Enjoyable, relaxed dining experience! Ambiance plus delicious food and excellent service!
This gem is hidden away in a tiny shopping center, just down from a laundromat. But don't let that dissuade you. It has an attractive and spacious bar, a couple of dining areas, including one with a view of the colorfully tiled wood (I presume) fired oven, and a menu ranging from pizza to fine fresh seafood.
So glad to have finally visited after hearing so many positive reports. Service was excellent, servers obviously well trained.
Food was exceptional, wood grilled sardines with lemon and olive oil over fresh baby Arugula, mushroom Bisque with burrata, flash fried calamari with jalapeño...
Fruit de mare over house pasta was good,
Tiramisu excellent. Only complaint: servers don’t know how to make cappuccino, got a luke warm latte with no foam. If that’s the only problem.....
Ambiance lovely...already made reservations to return with friends!
Best Italian food venue I have experienced in this area.
So good!!! It’s a place not to miss. Chef Franklin did an awesome job
The mark of a good restaurant is how they fix the things that inevitably go bad at every restaurant. We had a salmon that was slightly overcooked. The chef came to talk to us about how we like our salmon. Very nice. He fixed a problem. Also had a Linguini Frutti di Mare. It was delicious. Salad and tiramisu were fine.
All the dishes looked beautiful which helps the dining experience. They use a team service approach which resulted in excellent service.
Three less minutes in the oven for the salmon and it would have been a five-star review.
we love this restaurant
Birthday - great food, service is extremely slow
We are so glad we found this place. The food is excellent. I knew right away it was Northern Italy style because we lived in Italy and its quite different than Southern Italy. Both delicious in their own right but it was obvious the chef was trained. Each dish was so creative and a pleasure to look at and a pleasure to eat. Now at the top of our favorites. We will be back again and again. If we could offer one loving suggestion. The overhead lighting is too harsh and needs to be put on dimmers with a little bit brighter candle on the tables. You know its pretty good if I have to pick that nit. Thanks for a wonderful experience.
Terrific service and excellent food. Would highly recommend
The food was superb and the waiters were very nice. We will definitely come back and also recommend it to our friends!
This is our go to place for any occasion or just to go out, eat great food and enjoy ourselves. I always feel I have been served well when I leave. This is a great place in Manassas.
This has become one of our favorite restaurants. Tortino Mare is a great value for of the delicious entrees they offer. The staff is very responsive and professional. Highly recommended!
The restaurant closed due to a little snow on the ground and never called to inform us. We arrived there only to see a sign on the door.
We had a delicious meal at a reasonable price. Everyone enjoyed their food. The waiter was happy to help suggest a bottle of wine or help you decide what to order. The presentation of the food was great. The food was hot.
Wasn’t as good as our first visit, but still enjoyed our time there.
Great experience overall. Phenomenal cuisine. Great small
restaurant feel. The noise level was a high but ok. Service was really good.
The ambiance of this place was warm and welcoming. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. Definitely coming back for more gatherings. Thank you.
This was our second time there, this time for Valentines and it was amazing!
My wife and I enjoy their food and the wonderful staff. They always make me feel more than welcome. Love the place.
The food was great! Menu had variety of options. Service was very good as well. Great experience! We will be back.
First time there and pleasantly surprised how good the food was. would suggest adding another fresh pasta dish to the menu.
GREAT food. Will certainly return.
Another great experience. Had the Tri-color salad and Burrata salads, followed by Veal Marsala and chicken for main course. All were excellent. Desert: Semifreddo and Chocolate Salami. Both highly recommended!
We hadn’t been here in a few months, and this visit was not up to the standard of our previous meals, which were outstanding.
We were there for an early Sunday dinner, and it seems like many of the regular staff were off (it was Super Bowl Sunday). Last time I was there we were offered a glass of Prosecco while we looked at the menu, that has apparently been discontinued. I had the grilled octopus app, which was very good. My fish special was ok, but was floating in a watery liquid that may have come from the side vegetables. Service was fine, but not as attentive as I remember. We’ll try this place again on a more “normal” day, but I was a little disappointed in the experience this time.
Food and service were both excellent. The only thing lacking was proper lighting. The high overhead lights were glaring. Wall sconces or dropped lights would greatly improve the ambiance. Even so, this is a hidden jewel and we will be back!
New on menu was a duck and roasted pear salad. An unexpected delight. New servers did an outstanding job. Thanks to chef and kitchen staff for another enjoyable meal.
