! Carlos was an excellent waiter and we loved every single thing we ordered. The soufflé was just ok.
The food was very good but the wine list by the glass is expensive.
Great food and excellent service!! Tried the French Onion Soup, Escargot & Frog Legs for appetizers. All were excellent. Main course was Beef Bourguignon with carrots and my husband ordered the veal scallopini. My beef could’ve been a bit more tender, but the flavor was classic. The veal was very tender & flavorful. Puréed potatoes & carpaccio beets were equally as good. We ordered a Bouillabaisse to go and I can’t wait to taste it. The smell of saffron & seafood driving home was amazing. Dessert, wow!! I would go to Toulouse just to eat dessert. We tried the Profiteroles filled with pistachio ice cream topped with chocolate sauce, a Grand Marnier & chocolate soufflé. Fantastic!!! Irma was our server & she topped off our meal. Excellent!! A bit pricy, but the portions will yield two more meals. I would recommend this restaurant.
Fun evening with a friend from out of town. Food was excellent as was the wine. Although the night was chilly, we sat on the patio near the heaters and were very comfortable. Love the French ambiance.
Absolutely delicious as always, we love the authentic menu! Great experience.
Carlos our waiter is always fantastic! Extremely helpful with the gluten free options!
We just had a quick lunch and everything was delicious!
Easter Sunday Brunch/Late Lunch... Food was delicious, drinks excellent and ambiance perfect for the day. However, Our only complaint would be the service; They seemed under-staffed & overwhelmed.
Excelente platillos los postres son espectaculares
I just moved into the apartments at River Oaks District, and some might suspect it's because my balcony now overlooks my favorite restaurant in Houston :) Took advantage of another "1/2-price bottle of French wine night" with a friend and enjoyed an evening catching up over delicious cheese, octopus, and salads. Everything was delicious as always.
It is one of the hottest places in Houston. You will feel Luke you have traveled across the globe!
Mediocre versions of classic French dishes
We sat outside and it was a beautiful evening, It was very pleasant all around.
El mesero no puso mucha atención en nuestra mesa. Andaba muy distraido
Perfect for a fun ambiance, especially on a nice day because the windows/doors open to the outdoor seating. Our group enjoyed the burgers, duck, and chicken for dinner - good portions and all very tasty. Complementary bread is served before dinner. We celebrated a birthday so the restaurant provided a free dessert, complete with a sparkler which made the occasion memorable. Would definitely recommend for a fun ladies-lunch or night out; or for a romantic date/anniversary dinner. Because of the River Oaks District location, there is great people watching and free parking close by in the garage. A few parking spots on the street.
Food was very good ( special of the day) or good. Service was a bit patchy but ok. Good location especially the covered patio. With bottle of wine we paid close to $200 per couple ( including shared starters and desserts)
Once again nothing but a beautiful experience. Fantastic food, not too loud and great service. Love to come here,
We celebrated a friends birthday and enjoyed the food, service and ambiance very much. No complaints just fantastic.
Great place to date particularly given the nearby mall. The food is good. A bit loud but fine if not too many people. The crispy duck is awesome and I recommended.
Our experience was much better this time for Sunday brunch than last time. Service was prompt and wait staff were more attentive, even though the restaurant had more customers this time. The almond croissant and quiche Lorraine I had were delicious, as was the latte and orange juice. My husband loved his smoked salmon benedict. The outdoor patio is very pleasant. The only detractor from a relaxing experience was a grounds keeper using a very large blower nearby, which should only be allowed by the property owner (apartments?) much earlier in the morning, not at a prime brunch time between 11 and 12 on a Sunday, but this was not the restaurant's fault.
Great food, great service - too loud!
Toulouse has a very extensive menu of traditional French dishes. Our food was good and the service was very attentive. The prices are high for everyday dining so not a place I will visit frequently.
The ambiance was great and the overall the noise level was comfortable. While my starter (crispy calamari), which I shared with my date, was delicious, it was a very large portion which meant I struggled to fully enjoy my main course. I had the filet au poivre as my main course. It was cooked just as I wanted (medium rare) but was slightly over-seasoned. It was served with great tasting fries. My date had the beef bourguigon, which according to her, was also very good. Overall, I would recommend the restaurant and would definitely give it another try.
While the service was good there were too many issues that will make consider other places in the future instead.
The food was mediocre at best. Onion soup, a super simple dish, was probably the worst I've ever had. The overuse of thickening agent and underuse of seasonings left it bland and there was not nearly enough cheese (that wasn't even gruyere). Duck confit still had fat under the skin, lentils were overcooked and mushy, gravy was too sweet... My fellow diners were not impressed with their meals neither.
The place tries, somewhat successfully, to look like a real French restaurant but the effect was entirely spoiled by tacky club-y music that was blasting way too loud when we got there. It got turned down when we requested but it was still wrong for a dining establishment that attempts to be classy.
On the other hand, the service was great, our waiter was attentive and accommodating. I think if I come back in the future it will be just for a glass of wine and bread with butter (proper nice baguette) but I will avoid disappointment by not ordering anything on the menu.
Toulouse never fails to deliver on food and service. It’s loud but that’s perfect when you have a 14-month-old.
A bit pricey but the experience was very enjoyable. We'll be back!
