We booked for NYE after reading the online reviews which sounded promising. While the service and presentation was good, the food lacked flavor, texture, and quality. Having been to Italy and growing up in and around Italian households, this place missed the mark and we were extremely disappointed.
Birthday and Christmas and all expectations were met we have been there on other occasions and are never disappointed.
As always, a great meal and exceptional service. One of favorite places for special dinners.
We enjoyed this, an alternative to getting together with family this Christmas.
I like this place very much. We’ve been here a number of times, and have always been happy with the experience. With the pandemic, though, we haven’t gone out much and I’m afraid we aren’t the only ones. We were there on Wednesday evening, and from 6:00 through about 7:30 we were the ONLY diners in the place. It would be a shame to lose such a nice local restaurant, but I fear for its future if people don’t start getting out and patronizing them.
The food was delicious and well prepared, and the service was excellent.
Amazing food. We both got the day’s specials and were so pleased. High end dining outside of DC Metro.
The calamari was the best I have ever had! So was the taramisu! I had the tagliatelle. Delicious! My husband Had the lamb ravioli and our friend veal Marsala. Everyone enjoyed their dinners. I highly recommend this restaurant. The pizzas looked delicious!
The Linguini Frutti di Mare was not as good as we had heard. The shrimp were over cooked and old tasting. There were no clams and the spicy sauce was absent. The Veal Marsala was very tender with a flavorful wine sauce. The Grilled Portobello Mushrooms were tasty but over cooked - the char being slightly too dense. The Calamari Fritti was tasty, the fried jalapeño a nice touch, the spicy sauce a not at all spicy tomato paste. The Semifreddo was amazing - this is a must have. The Mixed Gelato was two steps away from dessert heaven. If you like sweet and sour, this is a great go-to. The room was clean and quiet, the service five stars. The Pinot Grigio Quadri was pleasant and crisp and a good choice for the seafood plate.
This is a hidden gem! Food was awesome! Even the Cosmo was awesome!
Manassas doesn’t deserve this culinary establishment! Outstanding Italian restaurant. From the appetizers, pizza to the outstanding Veal Marsala entree, excellent!
Chef has a new restaurant and this one has fallen way off. Servers don’t know the menu, food was borderline terrible. Should have known things were bad when only one other party was dining. What a shame. Used to love this place. Never again.
This place is great! I wish we would have found it sooner.
Our experience was phenomenal. We dined here on a Tuesday evening and had the restaurant to ourselves. We had a lovely table near the window and our server was very prompt and kind. All of the food (beef carpaccio, lamb shank entree, gelato trio) was excellent, and our service was perfect: present and helpful without being overbearing. At the end of our meal, our server even took the time to beautifully decorate a "happy birthday" plate for our dessert. We could not have had a better time. Thank you so much!
The meatball appetizer was very good. The grilled Cesar Salad was also very good. Are entrees were good but not great. Overall a very nice restaurant and experience we would eat there again.
Tortino Mare is a GEM hidden in the neighborhoods of Manassas City. It's the perfect date place - the music, the ambiance, the service, and especially the food are all top-artist-perfection-notch.
The lamb ravioli is not to be missed.
This is a MUST-VISIT for couples, families, or any group wanting to have a memorable dining experience.
The food and the experience were great. The restaurant clearly observed social distancing, but also made us feel comfortable and well taken care of. For a moment, it felt like old times. The portions were generous and the flavor of the pork chops and the lamb were both perfect. We will come back to this restaurant again!
Tortino Mare provides expertly prepared Italian cuisine. The servers are very attentive and the outdoor patio is a wonderful place to dine. Highly recommend!
I wanted to try something new for a birthday, but it was disappointing. We were excited to be outdoors on a night of beautiful weather. As this was our first visit to the restaurant, we were not sure what to expect. The outdoor space was very nice, and we were seated near a fountain. They did a nice job of spacing the tables.
So, the atmosphere was pleasant, but the food was not at all good. The bread was dry, crumbly and had no flavor. The fried calamari did not taste fresh and were very rubbery. The pepperoni pizza had no flavor. The pasta dishes were ok but just ok...nothing at all special!
I'm curious as to how this restaurant has such great reviews. I found the food to be quite the opposite!
Very good food - I had salmon with a sauce I would describe as elegant. The service was excellent.
