Tortoise Supper Club Ratings and Reviews
The food was exceptional. The prime rib was done perfectly. Enjoyed the split pea soup. The waiter was great. He was helpful, interesting, informative and really did a wonderful job for us. His name was Benjamin. We set our dinner so that we would be finished in time to get a seat in the lounge for the jazz, and he helped us out. He even got us a table in the lounge and took us to it.
I highly recommend the Tortoise Supper for a dater night, anniversary or special occasion.
This was my first time to the Tortoise, having a quiet dinner with my son. It was just fabulous, could not be better. The staff are real pros, respecting our privacy, not hovering or filling our coffee every three minutes, etc. the food was superb...authentic old classic Chicago supper club...just excellent!!
This was my first time at the TSC. I was very excited to have dinner there. When my companion asked the server for a wine recommendation, he recommended a $29 glass of wine. Clearly my companion was not familiar with wines and just wanted a nice red to drink with his steak. I honestly do not think that a $29 per glass wine should have been the recommendation. Or, if so, alert the customer to the cost. My companion had another glass and I had 3, that was $145 for wine. This was not my first time to a fine restaurant and I fully understand the cost of good wine and food, but this is just not acceptable. I do not blame the server, he was just doing his job and, I am sure, is told to promote the more expensive wines. There are 13 red wines, by the glass, on the menu, other less expensive wines would have sufficed.
The experience was great. The only bad thing @ the table for four adults was the table extention broke off & fell into our guest's lap. We had mentioned this early in the evening as to it being loose, luckily no soup or coffee or dinner ended up in his lap!. To our chagrin, we went into the bar to have a final drink while the table was under repair. Bill Brown
This was my first visit here. It was a Birthday dinner for myself & my daughter. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We had the grilled octopus appetizer to start and each of us ordered something different, so we got to taste several entrees, all of which were amazing. They gave us B-day girls a slice of cherry pie ala mode, and I finished the meal off with a signature Grasshopper...it was awesome!
The food and drinks were very good. I had the most expensive non-steak item on the menu (chilean seabass), which at $48 didn't turn out to be worth the money (especially size-wise) but as it was a holiday meal I consider it a treat. The second main dish, the meatloaf, was almost 2/3 cheaper and much better choice, both delicious and good-size portion. I would definitely come back for that. The restaurant has an old-style, traditional feel which was lovely, however, our waiter seemed to be in a rush to get us out of there as quickly as possible. I didn't feel very valued as a customer. My salad plate was almost removed when I was only halfway through eating and the dessert menus appeared while my husband was still eating his main course. I thought this restaurant should have been of a higher standard. I would go again but would probably advise the staff to not rush so much.
Decent value and great location across from the Trump and Langham hotels. It could have been that it was Dec 23rd but the restaurant was dead and the ambiance I had read so much about, just wasn't there. In addition, the meatloaf that most rave about was horrible. I will say that the prime rib someone else in our party had looked excellent. Overall, the location is good for tourists or those visiting the theaters but locals will be disappointed considering all the other options around there.
This was our first visit and we'll definitely be back! We came here for our 10th anniversary and the team was so kind with a nice note on our table and champagne as well. For dinner we had the lamp chops and prime rib, both just melted in your mouth. Can't say enough good things about this place.
The food was excellent, but the service was quite inattentive. Also, I had made the reservation far enough in advance and was surprised that we were seated at a table in the bar. Poor treatment. And when they called to confirm the reservation, they neglected to mention that we would be seated in the bar.
Very impressed! Came for my husband's birthday and when we got there, our booth was ready with a card from the restaurant, and the server brought over complimentary champagne and dessert! The food was incredible, and presented just as nicely. Very attentive staff and would highly recommend!
Have eaten here before with groups from 2-6 and everyone had delicious soups, fish, pork chops, veggies and pies. However on this occasion the grouper was very dry and flavorless and was $39.99. Two of us agreed it was most disappointing. In their favor, they did offer to bring another entre but the moment was already spoiled and we didn't want our other companion to wait for us. They did bring complimentary dessert but a refund on the entrée or gift card for future use would have been more appreciated. Based on prior experience I'd still go back but not order grouper.
Hosted our major clients for dinner and wanted a unique setting with a food and wine selection uniquely different that just another steak place; The Tortiose Club did not disappoint. Excellent service with offerings each of our 12 guests found to be perfect for the occasion. Solid wine selection, fun appetizer options and the desserts were fantastic. Tenae did a superb job arranging and the entire evening was seamless start to finish. Can’t wait to return next time in Chicago.
