Was pleasantly surprised to find Toscana on a recent visit to the Daytona area. Living in San Francisco, my expectations of restaurants are high. However, Chef Tony and his wife Kathy completely blew my mind with their impeccably created daily menu, amazing service and overall five star experience. The food and service was so good I brought the family back for a second visit the same week. The wine list is very well thought out and as with any great restaurant, I strongly suggest turning everything over (menu, wine) to the chef. His on the fly creations and wine pairings were superb. I can not recommend Toscana enough. I will happily return just to dine with them.
The food dining and atmosphere was impeccable at Toscana. Im sad that we only found it now. My husband and I went for our 11th anniversary and this was by far the best dinner we have ever had in this type of atmosphere/environment for the occasion . The Chef was very friendly and knowledgeable and made the evening delightful. I would highly recommend the rack of lamb and fettuccini bolagnase. Perfect for date night .
Visting in town and made reservations for my husband's birthday because they advertised bananas foster for dessert!. Food was good and service was very attentive- considering we were the only table there! The dessert was made tableside and was very good, but surprised by the expense! (No prices were shown for dessert menu) I was also surprised there was not more of a crowd for dinner.
This is one of, if not the best, restaurant in Ormond Beach. The food is handcrafted and it shows. Even the mozzarella is made in-house (burratina). The bread is fantastic. The service is impeccable. Always feel more family than customer there. Quiet, pleasant surroundings - never rushed. If they offer the Branzino fresh...get it. Always a great idea to order one of their pasta dishes and split it between two people...then move on to a meat or fish dish.
Service and atmosphere were wonderful however the menu was very disappointing...the menu that was available on our visit was not the menu posted on Open Table or the restaurant's website...the summer menu had a limited number of options...additionally we were informed by the chef that there were no shrimp or snapper dishes available that evening which limited our choices even more...although the food was fine, it was a disappointing visit
This was our second time dining here. The food is excellent and the chef welcomes you as if you are a welcome guest in his home. The chef prepared caesar salad tableside, which was unlike any caesar salad I've ever had. The balance of flavors was perfect -- including hand chopped anchovies -- and it was not the least bit gloppy like so many caesar salads can be. The chef asked us if we had questions about the menu and was happy to make recommendations. Two of us had the veal entree, which was tender and perfectly seasoned and cooked. One of us had the filet which was also perfectly cooked and elevated by a very tasty barolo reduction. I also appreciate that small sides of whipped potatoes and vegetables were included with the entree, making a complete well-sized meal rather than a litany of oversized add on dishes to have something other than a protein. We ended the evening with tableside bananas foster -- so old school, but still so good. The atmosphere is a throwback in time to a traditional Italian restaurant. Of note is an elevator to the second floor for those who can't use the stairs. We called ahead to make sure it was working for my mother who uses a walker.
I'd definitely go back and recommend this restaurant. The chef was very interactive and friendly, the food was very good. A restaurant where you can hear your friends across the table (what a nice change!) They offered pasta with octopus (which I've never seen in Florida). I've only had this once when in Spain. No, it wasn't as wonderful as Spain, which I didn't expect. But it was a very good meal. I ate every bite. I loved that he offered different dishes than the norm. Our guest is still talking about the awesome lamb chops.
This was our second visit to Toscana and we had a wonderful evening with another couple, who were excited to try a new restaurant. The staff did not disappoint. It was a quiet night (Monday) and we had a wonderful spot for good food, good conversation and excellent service. A big treat was the table-side preparation of the fresh catch which had been specially treated with salt. The fish was delicious as were the other entrees, salads and desserts. The staff were fantastic and we enjoyed meeting the owners who oversaw the whole evening.
It is also nice to relax in a lovely restaurant and not feel rushed-very European. We highly recommend Toscana.
We received the best service we have ever had during our dinner at the Toscana! The owner himself attended our table by the terrace. The presentation was great and portions were perfect to satisfy our want. The menu has a variety of options to please anyone's palate. Great ambiance!
