   Beautiful decor with attentive and knowledgeable service. Food was uneven but overall good with the exception of the gnocchi which was the best I’ve had. I chuckled at the highest level of noise which Open Table defines as “Lively”. Let’s just say it is lively and then some. The music is quite loud which creates an ambiance of dining in a club which I’m guessing is intentional on the part of the owners. I’ll step out on a ledge with some generalizations and say that a younger crowd will find Cafe Tosca to be a fun, lively hip place to dine and have some good cocktails. If you are a bit older and/or enjoy dinner conversation you may want to skip this restaurant or book on a slower night.

   Our choices: olives (great), buratta salade (superb), pork saltimbocca (excellent). Noise level: you really can't hear someone sitting directly across the table from you.

   What the hell happened to Tosca? It used to have a much more interesting and varied dinner menu and wine menu. The focaccia is fat bread, not focaccia. Pasta uninspired. It still has a great neighborhood vibe and the service is good but the kitchen really needs to up its food game. Covid is over. Competition for dining excellence has returned, but not quite so at Tosca.

    Party of 4 had Truffle Gnocchi and Braised short rib rigatoni along with Focaccia and Fried Eggplant starters. Ended with olive oil cake and a salted chocolate custard. Everything was delicious, the service was exceptional and the music/atmosphere was great. Had a wonderful time!

    We arrived at our reservation on time at and were seated within 5 mins. We sat at our table for 25 mins without any acknowledgment and finally left. We used to frequent Tosca and this was our first time back post pandemic, very disappointing.

    I planned a dinner with myself and five friends in North Beach and Tosca quickly popped out as one of the better options. We went on a Friday night and had a blast. First off the ambiance was fantastic. The restaurant was full and plenty of people were there that gave the place a lot of energy. The food was excellent as well. We ordered wine, apps, entrees and desserts. All the pastas on menu were delicious and I especially enjoyed the spaghetti and meatballs I got. Finally the service was excellent. Our waiter was good humored and provided great recommendations. The service was incredibly fast as well.

    My husband thought the short rib rigatoni was very tasty. DO NOT order the crispy eggplant antipasti......it is not crispy when you put it in a tomato sauce, when the pieces were cut to bite-size the coating fell off and the consistency was too firm for my taste......seemed to be significantly under cooked. The focaccia seemed more like a loaf of bread toasted in garlic/parmesan coating.

    We love this place generally! But some food last night was lacking some energy and was a bit underwhelming. Maybe they weren't having a good night so hope to find it better next time. Artichokes and chocolate dessert were delicious.

    Yikes! Not the best meal. We loved our server and the service overall was excellent. The food was only so so and not as good as I remember from past visits. Sadly a bit disappointing this time.

    The service was great, food was pretty good, but it was off the charts loud, to the point we will not come back because of that. We couldn’t hear ourselves think, let alone talk to each other. Very unpleasant experience because of that.

    Overall wonderful experience. We were running late, so I called to let them know, and they were gracious. Our waiter was friendly, the food was excellent, the drinks were tasty (ordered a Brandy Old Fashioned Sweet, and they took great pride all working together to create a good one), the wait staff were attentive, and the atmosphere is old North Beach. To top it all off, our girls had to run out to get to prom at the end of our meal, and our waiter was flexible and kind. It was a fantastic evening. Thank you for making our prom dinner special and for being so patient with us.
