Possibly the worst fish tacos I’ve experienced -even when compared to Tijuana push cart tacos. The fish was rubbery and dry, they were lacking flavor, and I could not finish them. And this coming from a guy who will typically eat anything. We will NOT be back.
I asked for shady seating and the staff member who seated us said they would happily accommodate our request. They then seated us in directly in the sun. I asked for shady seating again and was told to wait. I watched two other parties get seated in the last shady seats before they came back and told me there was no more shade. The food was good.
Experience was good but we waited 20 minutes before anyone even came to our table to offer water. By the time the server approached to take our drink order, we were ready to order everything.
The beef in the fajitas was really fatty, but my daughter very much enjoyed her bean burrito from the kids menu.
Ginger Margaritas tasted awful. No salt on the rim and heavy on the syrup no sign of Ginger.
Steak fajitas tasted like it was made with fatty mystery meat.
Would not recommend.
We had a party of 8. I ordered shrimp tacos. There was a problem in the kitchen and my order came so late everyone was almost finished with their dinners.
Two tacos cost $17. For that I got one shrimp in each taco. Would not recommend this restaurant.
The food was excellent. Service was a little slow, but still a great dinner.
Great food, great service!
After an awkward beginning with the hostess, we had a wonderful experience. We have eaten here several times. We had reservations and when we arrived, we asked to sit on the edge of the patio. I could see two empty tables and asked for one of them. The hostess was reluctant to seat us there, said she needed to check. She then seated us, temporarily, in the bar and gave us menus, were then brought waters. My husband went back to ask why we were taking up a table and being served at a table indoors when the tables we wanted were outdoors. We were eventually seated on the patio in a corner next to the table we wanted, which remained unoccupied for an hour and a half after we were seated. It was an annoying distraction from our otherwise lovely evening.
We started with the chips and salsa. The salsa was thicker and not as chunky as I am used to having in a Mexican restaurant but was nevertheless fantastic. We also had the guacamole, ceviche, and my daughter ordered the quesadilla for dinner. I had the Mole de Poblano Enchilada which was fantastic and would order again. My wife had the Pescado Tacos and was really pleased with the dish. Everything was fresh and prepared well. The service was spotty, as our server seemed to periodically forget we existed. After we ordered the guacamole it took quite a while for her to bring it and she forgot to bring chips, which then took another while for her to bring. We also had to ask her several times to get drinks.
Service was good
Chips and salsa are good
No hostess available waited 1/2to be seated !!! had reservation at 5pm
Our meal was very delicious and the service was great
Service was fantastic. Our waitress was training, and she was attentive, accommodating, and personable. Our food was good - the fajitas didn’t come with cheese, but our waitress brought us two kinds of cheese to try. Ambiance was good - we were seated along the patio railing, which was fine until we realized there was a hand sanitizing station right next to us on the outside of the railing.
Great food and love the Margaritas
For a Mexican restaurant, one would think they know how to make a margarita upon specific request. No such luck.
They moved down stairs. Fun but noisy.
Living in Texas, we have some of the best Mexican food. Dinner for my husband and me was the most expensive Mexican meal we have ever had. It was not worth the cost.
Went for Taco Tuesday. Was really good. Fish Taco was the best, Steak was also good. The chicken Taco was lacking flavour however. Would go back for sure tho & try some other menu items. hydration margarita was perfect.
Fun upscale Mexican restaurant in Poipu....fantastic margarita menu! Very pretty with lots of ambiance in a beautiful shopping center...
I was very disappointed with this place visited with a group of five on a Saturday night. I live on Oahu and really wanted some good Mexican food. I am from Southern California and was really excited to try this place seeing that it had roots from southern California. Made reservations via Open Table for 5. Arrived 15 minutes early and was seated right away. We sat for a good 10 to 15 minutes before any one came to the table. The server was very nice nothing to bad to say about her. The place and the atmosphere was very nice. The food was subpar. I got the Shrimp fajitas. The tortillas we crunchy from straying in the warmer too long. The Vegetables were caramelized. The beans were heavily salted. Just very disappointing. The whole tables dinners was subpar. Maybe the chef had a bad night. Not sure................
