The menu offers so many interesting dishes, not just the same things you see at every tapas restaurant. We ordered 6 different dishes to share, and every single one was delicious! The space is big and open but has an intimate feel through decor and lighting, music is the right level to enjoy while being able to easily converse, tables are not crammed together, and our server was wonderful! The only negative was when we had questions about the wine list to help us choose a bottle, and our server said she would have the sommelier come talk to us...the sommelier never came out. Instead, they sent our server back to our table with a suggestion. The place was not packed, so who knows why they could not come out and talk. We were very happy to hear that they had a sommelier because it's always great to hear their enthusiasm about the recommendations based on what you tell them you like, and I always learn something. This one couldn't be bothered. Everything else was stellar! Will definitely go back!
Hi JSwan! We are so thrilled that you had a fantastic time dining with us at Toro! Our apologies that our Sommelier was busy at the time of your request. We are lucky to have a Somm on duty every night of the week and we would love to have you back another time to give you the full Toro NYC experience! We hope the wine you had that night was delicious and we hope to see you again soon :)
Excellent food and ambiance as always! Music was a little loud, but otherwise everything was delicious and a lot of fun. 10/10 recommend!
The food was amazing. Music is a little louder, but fun, just not great if you're looking for a super quiet space to talk. Sangria is delicious. Staff is super attentive and nice.
Great experience overall and will be back. Strange entrance, and you can almost miss the place.
Love this place! Hidden gem on the west side highway. Also, our server Ishelle (sp?) is amazing and treats us very well every time we go and have her.
Our party of 4 was in NYC for a Birthday. We arrived a bit early and had a short wait at the bar so we ordered The Green Dragon and La Vie Boheme which are both excellent however my favorite drink was the Hell's Bell Pepper. Even though it was a busy Saturday night we did get seated right on time. The service (at the bar and our table) was just right. It wasn't overbearing so you feel like you can't relax and enjoy your meal but we never had an empty glass of water or found ourselves looking for someone to help us. By the end of dinner we had ordered about half of the tapas on the menu and loved everything! Datiles con Jamon, Tabla de Quesos, Tabla de Embutitos, Tartar de Atun, Pato, Hamburguesas, Empanada De Cabra y Habanero, Berenjena, Asado de Hueso, Gambas Al Ajillo, Filete, and Higado de Pollo. My favorites had to be the Empanada, Asado, and Higado. Personally I don't love Eggplant and I would definitely order the Berenjena again. We have had terrific dining experiences at both Coppa and Little Donkey and Toro definitely didn't disappoint as our 3rd foray into these Chefs restaurant locations. Thank you and see you again soon!
It was my second visit to Toro, and it was just as terrific on this visit as the previous one! We had a group of 6 this time and were coming after a long day of watching tennis at the US Open. Toro has a great vibe, and the food, cocktails, wine, and service were all fantastic. We ordered a ton of dishes and shared everything. The grilled steak, tomato salad, and ceviche were standouts, but there wasn’t a clunker among the 20 or so dishes we shared.
Food, service, drinks and atmosphere was everything that was expected of a New York restaurant.
Place is beautiful, service was good as well. Food was good but they charge way to much for the amount of food they give you. Bite size amounts. We are not people who eat a lot. We were two people, ordered like 4-5 plates and left hungry and the bill was over 200 dollars. Not worth the money. Maybe a better spot just to have a drink.
Food is mediocre and way overpriced. $45 for three small duck legs in a confusingly sweet and tangy sauce is absurd. Some tapas were promising, but none of them were delicious. The ambiance is nice but the place was empty.
The food and service were great. The ambience was good. However, the music was loud and made it difficult to have a conversation. We were on a first date and it was too noisy to talk. I would not recommend for dates and conversation.
Our go to for years.
Although our server was quite nice and attentive the management seamed to be clueless with the correct table etiquette. We had at least two managers come by to pour our red wine when it was still half full, the other manager came by and poured the wine almost to the top. I asked her to please not pour wine for my husband so I could give him half of my full wine glass. I finally put the bottle on the other side of the table so they could not pour it any longer but one of them reached out to pour it again. I felt that they were trying to rush us out to turn the table.
This place is awesome. Service is top-notch. The sommelier, Sarah, was super helpful and knowledgeable. Recommended a couple great bottles. Great ambiance and incredible food. Get the San Sebastián style mushrooms.
Service was fantastic, and the food was both creative and authentic. Loved the bone marrow and patatas bravas in particular.
Difficult to find the entrance as it is on 11th avenue not tenth. Great food and variety.
