Excellent food - really novel menu; service also very good and attentive
The food and service was great. The prices were reasonable considering it is a loop location. The bar seemed to be a popular place to hang out and the jazz band was pretty good.
I loved this restaurant before, and I love it more now. They made our anniversary very special. We had a romantic corner table. They laid out a card and a candle. We had two complementary glasses of champagne waiting. The food was amazing, but that’s the case on any occasion at the Tortoise. The service was impeccable. We are very appreciative, and we look forward to our next dinner there.
We had a wonderful time. The dinner was for a friend's birthday. We arrived early to enjoy a little jazz (which was great) and the host was very patient with us and didn't rush us right to our table. When we finally did sit down to dinner there was a hand signed birthday card on the table to my friend and we were presented with a champagne toast on the house. It really was just a little extra touch that put us into a great mood and made the evening feel even more special. The food was also delicious. We had a vegetarian with us and she had plenty of options and ended up loving her dinner. Overall a GREAT night!
Superb service and the food was excellent...delightful ambiance!
Service was exceptional. While I enjoyed my meal, my partner did find her tuna somewhat lacking in flavor or depth. Other than that wonderful. We plan to come back for oyster happy hour soon.
Food is always good. Sergio was our server and he was amazing. We will be back.
Glad we found this place. It was nice. Enough supper club tucked away in the city. Nearby valet parking that made things nice and easy. Wonderful service on top of excellent food. Can’t wait to go back.
It was the perfect birthday dinner, restaurant temperature was the only thing that needed an adjustment it was extremely hot.
My girlfriend and I were in from out of town and this was a perfect spot for dinner on a cold Saturday night. The service was excellent from start to finish. The menu is what you'd except, but the food had a little something extra that made it special. The atmosphere is warm and elegant, not stuffy. We will definitely make a point of going back next time we are in Chicago.
I put in the reservation that it was our Anniversary and there was a card at the table when we sat down and the waiter then brought us a glass of champagne on the house. Very nice touch all around.
Service was outstanding, as was the food. Made a special occasion even more memorable—will definitely be back.
Loved the live music and intimate seating arrangements. Felt like an old school chicago steak house. Had great cocktails and my filet was delicious. Decently priced. Quick service but not rushed. Could go for cocktails and live music or for a dinner party.
Chad was an amazing guide to our dining experience. We were well cared for and entertained by his knowledge and charm.
Warm, intimate atmosphere with wonderful service and food in the heart of the city. Best chilean sea bass I have ever had, must try!
Excellent restaurant. Our server Tino did a wonderful job.
Had a great experience. The ambiance and decor was great with dark stained wood all around and a cozy fireplace. The service was excellent. The food was delicious as well. Will definitely come back.
Absolutely loved my experience at the Tortoise Club. Top notch food and service. Very interesting and unique interior decoration. Highly recommend.
Aaron was our server and was great. The entire experience was great. I enjoyed hearing about the history and story behind the restaurant.
We had a nice time here. It took a while to get seated despite our reservation, but the booth we received was comfortable. Very nice supper clubby ambience (only slightly marred by the table of women occasionally shrieking next to us). Our waiter was excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. Cocktails were well made and presented. We were not thrilled with our food, however. The two beef dishes (a steak and prime rib) were mediocre at best. The shrimp entrée was fine, but not a great value for a dish consisting of pasta and four shrimp. Would come back for cocktails and appetizers in the bar, not sure about dinner.
Very nice restaurant, from checking your coat at the door to waiter welcoming you at the table. Top notch waiter, explained items on the menu and was very personable. Bill was a bit pricey but get what you pay for! Enjoyed our time together here at this restaurant. Thanks for making our night out so nice!
This was our first experience with TSC. From the moment we walked in, the service and atmosphere was excellent. The food, drinks, and dessert were all excellent. Steak was good perfectly, wedge salad was great, and the Sea Bass was fantastic. Key Lime pie was a great way to finish our meal.
Excellent service across the board at this place. We had a wonderful server named Sergio that was top-notch. We had theater tickets for 7PM and it was a breeze to park using their valet, have a great dinner and then to come back for dessert and live music.
The food and drink were really great
Tortoise was an excellent choice! Very professional, excellent customer service and the food was fresh and was cooked fairly quick. I will definitely return! Thank you for making my birthday dinner wonderful... PS... They are very accommodating.