It was my parents first time at Tortilla Republic, and they loved it! All the food came out in a timely manner, and tasted absolutely delicious. Our server, Taylor, was friendly and very attentive. Oh yes, and the jalapeno margaritas are the bomb! We will be back.
We have walked past Tortilla Republic many times and always said we should try it sometime. We are so glad we went there for our daughter’s birthday. Everyone loved their meal and the churros were wonderful. We will go back there again before we go home.
Excellent food. The salsa was fantastic and service was great.
Food was adequate - not bad, not great, nothing special. Chevy's frajitas are prob better...
Good quality and good food great ambiance
Great food, great vibe, great service.
love the food and love the staff and love the atmosphere. Jack
I think the food quality and menu options have both gone down over the past few years. Our meal was fine, but flavors were not as distinct and interesting as in the past. For instance, the Brussels sprouts were much more oily than in the past and the enchilada was good, but not very good.
We came here because the kids were tired of eating fish and "island-style" cuisine. Big mistake, especially since we live in California. The food was not good. First, the chips were stale and the salsa tasted like ketchup. (My husband actually thinks it WAS ketchup...). I ordered the "Tasty" Salad which was advertised as having mixed greens. It was a boring all romaine (and the pale yellow inside leaves) salad with a smattering of corn (adverstised as roasted corn salsa), some black beans and the most insipid honey-jalapeno salad dressing that I ever tasted. I was surprised to later see two other tables receive the same salad but with actual mixed greens that were a lot more appetizing looking than mine.
My husband ordered the mole enchiladas and he said the mole tasted only like chocolate sauce... none of the deep toasted spices that you'd come to expect.
Service was fine but our table was right by the bar and it kind of had that bar-like smell. Really disappointing as it was our last night of vacation.
TR downstairs just isn’t the same as upstairs. The tables are far more cramped, and you will forever be kicking the overly large pedestals on which they stand. Our last table was horrible, pushed in at an awkward angle next to some windows. The food is fantastic but a bit fast. No real chance to relax along the way. Great margaritas, of course, but it feels like a massive compromise from when they had both upstairs and down. Not sure we will bother going back, which is heartbreaking to admit as we’ve made it a priority for years of Kauai visits. Austin was an incredible server though, so kudos to him!!
The food is good at TR. however, they charge you for a refill of chips. Yep. They brought us, a table if 4, the same size basket of chips the table for 2 received. Then when we asked for a refill, we were told it would be $3.00. Mind you, we ordered 2 rounds of drinks and dinner. Ridiculous.
Just heard from TR. They charge $3.00 to pay for the salsa. We had plenty of salsa, just no chips. They also said tables of 4 were given generous amounts of chips. Yep, the same "generous" size as a table for 2.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Tortilla Republic! We sat at a table by the walkway, and it was a beautiful spot! We enjoyed our main dishes a lot - I got the chicken fajitas (very tasty) and my husband got the chicken verde enchiladas. The only disappointing part was the guacamole - it was only okay, I wouldn't get it next time. The salsa was great though!! Highly recommend!
Great experience and great food. A must try while in Kauai.
The food was alright but the hostess kept telling me to come back every 15 minutes even with a reservation. It would have been better if she said to wait 45 minutes. She was hard to communicate with. Food was alright. Not the best Mexican foos but just alright.
Great food and great margaritas. It took a long time for our food to arrive but otherwise it was great
Quite a fantastic Mexican food experience in Hawaii!! The food was delish, the service was great, and the jalapeño margarita was top notch!!
Food is good. Not fantastic but overall it’s a 3.5 star rating.
Excellent service and very friendly staff. Food was ok. Salsa honestly tastes like it was bought at the grocery store. Great break from Hawaiian food! Great atmosphere!
The hostess was very rude. I hade made reservations 2 weeks prior. She tried to show us to a table in the back dark corner of the restaurant. There were several tables open outside and in the bar and when we asked about it, she stated they are reserved. We said we also made reservations and would like to sit in one of those tables. After going back and forth several times she relented and sat us at a table in the bar. The other tables we had wanted were open during our entire meal.
T our server was friendly and food was good.