My daughter and I went for a Friday lunch at noon. At first, we were the only ones there and the restaurant was cold; we could hear them crank the heat up and it did get warmer. The service was good, although the waiter had to go back to ask the cooks the answer to a few questions we asked before ordering. Food was good and well presented, however, this place had no ambiance! The waiter said the restaurant was more popular in the evening and I think with more people there and by candlelight it would be much nicer. Pricey for lunch.
Only complaint was no bread given to us before dinner. Otherwise service was great and food even better
Our server Heidi was excellent and his recommendations were spot on. The food, wine and the pace of our meal was outstanding. We will be back soon.
This place has made tremendous strides since it's opening. The food is the draw. Great chef who is very personable. The service has improved but still has a ways to go. They are getting a more mature service staff but service can be a little slow especially trying to get a drink when you first sit down. Hope to try one of their fresh fish dishes next time.
First time visiting this restaurant which was recommend by my eye doctor. Was very impressed and definitely plan on returning. Everything was top notch.
Been back here twice and enjoyed their specials each time. The food here is very good and clearly all made fresh in-house. This place will likely become a regular place for us.
We gave this place a try after reading the rave reviews but won’t be back. Soggy pizza and $28 for a soupy risotto is not my idea of great Italian food. Service was so slow it took 40 minutes to get bread and our appetizer. While waiting for our food another server asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu? In fairness after we sent the pizza back, they took it off the bill, apologized for the wait and quality and gave us a glass of wine on the house. We were not the only people with food issues, 3 tables down sent back 3 plates of food to the kitchen too. It could have been good but unfortunately it was a big disappointment.
My husband's dinner (veal marsala) was great, but mine (seafood linguine in tomato sauce) had two shrimp and 1/2 scallop. When I told our waiter about the problem with the seafood, he did not offer to do anything about it like talk to the chef or manager. Very disappointing.....The mussels were very good but the seafood was quite lacking. The calamari was quite good. The waiters were confused and one didn't know what the other was doing. We were waiting for our dinner, but they were waiting for me to finish my salad (which I wanted to eat with my dinner), and I told them so.
One of the best Italian restaurants in NOVA. At least equal to, and maybe better than, the Trattoria Villagio in Clifton. Very creative and truly amazing dishes, perfectly prepared to your taste with superb service at good prices. This was our 4th visit and the first for our friends who thought it was the best Italian food they have had outside Italy!
Tortino Mare did not disappoint! Nice lunch and very good food. They were short staffed bit the waiter was kind enough to explain the situation and we were not in any hurry so it worked out well. Hope they find new help soon. The waiter they have is very good and they could use one more like him! I will definitely back again and again.
A great restaurant - finally great Italian! I couldn't believe my great fortune to have found a truly super Italian restaurant that is focused on food, not pretending.
Let me be clear, I lived in Italy for years, long before the EU took control in 2000. I loved the old-world Italian food, where the ingredients were the primary item, not garlic overloading poor ingredients and cooking styles. This is the place to go if you want to actually taste your food as it was intended. The wines by the glass were also great selections, don’t be afraid to try them with the meal.
I had Bronzino, freshly deboned before being prepared (not in advance and refrigerated or shudder, frozen). Wonderfully grilled and served with a touch of Olive Oil and salt, period. A nicely cheesecloth wrapped half lemon was provided as well for my use to my taste. The side dishes of grilled veggies (included eggplant, yum) and the 'garlic' mashed potatoes were done to perfection. Barely used garlic in the mashed, I knew I was eating potatoes. So many places cover up the potato with overloaded/American style excess garlic. I like garlic, I just don't want it to be all I taste when I eat. It is to be a lightly used spice unless the dish specifically says "garlic soup", etc.
My wife's Fettucini Bolognese was Al Dente with a very nice mix of meat vs. veggies.
Our desserts, also European style. That means you aren’t eating a sugar bowl, you are actually tasting the the desserts as they aren’t overly sweet, they are ‘just right’. Tiramisu for me, Panna Cotta creatively done for my wife.
We finished the meal and were full without the typical bloat feeling when eating at other places claiming to be Italian. Overall, the food was 5 star food set in a lightly decorated location (no columns, excessive plants, etc. to pretend to be in Italy). A surprise, do not judge it by it’s location or outside as part of a small strip mall, you truly would miss a great book if you judged by the cover.
Great neighborhood gem as a great find ! Great pizzas , pastas and all dishes beyond beautifully presented ! Excellent service that went above normal to accommodate group for birthday . Restaurant even has a room separate from maiming dining room for semi private area
Absolutely delicious. The hostess' professionalism could use some refinement but the food outshone that. The tuna tartare appetizer special was amazing as were the crab ravioli and the the fresh Dover sole!