The food was tasty, but the service was not very professional. Our waitress was friendly and eager to help, but she forgot to bring half of our initial drink order and then brought a glass of one wine when I had ordered a bottle of something else.
We are there at least once per week. The food is great and the wait staff is outstanding.
High quality food in a relaxed atmosphere, staff are well trained and want to ensure a pleasurable experience. Don't let the strip mall location put you off, it's worth the visit.
Thoroughly enjoyed- a genuine taste of Italy - loved the Branzini
One of my favorite local Italian restaurants. Food was excellent as usual but service was really slow that night (Sat). Will be back again.
Appreciate the quiet to visit with friends. We were there starting at 5:00. Staff was great. We were not rushed. Food was delicious.
The staff was totally unorganized in serving and the kitchen unprepared. We received the appetizer and then no entrees were served to us. One server finally asked if we would like to order dessert, and I responded that we would like our meal first! When the food was eventually served, three entrees were lukewarm and veg overcooked. The fourth entree was hot. It appears the 3 were sitting aside waiting for the fourth. Our waitress brought the bill and said she was sorry but the restaurant was short staffed and kitchen had only 2 workers. Plenty of other restaurants to spend our money! We won’t be back.
It is a shame that the restaurant has declined as the first two times we ate at Tortino Mare, our meals were lovely.
Great food. I was thinking the service was a bit lacking. We had 6 people and didn’t have much sense of welcoming. The food was great.
Steak was a little over done, wines were all $40+/bl but didn’t seem like a great value. Almost brought us another tables order and two waiters came by for our drink order.
Food was good overall
Great food and service!
Food and service were amazing!
Very nice dining experience.
No pizza in an Italian restaurant, seriously?
We went for pizza but oven is broken not until we sat down did the server mention the problem. Considering there were only 4 other parties the service was very disconnected.
Exceptional as always!
This family Italian restaurant is tucked away in a small strip mall. They have two dining rooms and a bar area. We sat in the main dining room area. It is a nice place for a special relaxing dinner. We ate on a Friday night and they were comfortably busy, but not so packed that the kitchen was overwhelmed or the service suffered. Each dish was fantastic. Presentation was great. Presentation on the dessert plates was top drawer. You must order a dessert to fully appreciate the effort and care.
This has become one of our local regulars. The food is great, they make a spectacular mojito and dessert is a must! My husband almost always gets the fish special and is never disappointed with his choice. I enjoy the calamari & the fettuccine Alfredo. Something different to try from the menu each visit. Dessert is presented as a art form, with delicious sauces decorating the plate of a tiramisu.
Stumbled on this place. What a hidden gem. Service and food was outstanding. I will be going back.
Absolutely one of my favorite restaurants! Don't miss this hidden gem. The pasta is homemade ! Had the Alfredo this trip and will have it again!
We had heard a lot about this restaurant and finally decided to give it a try.
Overall it was very good - detailed feedback below:
Seating: I made a reservation a week ago and when we got there, the restaurant was pretty much empty.
We were shown a small table in the middle of the restaurant and when I asked for a booth (only one was occupied at the time), I was told no, that they were all reserved.
We were there for ~1.5 hours and one booth remained empty the entire time. Also, another couple came in shortly after us and was also shown a small table and when they asked for a booth instead, they were accommodated (by the same girl that sat us). Very annoying.
Ambiance: The inside is nice but could use some pictures on the wall in the main dining room to make it a bit nicer.
Also, it is rather bright. Dimming the lights and putting some candles on the tables would make a huge difference.
Service: Impeccable! Wait Staff was personable and attentive, best we’ve experienced pretty much anywhere!
Wine List: Would be nice if the by-the-glass list had a few more options for Chardonnay ie: Kendal Jackson or Sonoma Cutrer vs the Butterfield
Food:
Appetizer: We had the calamari and it was wonderful! Very tender with a light, crispy coating that included sliced jalapeños as well. Definitely recommend.
Main course: I had the lamb shank and my husband had the Frutti de Mare. Both were very good and the portions were large (we both took home leftovers). Lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender and very tasty and my husband really liked the seafood pasta (He was born in Italy so this is high praise). The sauce was light but thick and flavorful.
Dessert: We tend to judge any Italian restaurant by its Tiramisu and this exceeded expectations! It is homemade, the presentation was nicely done and it was a very light and flavorful desert. Expresso was strong and good.
Value: We thought the prices were a bit on the high-side so definitely not for everyday dining ($90 + tip)
