Toscana Ristorante Italiano Ratings and Reviews
Second time to this restaurant-again, one of the first places I went to when moving to the area. The place is small and intimate, but the noise level is high, so can be difficult to have a conversation. Our first experience was very good, and this was our second visit in about two years. Made a reservation, and based on the time available, I was really expecting a full restaurant, but when we arrived, there were certainly plenty of tables. The first person who came to our table was great, but when it came time to order drinks/wine and food we had a different server, not so great—seemed pompous.
My meal was very good—Caesar Salad and then had the Spaghetti Carbonara. My dining companion went with the Rock Shrimp Risotto. The Risotto was good and the arborio rice was cooked well, but they did a poor job of preparing the shrimp. My taste, very first bite, I had shells on the shrimp, and my dining companion had several bites that contained shells—not good. At first we brought it up to our server, who was somewhat unresponsive, not sure if he just didn’t know how to handle the situation. Eventually asked for a manger, who at first wasn’t helpful—I told him we will pay for meal but tell their chef about the shells. He did apologize, not charge us and gave us a piece of tiramisu with two forks — wow, but that was never the point. For the price, they need to make sure every dish they serve is prepared correctly. Three stars for the experience and price. Not sure if I would rush back to Toscana too fast.
Selection is limited, and flavor was slightly better than mediocre. Noise level was rather loud, which made conversation difficult. Space is tight and they would benefit from enclosing the outside seating during cold and hot weather and adjust it with heaters or fans, otherwise, it’s just wasted space.
Toscana came recommended by friends but we were very disappointed. The staff appeared chaotic and we waited an inordinate amount of time to be seated. Recognizing their mistake they comp the bar tab while waiting; but I didn't want free booze, I wanted service. Once seated the entrée was average at best. With all the fine restaurants in the Charlotte area, I'll add Toscana to my "DO NOT RETURN" list.
The fresh and beautiful Bronzino was cooked perfectly, stuffed with paper thin crisped potatoes and herbs. The vesl chop was huge, but again cooked perfectly, meat pounded to about an inch, breaded and pan fried. Server selected a perfect Italian wine to match both dishes. Wonderful food and service. Keep in mind, food truckers out slowly and noise level inside can be deafening, but patio is quiet and lovely. Great meal!
This is our favorite restaurant in Charlotte. We have been coming here for past 2 years, enjoying the authentic Italian cooking, good wine choices, friendly service and secluded outdoor patio with fountain, which is heavenly on a warm evening. Our only reservation would be the noise level inside the restaurant which is usually quite loud (as often full). Our tip: plan to eat outside - that way everything's perfect !
Used to be wonderful...not so any longer. Our waiter was pushy and overbearing. He actually pushed a menu an inch in front of one of our party's face. He reached across me to fill the water glass of the person next to me and actually had his arm on my face. Everyone who came to our table was directly on top of us - there was no concept of personal space. The food was so-so. The chicken parmesan was served as a slab on the plate - incredibly unappetizing. The bowl of parmesan cheese left at the table still had the plastic wrap on it. For these prices their patrons deserve beautifully prepared food, high level attention to details of the table, and service that is excellent but unobtrusive. Heading back to Luciano's!!!
Inside was on the smaller side and nice but the TV over the bar was a distraction from the overall ambiance. Their outside courtyard is nice for dining and wish we would have selected that. Food was good and my wife loved the bone-in veal chop. I will go back.
This was our first visit to Toscana in several years, after not having had a particularly memorable experience during our previous visit. The weather was quite pleasant, so we were able to enjoy outdoor dining in their lovely patio setting. Everything was fine except for the relatively high prices and relatively small portions. Dinner for two with only two glasses of wine and two main courses came to more than $100.
We went here again for our first anniversary because the manager treated us so well on our wedding night. The server made sure that we had the wine selection that I wanted for the price point that was good for us. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant to others that want to have great Italian food for a not so expensive price.
Had not been in a while due to travels and schedule; it never misses the bar -- food and service were outstanding! We did sit outside as the noise level can be high inside at times if you are trying to catch up with a larger crowd while dining. See you soon!
The restaurant is in a nice shopping center in a pretty location. The service was quick and good but both of our meals were cold when we got them. I had the gnocchi and my date the ravioli and we shared a bruschetta appetizer. The meals were $20.95 each which unfortunately seemed a little high for two cold bowls of pasta.
Food was not impressive and not worth the $80 we spent for 2. Lasagna was flavorless and the seafood pasta did not taste homemade. Pasta from the grocery store is just as good. The house wine was not impressive either. Our waiter took our order after sitting there for 15 Min and then never checked on us. He didn’t even bring us the check. Another server did. We will never go back. Waste of money. Magiannos has better Italian.
