Food was delicious, flavorful and had a unique spin on Mexican. Our server, Katie, was exceptional and the decor was shabby chic. Loved it.
Best restaurant on all of Kauai!
We have been here many times over the years and our last experience really punctuated a slow decline over the last year or so. The waitstaff was not polite at all. Once seated, we ordered guacamole and drinks. The bar was shut down due to a water leak which was excusable. However, the guacamole arrived a few minutes later and was actually inedible. It was some sort of bright green sludge and after a bite or two, we quickly gave up on it. After quite a while, I was able to flag down our waitress and ask for the check. She looked at the full bowl of guacamole and without questioning it, brought us the bill. Not impressed and not willing to waste money to find out if the rest of the food has declined as steeply. Too bad, this used to be a great spot.
Fun restaurant. Good food, not great food. We were seated at a high top table in a corner outside so we didn't get to experience the real ambiance of the restaurant. Overall a nice experience.
Hot day, needs AC, no airflow, overall food was just good, Chicken quesadillas were excellent.
Great location, good food, and terrific service.
We ate here on a very busy Saturday night, which may explain why our experience didn’t measure up. Service was slow, food mediocre, and my margarita tasted like it didn’t have a drop of tequila in it. When I mentioned this to the server, she became visibly annoyed and told me that was impossible. Don’t go when it’s busy and you may have a better experience.
The worst food We had as a family. Salty and did not taste good. Will not recommend or go back. Service was not very good either.
Yummy as a last minute vacation lunch. Great margaritas. Food good but a bit overpriced for what it is. 2 enchiladas 23$ yikes. Tasty but not over the top. We’d try again.
Mediocre Mexican food. It wasn’t bad for the price. The house margaritas were a little too sweet after the first few sips.
Been coming here for years. Always a favorite. Tonight the service Sucked. The waitress dissapeared. Had to hunt her down several times. She was rude and obviously wanted to go home. Had to send back food that was either raw or over cooked. Don't waste your time here. I won't ever be back.
The food was delicious. Katie P was our waitress—she was excellent! Kauai
Love this place
Water glasses face up on tables.
Had to ask twice for water refills.
Slow service. Average food.
The cat on the patio was very friendly. I named him bartholomeow. I shared my carnitas with him. We both thought it was delicious.
If you are on Kauai and want to enjoy some authentic and delicious Mexican food this is the place. Great drinks, awesome food, fun location with shopping!
We had a great meal. We had 16 people and our service was outstanding. They definitely took very good care of us and the food was delicious.
Possibly the worst fish tacos I’ve experienced -even when compared to Tijuana push cart tacos. The fish was rubbery and dry, they were lacking flavor, and I could not finish them. And this coming from a guy who will typically eat anything. We will NOT be back.
I asked for shady seating and the staff member who seated us said they would happily accommodate our request. They then seated us in directly in the sun. I asked for shady seating again and was told to wait. I watched two other parties get seated in the last shady seats before they came back and told me there was no more shade. The food was good.
Experience was good but we waited 20 minutes before anyone even came to our table to offer water. By the time the server approached to take our drink order, we were ready to order everything.
The beef in the fajitas was really fatty, but my daughter very much enjoyed her bean burrito from the kids menu.
Ginger Margaritas tasted awful. No salt on the rim and heavy on the syrup no sign of Ginger.
Steak fajitas tasted like it was made with fatty mystery meat.
Would not recommend.
We had a party of 8. I ordered shrimp tacos. There was a problem in the kitchen and my order came so late everyone was almost finished with their dinners.
Two tacos cost $17. For that I got one shrimp in each taco. Would not recommend this restaurant.
Delicious food but sat right near the hostess stand it was busy foot traffic.
The food was excellent. Service was a little slow, but still a great dinner.
Great food, great service!
After an awkward beginning with the hostess, we had a wonderful experience. We have eaten here several times. We had reservations and when we arrived, we asked to sit on the edge of the patio. I could see two empty tables and asked for one of them. The hostess was reluctant to seat us there, said she needed to check. She then seated us, temporarily, in the bar and gave us menus, were then brought waters. My husband went back to ask why we were taking up a table and being served at a table indoors when the tables we wanted were outdoors. We were eventually seated on the patio in a corner next to the table we wanted, which remained unoccupied for an hour and a half after we were seated. It was an annoying distraction from our otherwise lovely evening.
We started with the chips and salsa. The salsa was thicker and not as chunky as I am used to having in a Mexican restaurant but was nevertheless fantastic. We also had the guacamole, ceviche, and my daughter ordered the quesadilla for dinner. I had the Mole de Poblano Enchilada which was fantastic and would order again. My wife had the Pescado Tacos and was really pleased with the dish. Everything was fresh and prepared well. The service was spotty, as our server seemed to periodically forget we existed. After we ordered the guacamole it took quite a while for her to bring it and she forgot to bring chips, which then took another while for her to bring. We also had to ask her several times to get drinks.
Service was good
Chips and salsa are good
No hostess available waited 1/2to be seated !!! had reservation at 5pm
Our meal was very delicious and the service was great
Service was fantastic. Our waitress was training, and she was attentive, accommodating, and personable. Our food was good - the fajitas didn’t come with cheese, but our waitress brought us two kinds of cheese to try. Ambiance was good - we were seated along the patio railing, which was fine until we realized there was a hand sanitizing station right next to us on the outside of the railing.
Great food and love the Margaritas
For a Mexican restaurant, one would think they know how to make a margarita upon specific request. No such luck.
They moved down stairs. Fun but noisy.
Living in Texas, we have some of the best Mexican food. Dinner for my husband and me was the most expensive Mexican meal we have ever had. It was not worth the cost.
Went for Taco Tuesday. Was really good. Fish Taco was the best, Steak was also good. The chicken Taco was lacking flavour however. Would go back for sure tho & try some other menu items. hydration margarita was perfect.
Fun upscale Mexican restaurant in Poipu....fantastic margarita menu! Very pretty with lots of ambiance in a beautiful shopping center...
I was very disappointed with this place visited with a group of five on a Saturday night. I live on Oahu and really wanted some good Mexican food. I am from Southern California and was really excited to try this place seeing that it had roots from southern California. Made reservations via Open Table for 5. Arrived 15 minutes early and was seated right away. We sat for a good 10 to 15 minutes before any one came to the table. The server was very nice nothing to bad to say about her. The place and the atmosphere was very nice. The food was subpar. I got the Shrimp fajitas. The tortillas we crunchy from straying in the warmer too long. The Vegetables were caramelized. The beans were heavily salted. Just very disappointing. The whole tables dinners was subpar. Maybe the chef had a bad night. Not sure................
It was my parents first time at Tortilla Republic, and they loved it! All the food came out in a timely manner, and tasted absolutely delicious. Our server, Taylor, was friendly and very attentive. Oh yes, and the jalapeno margaritas are the bomb! We will be back.