Excellent service! Excellent cocktails! Food was well prepared and everything was great. I will return again as I think the ambiance, food and value contribute to a great dining experience in Chicago!
Awesome time. Awesome food. Awesome service.
Great service and the food was fresh and delicious!
Always have a fantastic experience here. The menu is mostly solid although a few classic items should come back on the menu but overall many choices for all to dine at Lunch or Dinner. Our server Safia was a pro - articulate and interesting. She was there when appropriate and attentive.
Roasted chicken salad and Moroccan soup were 5* this place is locally owned and operated which makes it even more special!
Go for the Food Go for the Service but definetly Go.
My husband and I had dinner plans with some friends who had to cancel last minute so we decided to try the Tortoise Supper club . We like supper clubs and had recently heard about It.
It was amazing. This location was the old Russian Tea room, its old world extravagant . We met some people at the bar while waiting for our table. I love meeting new people. My husand had the Meat loaf and I had the stroganoff dish. Food was good, nice portions and is reasonably priced, liquor is a bit pricey so if you're drinking wine i suggest getting the bottle instead of by glass. the Bartender Rosalina and our Waiter Jimmy were friendly and very good at thier work. We will definetly go back and can't wait to get some friends there. The restaurant does have a valet service and is located down the street from the House of Blues. Treat yourself, tell them Mary sent you.
Visited after the theater, and were rewarded with an intimate booth, able to hear the live jazz in the bar. Highly recommend the bleu cheese dip!! It is phenomenal!!
Food was outstanding!
We went to Tortoise for a day night and were looking forward to the experience.
Service: Excellent, fast, attentive, friendly. Almost too fast. We were looking to make a night of the whole experience, have a few drinks, long conversation, etc. Our entrees were in front of us 8 minutes after ordering -- and I'm not exaggerating.
Food: We ordered the shrimp cocktail to start and that was the best part of the meal! The shrimp were huge and plentiful. I've heard that Mon - Fri they have great happy hour specials where shrimp and oysters are $1 a piece, so I will definitely be back for that. Otherwise, the food was only average and seemed incredibly overpriced for what we ended up getting.
Drinks: I would've liked to see more cocktails as options, but they had the standard: manhattan, old fashioned, martinis, etc.
Loved everything about the experience. Authentic supper club decor from the sport coats that the hosts wore to the wood paneling on the walls. Food fit the theme with sizable portions of supper club classics like meatloaf and stuffed walleye, with a playful grasshopper adult milkshake to cap the night. Well done!
Classy but fun. Staff is energetic, very pleasant. We were greeted and seated promptly. The service is excellent. The food is top-tier for Chicago and very comparable to top restaurants nationwide. Good menu, drink selection, ambiance. Fair prices.
We were visiting Chicago for the SNL exhibit and hadn't booked reservations for dinner ahead. We were searching for places to go and the Tortoise kept popping up. We took it as a sign that the universe intended we needed to go. We were seated in a room that felt almost like an extra wide train car with rose red walls and arched ceilings. It was very cozy. Our waitress Evie was excellent. She had very positive energy and was experienced in articulating wine pairings with our food choices. Her energy was contagious and she made the evening perfect. The owner overheard my selection of the Chilean Sea Bass and popped right over to say, he felt it was one of the two best entrees on the menu. It was superb. As a person who dined all over North America, my positive recommendations for this restaurant should not be taken lightly. How they figured out the timing of the candles that perfectly matched a two to two and half hour dining experience was lovely. The wax accumulating on the linen was artistically enjoyable as well. After dinner we stayed for the jazz trio for about an hour or so. They were simply amazing! As a musician I can tell you these three polished professionals. The owner kept his eye on all happenings throughout the restaurant all night long. We simply could not have been happier. Thank you!
They have some of the best meatloaf I've ever had. The restaurant was loud. The wait staff was attentive.
We LOVED the Tortoise Supper Club. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and treated so special. Our waiter was great -- knowledgeable and friendly. The food is amazing! We sat near the fireplace -- so cozy and comfortable. The bar area looked great -- reminds us of a Chicago - staple restaurant -- but not with "stuffy" people or staff! Can't wait to go there again!!
Pre theatre dinner. One of our favorite spots to cone with friends.
