Tortoise Supper Club Ratings and Reviews
Food was incredibly average for the price. Food came out looking and tasting like it was prepared by the dishwasher. Servers were friendly, lighting was too bright. Broken shell all over the mussels. Skirt steak wasn’t seared off at all. Oysters had to have been frozen. Everything lacked flavor.
Our best dining experience in Chicago in over 10 years. We went for the first time for Valentine’s Day, and were greeted by friendly hosts. We sat in a corner booth, and were immediately greeted by a professional waiter. He did not invade our space, or, make us listen while he rattled off the specials. He brought us our wine and appetizers as requested, again, very promptly. To our delight, a pretty girl dressed in 20’s asked if we wanted a Polaroid! It was free and fun watching it develop like old times. Our food was served hot and delicious and we really liked the menu. Even gluten free for our family with allergies. All of the menu items were priced very reasonably and the taste beat our expectations. We’ve spent so much more at all of the big name restaurants but never experienced the service or welcome feeling by the great people at the Tortoise supper club. We’ll be back for sure!
We did a restaurant week menu and everything we tried was great! The tortoise pie was the highlight but every other dish was great too. The Tuna appetizer was a very good size. They made some great Martinis which were very cheap during restaurant week. We had a steak and a duck for dinner which were both very tasty.
I went for Restaurant Week and had no expectations. I ordered from the Restaurant Week menu including onion soup, filet mignon and cherry pie without ice cream for dessert as well as a Side Car cocktail. The filet was excellent and so was the cocktail. The pie could have done without the additional flavorings and a less thick crust. Further, before the pie arrived, all my utensils were removed from the table and a fork was placed on the table. Cherries need spoons. The server did not inform me of any specials either food or drink before I placed my order nor was I asked about my meal at anytime. This was unfortunate. Upon my departure no standard thank you for dining with us was given.
My visit to Tortoise Supper Club was during Chicago Restaurant Week. I loved the atmosphere, the quiet and the food was quite good--especially Michigan Tart Cherry Pie! A bit beyond my budget--hence checking it out during Restaurant Week--would love to return (on someone else's dime).
I went to this establishment for the first time to try their Restaurant Week menu with my sister and a good friend. We were all pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the food and drink. The seafood is divine, as well as the french onion soup and cocktails. We had an excellent three course meal, with added oyster appetizer. Definitely not a cheap dining option but well worth the money. Very cozy and welcoming ambience. White table cloths and dark, richly colored wood throughout. I would like to go back to try their happy hour options which include $1 oysters and shrimp cocktails. I would also like to go on one of the nights that they have live music. Overall, very pleased with my dining experience here and will be back in the near future.
We visited the tortoise supper club during restaurant week and it was a phenomenal experience. One of the best meals we’ve ever had. The tuna poke bowl was fresh and delicious, and the crispy duck was amazing. Service was excellent, and then the manager came over to thank us for joining them for dinner. One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back!
The atmosphere was really nice. We went for an early birthday dinner before a show and were greeted with free champagne. Our server was friendly and polite. We decided to do the RW menu. I started with a cucumber collins which was alright but not phenomenal- a bit too cucumber-y. MY husband had a gin martini that tasted like straight alcohol. My husband started with the tuna poke which he was excited about but said tasted bland. I had the French onion soup which was ok but I think had too many croutons. We both has the steak. I liked mine alot. I thought the cherry-chipolte sauce was good and imaginative. Both steaks were cooked perfectly. My husband thought his was under-seasoned, however. I had the tortoise pie for dessert. I liked it even if it was a bit too sweet. My husband liked the cherry pie's crust but wished it had been served warm. I think we may have suffered from the RW menu. They seemed busy and maybe a bit like they were sick of the same dishes. The experience overall, however, was enjoyable for a special occasion. I'd like to come back some night when there is music and probably just have drinks- though not a martini.
I went to this restaurant for my birthday which also happened to be during restaurant week. I don;t remember our server's name but he was nice and informative about the menu and the restaurant week menu. He gave a great recommendation on the drinks. The mood was great adn the lights were a little low, but everyone was friendly and accommodating. I was earinga boot on my foot and it was great to see all the assistance everyone offered to make my stay a great experience. The appetizer I has was a blue cheese dip with raisin bread and green apples. This was excellent and very tasty! I then had shrimp with pineapple and green beans and that was also great. I received a complimentary glass of moscato for my birthday and it was sweet and very smooth. Overall, it was a great experience.
