The TSC continues to impress. From the moment we walked in we knew we would love this Club. We were immediately greeted and seated thoughtfully at an intimate table. Crafted cocktails were quickly presented and were excellent. The venison special that night demonstrated true creativity for the wonderful blend of tastes.
Tortoise Supper club was a great dinner venue. I took my daughters here for the jazz and throw back supper club atmosphere. The food was delicious, our server was the perfect level of attentive and as females we were not neglected or treated differently (which unfortunately does happen at some places).
My daughters had the filet and were very pleased. I enjoyed the Saturday special of prime rib. We were given a choice to be seated near the Jazz or away, we chose to be near. It was fun to have the music so close but next time I would have it more in the background.
I would definitely return and recommend.
The Tortoise Club may deserves better than a 1 star, but may be management will read this review and may be it will help them to improved the restaurant. We were a party of 6 experienced diners who have gone to all the best restaurants in Chicago over the past 40 years. My wife is a vegetarian and I made a point of explaining in the comments section of Open Table that she would like a special dish prepared but one the is not all vegetables. I gave several examples like a tofu dish, or a margarita pizza, or a noodle dish. I just wasted my time because no one at the restaurant read or looked at my comment. In stead an arrogant waiter told us that they had a superb vegetable dish for vegetarians. He was totally clueless. My wife order a Wedge salad and a side order of mushrooms($10.95), which were really awful. Not much for a $500+ food tab for our table. I got the Saturday night special of Prime Rib for $39.95. I expected about the equivalent of Lawry's Prime Rib. It was not even close. I had read a previous diner's review of this dish, that arrived barely warm, so I told the arrogant waiter make sure the prime rib is hot when it is served. Of course it was barely warm, and I had to hustle to eat it before it got cold. It was served with mountain of french fries, and two small dipping sauces. Not exactly $39.95 worth of anything. The wines we selected were really marginal for $65 a bottle. My friends at the table had fish dishes($35.95 average), which they rated at a 3 star at best. We, in part, went there to hear the jazz music but we could hardly hear anything above the noise in the restaurant. This is average food at best which is extremely over priced, just like one of the guests on the WTTW show "Check Please" had commented. Suggestions: Improve the food quality and lower the prices until you have decent quality food. Improve the sound in the restaurant so people can hear the music. I hope management and other diner's read this review.
We ate dinner here before a show at the Chicago theatre. Perfect location since it was a less than five minute walk. The overall ambiance is nice and the service was excellent. Our waiter was very knowledgeable, attentive, and very mindful of us needing to be done in time to head to our show. Food was tender and flavorful ( ordered the pork chop with grilled asparagus). I would absolutely recommend this place!
Came for the food but would go back for the service! Our server, Chimmey, was amazing - warm and welcoming (and a beautiful singing voice). There was a delay with getting our main course and he was very apologetic, offered to comp the grasshopper milkshake we wanted for dessert (he brought us 2!) and made sure they were ready as soon as we were done eating (we had a show to get to). The manager also stopped by to apologize and brought us a relish tray - which was huge! - and a total surprise while we waited. We ordered the beet salad and smoked trout caesar, both were delicious, and the prime rib special and the meatloaf. The meatloaf was yummy and very rich. This is also a great place to go pre-show because they will validate your valet ticket for free parking if you have theater tickets. We were able to walk to the show from the restaurant and come back afterwards to get our car. Would definitely go back!
Had a great birthday dinner for my husband and his twin brother here. Our waiter was great and they even provided 2 desserts free of charge for the birthday celebrations. Gorgeous ambiance - wish we could have stayed for the live jazz! Definitely a classier place, would recommend leaving the sneakers and t-shirts at home. Delicious food and healthy portions. Would definitely return.
Great for a dinner before seeing a show! We had a large group and enjoyed the Relish Tray and rolls to start. I had the meatloaf, which was very good but I was drinking water throughout the night so I think there was some extra salt seasoning my dinner! Others at the table had different fish dishes and everyone seemed happy with their dinners. The ambiance is fun- feels like an old fashioned supper club.
This spot is awesome! Great vibe, amazing service and our meals were incredible. I had the Amish chicken and it was flavor packed. The cocktails are perfectly balanced and the bar scene is lively and entertaining. There is a dining side and a bar side, the bar side is definitely more my scene but the dining room is not stuffy in the least.