Tony, the chef, is a very talented and friendly guy. His filet mignon, veal chop, and rack of lamb were all excellent choices. However, the veal scaloppini was tough and bland, so Tony replaced it with a selection of filet mignon. The night we attended, the service was great, but it was a night with few guests. I suspect on busy nights, the kitchen might be slow because Tony cooks from scratch with great care. If you're looking for an upscale restaurant for special occasions, then Toscana is a very good place.
We will never return and will let others know the horrible experience we had. First, had to wait 30 minutes standing waiting for a table when we had a reservation. Waitress did not acknowledge us for 20 minutes after sitting until we asked for bread. Co-workers were arguing with each other and workers were using bad language. Our main meal was brought out before our appetizer. This restaurant charges for soda refills. Waitress made changes to our ticket after she had our credit card and never mentioned the additional charges. We were there for Valentines Day and the menu was very limited, two items to choose from for main entree which were exactly the same plate except for the protein. Very pricey!!!!

Restaurant not yet busy. Although full menu was on line we were presented with a prix fixe menu Waiter disappeared-we waited 10 min. took drink order, delivered 2 beers, only cool, warm glasses-did not pour either-this is a miss. Asked 1st server if pears on salad were fresh or canned. He remarked fresh and marinated. They were fresh and poached. Salad of arugula, poached pears, goat cheese, candied walnuts and vinaigrette --arugula fresh and crisp, goat cheese nicely mild, pears excellent.sliced almonds replaced walnuts. Vinaigrette was not balanced and caught in our throats.3 warm slices of bread arrived 15 minutes after salad. Butter frozen and could not be applied to bread . Ordered 2 more beers and first server once again did not pour. Dessert was slim slice of a light, lemon cream mousse type filling, with berries in a light crust. Chef could not name fruit in the dessert. Young woman in jeans, tee shirt and jacket escorting guests to tables.
Hostess dispatched another server with 2 cold beers and cold glasses who poured both. This is a plus Pasta course-2 tortellini in a saffron sauce. Creamy sauce with saffron threads and very nice flavor. 3 tortellini would have been nice. Waited for cheese and pepper which arrived while tortellini still warm. Our second server noted need for fresh utensils after the salad and pasta courses. Second server delivered the entree of red snapper filet, topped with some crab meat, over asparagus spears and mashed potatoes covered with a buerre blanc sauce. Each component was perfectly cooked and delicious.
Tipped 2nd waiter for his service. Left left nothing for 1st waiter. Saw some hints of good service, and pleasing food but this dinner and experience was not worth $75 ++per head or time. Based upon this experience I cannot recommend this restaurant.
The food was delicious, bread fresh from the oven. However, the portions were very, very small considering the price. I would expect to be able to get a side of pasta with all entrees, but no. The service was horrific. Three different people attempted to help us when our assigned waitress quite literally ignored us. The rudeness of the waitress was mirrored by dining guests who decided to use their iphone as a stereo for their own dining experience, leaving us to shout above their music. After several attempts to get them to turn it down by not only us but the management, we had to make a scene to get them to turn it off. I have been to Toscana before, so I was very surprised at the menu changes, portions and service. Very disappointing.
Didn't even get a menu for 40 minutes. Had to ask for bread. The food was tasty, but the portions were so ridiculously small that they wouldn't have satisfied a 5 year old. My wife ordered a shrimp dish as a main course that contained 2 medium sized shrimp. My main course of veal consisted of two very thin, tiny cutlets, an ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes, one piece of asparagus and 8 (I counted them) slices of squash. To boot, the place was very over priced. Definitely not worth it!
Do not waste your time. The place pretends to be upscale with regards to price but lacks all the service and accommodation that accompanies a 5 star restaurant.
My wife and I left on New Year's Eve at 8:30pm as our main dish (a $50 veal chop) came out raw. Not undercooked, but RAW. It was a joke.
Atleast the owner didn't charge us for the appetizer and glass of wine we consumed. But the overall experience was brutal. Won't return under any circumstance.
