Tosca Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
All the food was well prepared and very good. The only weakness was the service which was MIA for much of the meal. After being seated, our server provided menus and the nightly specials. Then he disappeared and never asked if anyone wanted a cocktail. After 40 minutes we asked another server to find him. Kind of put a damper on the evening.
I lunched here and than returned for dinner a few days later. Ordered the swordfish both times. Sublime. My dinner mates both ordered the pork chop - which stopped them dead in their tracks. They seemed taken aback by the joy of it all. Guess what I’m ordering next time? With my dinner, had the lobster ravioli - perfectly proportioned and delicious. My mates had a salad - I’m sure it was good! Service was attentive, responsive and encouraging. After a delicious meal, the requisite glasses of wine, the waiter wisely suggested grappa - and we indulged! Perfect capper to an event-filled delicious meal. Thank you Tosca!!
A once fine restaurant seems to have lost its mojo. My salmon entre' was dried out and the pasta course was also kinda dry with very little taste. The salad was old, I think.
In my experience, when this happens, the restaurant almost never makes it back to its former greatness.
Food comes first. Either fire the chef of send him for re-education.
Was in DC on business and tried Tosca for the first time - Wow - it was great. First, I love the fact that they have some nice half-bottle offerings as I typically dine alone when traveling on business. I had a very tasty Amarone for a reasonable price. Second, Umberto - my waiter was fantastic - making suggestions that were superb. Third, I love the fact that they do half orders of their pastas - I had the short rib ravioli and it was delicious. Fourth, you can tell a really good Italian restaurant by the quality of the olive oil they provide for dipping their bread/focaccia - it was smooth and very tasty.
My only issue - and this is one that I face repeatedly - is that as a single diner, I usually get the worst table - at Tosca, I was sat right next to a wall so it was like eating in a small phone booth.
But I will definitely return when my travels take me to DC.
Tosca was outstanding! Every bite of every dish was delicious. We order three handmade pasta dishes, all of which can be ordered in half sizes to try more, and we would recommend the lobster ravioli, the tagliatelle rabbit ragu, and penne lamb ragu. You really can't go wrong. The scallop appetizer was also delectable. And finally we ordered the branzino, which was delicious. If I had to do it over, I might get all pastas because they were just too good. Try Tosca for a special occasion!
Spectacular meal, excellent service, and lux but friendly atmosphere! We enjoyed a relaxed pre-theater meal and had no problem with our ala carte order being synchronized with the prix fixe order. Our waiter, Jose, was everything a professional should be! The food was as luscious. Highlights of the evening: the generous portion of prosciutto di Parma with a burrata that rivaled any we have had in Italy and the chef's specialty ravioli filled with shortribs. We'll return soon and regret not visiting sooner!
I had dinner twice at Tosca this past week. The first time I ordered the pasta with white truffles, the pasta served to me was not tagliatelle . The second time we had a guest invited to dinner who ordered the whole wheat pasta, she was served a half portion ( had ordered full portion) and we were charged for a full portion.
Excellent service, great taste.
I like her ravioli much. As specialty, grilled tuna was served by market price, reasonably. Although afogart is not on the desert menu, they made it upon my request, and her demonstration to finalize it was also enjoyable.
We enjoyed the visit very much.
