We got a nice corner cozy booth table that a nice older gentlemen got us and made sure we were comfortable and an outstanding waitress Ashley! She was very friendly and accommodated all our needs. The food was great and we had a nice time. We will be back and can't wait to tell all our friends all about it.
The service and ambiance were excellent.
Had a great spot by the fireplace. Food was okay at best for me. Wife liked her steak but it wasn’t cooked to her liking. Been to lots of steak places, prices didn’t reflect quality or taste of food. Spending over $200 for two here wasn’t worth it.
Toscana has exceptional service and delicious food.
Had a great experience at Toscano in portsmouth. Went for a date night and we were greeted promptly. The service was friendly and fast and the food was amazing. Great lively atmosphere but also some quieter spots for more intimate dining.
Would highly recommend
The place is beautiful and staff is super friendly and the food is delicious. I love that you get a lot of food as well for the price.
Best steak ever Would recommend
I had been to Toscana this Summer 2021 with friends and had an excellent time.
My husband took me for my birthday (6 months later).
With all of the challenges in staffing that downtown Portsmouth has experienced, I was surprised to see that even though the front end was staffed adequately, bar was sufficiently staffed, the open kitchen appeared to have plenty of manpower, the server to table top ratio seemed in line, well, at the risk of sounding impolitic, we stood at the entryway for an uncomfortably long time, never greeted by bartenders or waitstaff, our server's first words were "yah we short staffed due to covid" when that appeared objectively untrue.
The food was decent and the service was OK and that is not a strike against our server, I observed him doing more than his fair share while also observing most other staff members standing idle and not contributing.
For me to write a review in this manner is not my style. I am aware of the challenges everyone is facing due to COVID stressors. I felt like using COVID as an excuse for high prices/ lack of services was the easy way out for Toscana.
New Years Eve. 7:15 reservation for two. Seated on time. Server initially attentive. Ordered drinks, app, and entree simultaneously. Drinks a bit slow to arrive. App served in timely manner. It (crispy mozzarella) was decent if unspectacular. Same for the bread.
8:45: App and bread gone. Wine and Prosecco ordered and consumed. 3rd inquiry about entree produced a “they are plating it now” response. Lobster ravioli, Wagyu steak, along with brussel sprouts and herb roasted potatoes delivered to table. Ravioli was fine (again not spectacular). Brussel sprouts were barely lukewarm to the touch. Same with potatoes, w/ added bonus of being rock hard. The much anticipated Wagyu wasn’t even hot enough to prompt a bit of the truffle butter on top to melt. Ordered medium, the center of the cut was blood red and cool to the touch. Nothing outside of the ravioli was edible. The server was notified and informed the manager. He agreed 100% with our assessment of the food. Was apologetic, primarily blaming being busy and lack of help. He did not charge us for the steak or the sides. We did pay for the ravioli, appetizer, and drinks. The bill, incl $30 tip came to ~$160. We didn’t want to ruin the server’s night by withholding her tip. While she could have advocated more for timely delivery of our entree, she was working hard and maintained a pleasant demeanor.
Here’s the thing: I understand that it’s the busiest night of the year and that everyone is struggling to find help. However, if you’re going to charge a premium (& they most certainly do) you need to adjust and take fewer reservations. That was a $70 cut of meat you just wasted. Additionally, while I was initially satisfied with not having to pay for my steak and sides, in retrospect (& substantiated by friends and family) that gesture didn’t go nearly far enough. I had no dinner. We waited almost 2 hrs for the food. Maybe comp the table? Offer a dessert? Drink? Simply won’t return.
Our server Ashley was excellent! Food was good but did not "wow" us for the price. We would return again.
Incredible - amazing space, no detailed unattended to, service was on point, very festive atmosphere, beautiful decor. Specialty drinks are a must try, we had Blood Orange margarita and pear with vodka (forgot names). Wine selection is endless. On to the food: it’s impossible to find a steak outside of Boston this good. I’m always searching, trust me. I got the sirloin mid-rare with bernaise sauce. My wife had the haddock - I tried it and gave her a wide-eye look. It was amazing. All components sang. It was a home run. The bread can’t go unmentioned - insanely good. We had the buratta appetizer. Very good, if any know it was a little too firm on bottom. That’s looking for issues. Sides we had were marscapone mashed and creamed spinach. Both were quality choices. Spinach could have been seasoned a little more (maybe nutmeg). All in all it was a phenomenal experience and we will be back. Kudos to the chef! All my pics did not come out but here are a few. Try it.
Except for the fact we didn’t get the high table we requested; the remainder of the experience was top notch.
Generally the food was excellent my only issue as well as my wife was that our Caesar salad had minimal to no dressing
Ed is by far the best waiter had him twice now! We want him every time he's a gem in this industry makes the whole experience worth it!
We walked by and got amazed by the nice decor in the restaurant so we immediately booked it for the next night. It’s indeed worthwhile! Cocktails and food were delicious and service was quick, under such a situation if labor shortage.
The host wouldn’t sit us until 5 it was 450 and then started to seat others, he was upset when I asked for a different table. (Away from the door) Most tables were empty. Our server knew little about the wine list and wasn’t very helpful. She didn’t know the little things about fine dinning. (Such as refilling wine glass) food was excellent
We wanted to love this restaurant-loved the ambiance and had a great waiter. Our meat was underdone and a second dish arrived cold-and arrived on top of our appetizers. We had to send both dishes back-and still the meat was underdone and the second dish not hot.
