Tosca Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
My dining experience at Tosca was superb. Not only did Tosca accommodate a last-minute reservation change, but also a late arrival. They were gracious, friendly, and helpful. Our waiter was attentive and helpful, and clearly loved the food he was suggesting. The evening was friendly and relaxed, the food superb, the ambience comforting. Absolutely outstanding in all respects. We'll definitely be back!
Outstanding all around! Don't miss the pastas and risottos. They will gladly make half orders of pasta for an appetizer. I enjoy doing 2 halfs for my main course. The grilled sea food stands out as well. When they offer the salami appetizer, don't miss it. It's excellent.
My only complaint was that the greeters at the door did not greet. No one said hello or any word of welcome. I gave them my name and the "greeter" gave a table number to a staff member who took us to a table with the only word being that a server would be with us shortly.
On the good side was great food, served promplty, hot and perfectly prepared and presented. Another great aspect was that there was no rush to get us out of the table; I really think we could have stayed all night.
Going to Tosca is like going to your favorite fun aunt's house----who also happens to be a foodie with lovely dining rooms! I always feel celebrated, happy, and very well fed there.
The early dinner option (35.00) includes something that will please all your diners....yet has some of the restaurant's signature dishes.
Food was tremendous. We had the full tasting menu with wine selections. Food was interesting and each course was wonderful. Server was very kind about substituting a particular pasta (with truffle and robiola cheese -- don't miss it) for one of the courses. Hamachi carpaccio, risotto with nettles, scallops with jerusalem artichokes, and veal loin all standouts. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Not stuffy. Only downside is ambience is like "a hotel conference room" as my husband described. Rather dull. But I'd rather them focus on food, wine and service, which they certainly do.
I was surprised and very pleased by our first visit to Tosca. From the amuse-bouche to the after-dessert treats, we were blown away by the sophisticated, imaginative cuisine and the superlative service. We have placed this dining mecca at the top of our D.C. favorites.
This is my 2nd time time at Tosca (both for special occasions) and again, I was not disappointed. The service was exceptional as was the food (we ordered from the $35.00 special). I was there for my wedding anniversary and did not make a big deal of it to the restaurant (only briefly mentioned it) but dessert had a very tasteful Happy Anniversary on it. This restaurant has world class service! I cannot recommend it highly enough!
What a find!! I'm so glad a friend of mine in Phoenix told me about Tosca. Our waiter was the best!! Funny, attentive and professional all in one. Our food was wonderful. I wish we could have sampled everything. We will definitley go back when we visit the DC area again.
The food was good, the service was not. From the moment that my friend and I picked up the promotional menu, our waiter lost interest and we were moved to the "B" list. When he took our order he did not look at us (he was busy scanning the room) and walked away before we had a chance to order wine. Our first two courses were rushed and then we were deserted. I was frankly embarrassed as my friend was visiting from out of town and I was excited for her to dine here. I suggest that if a restaurant offers and promotes a specially price menu they should remember that it was their idea to do so and treat all customers equally (well). The waiter recovered his manners slightly when he delivered the check but by then, it was too late.
My family attended this restaurant with my son as a special treat after his graduation from Georgetown. I got what I was looking for, excellent food in an ambiance that was comfortable, well spaced tables and moderate noise levels where we could relax and hear ourselves talk after the crowded and hot graduation ceremonies. Service was gracious and restaurant is lovely. Perhaps a bit pricey for overall value but still a very worth while experience.
My experience with Tosca strated out a little rocky - I received a notice from OT that my reservation had been cancelled by the restaurant. When I called, I was told that I was booked twice, so they cancelled us. I could re-reserve via OT if I wanted, no effort to assist.
The food was excellent and beautifully prepared. The radicchio salad was excellent. My lunch partner deemed the halibut "perfectly prepared". And the warm chocolate cake with blueberries was delicious. The cappellacci pasta was good, but the sauce was way too buttery, masking the taste of the pasta. Service was very good.
The food was good, but I did not think that it lived up to its reputation. The risotto was pretty good, but not great - a little to soggy for excellent risotto. The service was inconsistent, good when it was present, but not present enough. Overall, a nice experience but not a great one.
Appetizers and pastas stunningly good, entrees more simply prepared, a lovely wine list. Ask for a table in the center of the room to get the impact of the understated space, though banquettes provide for plenty of privacy and nicely conversational sound level.
This restaurant does not dissapoint, the tasting menu is wonderful and our all time favorite is the carrot papardelle with the rabbit ragu. Portions are just right and the wine list is extensive. Servers are friendly and knowledgable without being intrusive.
