Tortoise Supper Club Ratings and Reviews
This is the second year in a row that my wife and I have eaten there for our anniversary. The service was fantastic and the food top notch. We arrived early (5:30 pm) as we had theater tickets, so the noise level was very low. By the time we left, it was average. The ambience is nice and we appreciated the free glass of champagne and the Happy Anniversary note. Highly recommended.
first time visiting the tortoise cub. we came for dinner after an outtig at the chicago broadcasting museum. we were celebrating a birthday. our waiter brought us a very "yummy" cake to share !!!! makes a nice "combo" event for an enjoyable evening. the service was excellent. our servers were very friendly and helpful. fun atmosphere for a speak easy. good food. good vibes.
The service and atmosphere were lovely, and we enjoyed the appetizers and cocktails, but considering the $270 price tag for two people, I would expect the entrees to be prepared to a higher standard.
The fish special was considerably overcooked, and the prime rib was barely warm. Based on the high cost and what we received, we would not return. There are too many other options in Chicago that do a better job at this price point (or for much less).
Cozy and plush, this was a great spot for a friendly gathering. Food was great, with a nice poke bowl which was unexpected, given the traditional look of the place. Could use more waitstaff at the noon hour, but overall a great experience. Will definitely be back.
Shelby was amazing! She was very attentive and recommended good drinks and entrees.
The Seafood Lazy Susan was very different than anything i have had, a must try!
Had the Prime Rib special and that was very tasty with the fries.
Last but not least, the Cherry Pie was awesome.
Server was extremely knowledgeable and was able to share specific ingredients on the menu. Ordered the Berkshire Pork Chop and it was delicious! Wrapped things up with the Tortoise Pie that the server recommended and it was worth it. Only slight disappointment was I made the reservation ahead of time, confirmed it with the Tortoise Club the day off and still got sat in the bar area. Still nice for a group of four, but missed out on the ambiance of the main dining room.
Overall, great experience. We were celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary so they had a card on the table and complimentary glasses of champagne which was very nice. We had the skirt steak and prime rib, both were great, but the highlight was the cherry pie. Will go back for that alone.
My wife and I had the steak tartar which was very good. We also had the pumpkin soup which was excellent. My wife had one of the specials - halibut. I had the Prime Rib which was tough on the edges and somewhat better in the center. For $39 I was expecting "soft as butter" - this was a disappointment. It was one of the regular Saturday night "specials" on the menu. Probably best to stay away from the 2 specials. Wine was excellent - the waiter provided recommendations that we took. Desert was excellent also. Overall a great experience although not perfect.
We arrived early and they could seat us, we took advantage for the oysters and shrimp happy hour in the lounge. Very nice cocktails and atmosphere. We went on to our meal after an hour or so. Tito was our server. His suggestion in wine was lovely and he was attentive but not intrusive. Great food. We had the meatloaf, onion soup, and wedge salad. Excellent. We will come again when in Chicago.
We went for my friend's 70th birthday celebration before Trevor Noah concert at Chicago Theater (b/c close and free valet parking - a lovely touch). She enjoyed her meal more than I.
Good food but overpriced I think. Nice service. Was kind of surprised that they knew it was her 70th birthday and didn't offer a dessert treat for her. Oh well.
I visited the Tortoise Supper Club with my college age son hoping to give him a treat of an upscale steak dinner. The Club did not disappoint! Our waiter was very attentive, my son loved his steak and my pork chop was delicious! We shared the cherry pie with vanilla ice cream for dessert and it was the perfect ending for a wonderful meal. If we come back to Chicago we would certainly return!
Dined at tortoise club last week for my sister's birthday party. I came in with a party of 16. They had a little nice private sectioned area for us, it was beautiful. We also had a great waitor, his name was Sergio. He had all my guests laughing and ensured we had a great time. Booking was hassle free and the food was great. Thanks for making my sister's bday special tortoise club.
Menu needs lots of work, no lobster, escargot, oysters rockefeller or calamari. But, the meat loaf was great. Drinks were good and the service was slow. Live music was outstanding. Velet parking helps this downtown location. It's going to be a long time before I come back.
Out on a date with the wife; she found the TSC on Open Table, viewed the menu. Reminded her of the comfort foods and supper clubs she loves in Northern Wisconsin - but with a Chicago twist. The bartenders, servers, and other staff were incredibly accommodating and polite. Service was on par with many upscale restaurants (Alinea, Next, Tru). The craft cocktails were amazing! The Unique Whiskey Sour was addicting - and I'm more of a scotch guy. My wife wanted a pomegranate martini - they were out of pomegranate juice - the mixologist bartender fashioned a "pometini" out of different juices and blends - she loved it! The food was prepared perfectly (lamb chops, rare and a pork chop, medium) and our server was perfectly attentive without being overly so.
We feel as if we have found a true gem and will definitely return. If you like a space surrounded by warm woods, a mahogany bar (well worn), well-prepared comfort food and a great cocktail, all served with a smile and genuine concern for your dining experience, this is a place you'll enjoy. Highly recommended!
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. It was perfect. A card hand signed by the owners was on the table to wish her a happy birthday. The waiter was witty and the atmosphere was perfect. The bill was a little pricey but we ordered the most expensive specials and had two cocktails each. It was worth it and I will definitely come here again!
Tortoise Supper Club used to be a regular (once per week or more often) choice for everyday dining. Now we go primarily when friends ask us to go there. Nothing really wrong and the Executive Chef is superb, but they are in such a good location with such good food and service that they are incredibly successful and very busy with large noisy tables of people. Not our scene anymore but a very good restaurant all the same.
Wow! The Tortoise is a gem of a find! This impressive restaurant was a serendipitous meal, and boy did we have an amazing experience there. Shelby, our server, was adorable, knowledgeable, and very attentive to our timeline and dietary requirements. All the Service staff was considerate and didn’t rush us along. Even the owner came by and took a picture with us. Can’t say enough about how wonderful a place this is. Don’t miss it on your next trip to Chicago!