There was just something off about the experience
Good food good service
So incredibly disappointed on several levels. Granted it was Christmas Eve, but they were out of a few things (understandable) but when a $55 filet (without sides) comes out well done (ordered med rare) and the other is well done (ordered medium) and sending only one of them back and it never comes out again, that is unacceptable. In addition to the disappeared filet, we also sent back ice cold (as in straight from the fridge) side dish, we did not receive that back until we were all done eating everything else (even though one person had no entree).
I did send a note to the restaurant and received no response or acknowledgement so gave them a second chance with a private message, still no acknowledgement. The fact that they don't acknowledge an issue such as this for a horrible dining experience says alot about how much they value their customers. Yes they took the $55 off for the filet, but how could they not, we didn't receive it. Over $500 for 4 people (after taking off the filet) and not at all worth it.
There are far better high end steak house options available. I suggest you visit one of them.
On the plus side, the waitress was super friendly and accommodating - I felt bad for her.
Christmas Eve date
A lovely Christmas Eve lunch! The only thing was I wanted to order only 2 dishes and dessert from the Feast of 7 Fishes special menu. I've had stomach surgery and can't eat a large amount. My companion is allergic to shellfish, so sharing a meal was out of the question. It was not allowed.
Wonderful anniversary dinner. Everything from appetizer to desert was phenomenal. Steak had a great char and flavor. Will recommend to friends and family.
Food and service were great. The place was packed….a little too much give the rise of Omicron. No masks anywhere, including wait and kitchen staff. Seemed like every moment was a superspreader event. Too bad. Food was really good.
The ambiance was perfect. The food was amazing (and I have high standards). The SERVICE, the staff here really are great. FINALLY good service!!!! Make sure to tip these hard workers accordingly!!! My only complaint, it was really packed. I'm not super scared of covid, but with that many people it might be a risk for some. Can't wait to go back!!!
Waitress was lovely. The food was eh…and $190. for 2 people. Well you know…
The main courses (beef, lamb, chicken, salmon, haddock) were delicious. Unfortunately, the side dishes were not great. Some were overcooked while others were undercooked, Our server was a little hard to take. Her exuberance was so over the top that she came across as phony and a little condescending. I might give it another try in the future, but definitely at an off-peak hour because the noise level was deafening. The market next door was quite nice, offering pastries, gelato, and imported Italian goods.
Poor service. After our food arrived we orders a bottle of wine. No one checked back with us about the food or brought the wine. We had to flag down another waiter and ultimately things happened. It’s an expensive restaurant and the service is certainly not in keeping with what you’d expect.
Celebrated our son’s 25th birthday and everything was wonderful.
Sierra was our waitress and she was wonderful. The bar must’ve been quite busy because it did take forever to get our drinks. After that, however all was well and the food was prepared perfectly as always. But Sierra was wonderful as I said and a great addition to your staff!
I’ve been here 3 times. Last night I took my parents for their anniversary. I have always had excellent excellent food here. Last night unfortunately, they over cooked the two steaks we ordered.
Love the holiday decor, friendly service and top notch food! Must visit when in the area! Can’t wait to return
Very nice dinner. Great staff
I’ve heard several people’s comments (good and bad) about Toscana, but I wanted to finally give it a try. I had an early dinner on Sunday afternoon because we were in the area. Service was good, but lacking the necessary service level for the price point that they’re aiming for. Food was good (I can’t deny that), but a $52 common rib eye is a little much. Piece of haddock on a bed of risotto for $29 was quite high. No alcohol, no appetizers, and the bill for 2 was well over $100. Pricey Portsmouth seems to be dictating the costs, but I can certainly go elsewhere for a good steak and small piece of haddock … and find a place to park.
What a wonderful late afternoon Sunday dinner. Our cocktails were perfectly prepared. We enjoyed two starters, fresh oysters followed by jumbo shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were excellent, however, the presentation was a bit bland. Now, to step up the shrimp cocktail allow me to suggest that the shrimp be grilled. That'll kick it up several notches. We ended up splitting the filet mignon, which was cooked perfectly rare and the sides of roasted potatoes and squash dish, excellent! Looking forward to our next dining experience, soon I hope.
The service was excellent . We sat at the bar and decided to have dinner at the bar rather than a table. The bartenders were very attentive, friendly and had helpful suggestions. The food was good.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend to others
The whole experience was wonderful . Food was amazing and staff was attentive and pleasant . Great experience
Had dinner for the first time at Tuscana. Mixed feelings about our experience. Overall the food was great. My husband's lamb was very tasty, although he did order medium and it was clearly rare as you can see by the photos. The prices are fairly high, but the atmosphere is more like a pub. There's a bar in the center of the restaurant with TV going, staff are wearing jeans. It's a cool pub atmosphere, but the prices are more in keeping with an upscale restaurant, not a pub. Service was friendly but not attentive. We sat a great deal of time between courses, waiting for our waitstaff to ask us if we wanted another drink, or if there was something she could get us, etc.
Food was fresh and tasted great, it's just the prices seem too high for the atmosphere.
Expensive, upscale sports bar plus. Very loud, tables very tightly packed. Went there for an anniversary diner and was a bad venue choice for us. Made special request thru open table that was completely ignored.
Food was great and would expect so after throwing down $60 for a slab of meat. Add more for sides etc. Was worth it? Ahh NO! It just doesn’t have the class you’d think it would have. It’s Overrated
Get a burger & a beer at the bar.
Sat at the bar. Excellent service. And our meal was perfect. Steak cooked perfectly. So good made a reservation for my parents for next week!
Our waitstaff Emma was amazing! Female host so pleasant. Tall male host …. Not so much! :(