The service here is so slow - we think because the restaurant is severely understaffed. Also, they questioned our reservation at first and even tried to have us sit outside because they may not have a table for us...even after giving walk up customers ahead of us a table with no problem. We also feel as though we did not receive the best service because we were the youngest people in there..:.took forever to even get a class of water or a menu. The food was fairly good but not good enough to make up for the poor service.
My wife and I were celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary and I decided we would try Toscana out. I made reservations two weeks in advance. We arrived on time for our reservations and were directed to the bar while our table was prepared. It took 10 minutes for someone to show up and get us two glasses of wine. A group of four showed up after us, the owner came out and showed them right to a table. We asked why they were seated and we were already waiting 20 minutes for our table with a reservation - the hostess argued that we hadn't been there 20 minutes. Really? We arrived at 7:30pm and it was 7:53pm when we asked - 23 minutes to be exact. She never did answer us - instead she tried to sit us at the table next to the front door. I'm in a suit and my wife in a dress for our anniversary with reservations and they try to give us the worst table in the house. We finally get seated at a table that was empty from the time we walked in. When we asked why we weren't seated earlier, the same hostess said she wanted to give us time to enjoy our wine. She had an answer for everything. It took another 20 minutes to get waited on. Halfway through taking our order the waitress was interrupted by the owner who had a question on another table's bill. He pulled her away and she forgot about us. 10 minutes later I got up to get us another glass of wine from the bar. The hostess intercepted me and said that my waitress was getting us our wine - I said I don't think as she was taking a desert order from another table and hadn't returned to finish our order. The food FINALLY came after quite some time and was warm but not hot - parts were cold but we didn't want to wait more so we ate what we had. Our waitress never came back to see if we wanted desert or coffee so we just asked for our bill as she was rushing past us. The bill came to $209 with tip (not great tip). The Chart House was $175 with appetizers, coffee, desert, great service AND tip. Avoid Toscana!
We had a large group for New Years Eve. We were expecting to have a memorable evening, but that was not to happen. We arrived on time, were seated at a large round table, which was nice, because we could see and talk to each other. The waiter took our drink orders. Two people asked for Manhattans, which they delivered watered down and in Margarita glasses. The waiter spent most of his time reaching over people to give the next person their order. He had plenty of space to walk around the whole table, but he chose to reach accross people. We asked for another set of salt and pepper shakers, only to be told there weren't any more available. They are supposed to be known for their Cesar Salads, which were just okay. The interesting thing about the salad was its size for the price. It was very small and if you wanted anchovies it was $2.50 more which brought the salad to $15.00. One guest ordered a shrimp over pasta dish and was given a small bowl of pasta with 3 shrimp on top for $32.00. Needless to say I won't be recommending this place, and won't be returning. For goodness sake, what kind of fancy restaurant doesn't have extra S&P shakers.
Beautiful environment. Service was SLOW. We came at 6pm and immediately were served cocktails but it was 40 minutes later until our order was taken. Food was plated up quickly. Our friends who had the pasta thought the servings were teeny for $30+ dollars. My veal limone was fabulous and right sized for me. But I don't eat much, so my opinion was not the same as our guests.
Service was good but a little slow. Food was good but seemed pricey for the quantity. Had to send the water back because there appeared to be stuff floating in it. Had to send the cappuccino back because it was luke warm at best. The replacements were perfect as well as the creme brulee.
I was told regular menu for Christmas. Was a limited menu. Somewhat stuffy attitude but grateful for a restaurant open on Christmas. Food was OK. Not great bread for an Italian restaurant. The service was not as attentive as it could have been. Not the best Italian. It is a cute and comfy restaurant, but we will not return. We got some attitude, I believe because we don't drink wine and an extra $10 was added to our bill when we didn't get anything to justify it. Not happy with this tactic.
An excellent experience far above the average "Italian" restaurant. The red sauce was exceptional and every entrée was done to perfection. Homemade bread was the perfect accompaniment for the left over red sauce and the filet was so tender I described it as "creamy". Wonderful . . . we'll definitely be coming here again . . . hopefully soon!