NY Sirloin was not cooked all the way through and was actually cold on inside. For the price the steak was not a great cut of beef.
Delicious food with impeccable service, thank you Matt F❤️
Our waiter Chimmy was amazing! Best chicken dish ever! Would return for sure!
Food was mediocre at best, poor for price. We had substantial leftovers and gave them to the homeless on our way home. Jazz band was standard. Nothing special, but not going to bother you. Would not go back for anything other than a drink.
Great food, service and atmosphere! Will definitely be back!
The food was great, the service was quick, flexible and competent. Good selection of wines. Me and my wife had a great time.
Another GREAT dinner...will be back again...and recommend to friends!
Of ALL the steakhouses in Chicago....
This is my favorite! I feel like a Very select member of an exclusive speakeasy being welcomed back each time I visit. Ambience is old school helped by the crooners of the 40s & 50s. Service was friendly, informative but understated. Shelby didn't rush us and made wonderful suggestions. The bartender even made my new favorite cocktail, a Boulevardier, which is just beginning to trend. I am aware that this is a family-run place and their love of the business shows in every nuance of food, plating, service and atmosphere. I love this place!
Tino was awesome!
Great food, service and tasty cocktails 😊
Easter brunch in Chicago doesn’t get any better!
It’s always great here. The proprietors take great care of their guests. One of our favorite spots.
Easter brunch was fantastic and Red Room was vintage. Good selection of raw bar, carved meats, desserts, and classic brunch specials. Soup station could have had one more selection. Scrambled eggs were a little boring, I would suggest expanding the egg station. Having an employee shoot retro photos with her polaroid camera was a creative and fun idea.
Loved everything about this place: exceptional service, great food, beautiful live music in the bar area! We’ll be back for sure!
This was one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had in Chicago! The service was delightful and impeccable, and the food was really delicious as well. We can’t wait to go back!
One of the best meals and drinks my wife and I have had in years. Great place and will definitely be back.
I’ve been to Tortoise Club several times and it never fails. Great food, nice ambience, great friendly service and they really worked hard to accommodate a young child (though generally not a family with kids for place, and that’s totally ok!!) love it here. Will return again, and again.
Chicago's 'take' on the supper club experience.
Wonderful ambiance--sexy, jazz vibe. Great for a girls night out. Host and service teams were super hospitable and knowledgeable.
Supper Club Fun! This restaurant has a great location on State St. near so much. The atmosphere is warm and full energy. The food was amazing. My usually particular husband had the best octopus ever, delicious Walleye (so Midwestern) w/shrimp, brioche rolls with honey-peach butter. I had a Trout Caesar Salad (yes,Trout-yes, delicious), and duck (an entire half!). Then we went into the bar to listen to some fabulous jazz. My husband was thanking me all evening. Really an overall great experience!!
Excellent service! Was very impressed. Food tasted really nice as well. The only part that felt slow was being us the check, but that’s probably because they didn’t want to rush us. Has the sea bass and it was excellent.
We celebrated our anniversary # 26, they received us very well, they congratulated us, the food was delicious! The atmosphere and efficient attention, we will return with the whole family.
My son recommended this place and he was right .... very good restaurant.
Never having been there before, I was thrilled with the Tortoise Supper Club. The Service and food were exceptional. Next time I will plan to stay for the jazz in the bar. Great spot. Not to be missed.
Grilled octopus and foie gras we ordered was not impressive.... they were both too tough. Prime rib my husband ordered was fantastic.
Great from start to finish.
Great service!! Very friendly!
Happy hour oysters were wonderful and waiter Evie terrific!
I've been there twice - once for dinner and once for lunch. It was very good overall. I had the Ahi Tuna seared and it was tender and flavorful. But it was definitely cool in temperature throughout. I thought it should be hot or at least warm on the outside. For my lunch experience a week later I got it medium and enjoyed it more. My only other comment is that services is very leisurely. If you're not ready to stay for 2+ hours -- which we were for dinner -- you need to let the wait staff know. Other than that -- a great dining experience!
They always take good care of me - make sure you take the time to listen to the specials
Fabulous food, attentive and polite service - can’t ask for better.
Excellent food - really novel menu; service also very good and attentive