Enjoyed the Chef table! They were very busy but got to ask a question or two on technique. I dined solo before the Ballet, so I didn't get to sample as many things as I would have liked. Everything was great, the chicken mousse, the garlic and chili shrimp and the olive oil ice cream. The Wolffer's cider was perfect with the rich chicken mousse. I can't wait to find someone who carries the cider.
Everything we had was exceptional. Wish I could’ve tried the whole menu. The sangrias were also very good. Service was on point, even printed off our show tickets for us so we wouldn’t be late. Highly recommend.
The ambiance was great! There was a somm who specifically came to our table to discuss wines and helped us choose the perfect wine for our meal. However when the cheese plate came out, we had no idea what the cheeses were except for the manchego - no one could tell us what else was in the plate. And the food was extremely salty especially the paella. Churros were also extremely dense. For the price point, not the best.
It was a great and seamless experience! Really fun vibes and good energy. Food and drinks were great too!
Very poor service lack of enthusiasm when asked to recommend dishes.
Extremely dark and difficult to read the menu.
Hard to catch servers attention to get a drink. Wouldn’t rush back.
Wonderful place for groups and couples. The atmosphere was super cool, dark and like a warehouse. There were three REALLY great stand out dishes for us; the crispy egg plant, the octopus polpo and the corn. The prawns were pretty nice too but not on the same level.
Avoid the mushrooms.
Would return in a heartbeat!
Phenomenal. We’ve been here several times. The food is always good. Menus rotate frequently with a lot of greatest hits and new items. Love the charcuterie as well.
Sergio at the bar was wonderful! Very attentive and made great recommendations!
The food is mediocre, the service is on the amateur level. Some tapas are were very greasy. The wines are way overpriced. Not sure what the hype is about, but none of the tapas and pinxos we ordered looked creative. Waste of time and money
I have eaten at Toro before this. The food is very good. My service experience was better the last time. This time the assistant servers kept bumping my chair as they passed. After about 7 times I asked our server to please asked to not bump my chair when passing. She proceeded to walk over to the dining room manager to tell her and they both seemed to think it was very funny. The bumping continued. That’s the difference between professional servers and young punks just trying to make a buck. A lot of restaurants in NYC that you can spend over $300 for 2 people and not get knocked around.
The service at Toro is wonderful, as are the wine recommendations! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is energetic, and decor is interesting. A perfect place for a date, friends meal, or business dinner (for the not so stuffy crowd)! Highly recommended!
Enjoyed a very good meal here; waiter was very helpful with our order- would definitely go back!
Our servers Salvatore and Matthew were unbelievable, particularly the young man (I think Salvatore) who was lead. We had not one but two food allergies and he took more care to ensure we were good than ANY OTHER SERVER WE'VE HAD IN THE 24 YEARS OF MY SONS' LIVES. I was so impressed and so thankful for his diligence because it turned out fish sauce was used in two of the dishes we ordered. He arranged for the sauces to be on the side for us but took the time to understand the ingredients and make appropriate accommodations. I applaud this level of detail. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Excelente service, food and atmosphere!
I went with my fiancé to celebrate his birthday last Friday and it was a blast.
Definitely coming back to try other amazing dishes and drinks.
Beer selection is terrible. Solid spot but just didn’t leave satisfied.
Excellent food. Great cocktails. Wonderful service.
A couple of warnings: 1) although the address is on 10th, the entrance is almost on West on 15th St. 2) the entrance itself is really sketchy-looking; don't let that put you off. That being said, the space itself was nice, even if a little loud for my taste. The service was excellent -- nice people with great recommendations. We had 5 items, chosen from the pinxos and small plates. There was a lot of variety and we enjoyed everything we ate. Of particular note: pimientos del padron, maiz asado, and the cheese plate.
We enjoyed the food, especially the gambas ajillo. The wait staff was attentive and helpful and answered all of our questions. We liked the tapas style of the restaurant and the restaurant space itself is beautiful. The only thing I would change is the entrance. I had been there before and knew where to enter, but my guest wasn't sure where the entrance was because of the address and the winter storm shelter covering it. Other than that, we had a wonderful experience at Toro.
My favorite restaurant in Boston moves to NYC.
Enjoyed sitting at the back bar. Everyone was so nice there. Only complaint was order The paella had one tiny piece of chicken in a dish for two.
Great food! Service and chefs counter was also awesome. Would recommend as a great tapas place.
If you would like to enjoy the cooking action, ask to sit on counter. If you seat at the kitchen counter, you can ask the chef serve you any tapas without looking at the menu. I have been there few times, I have always enjoy the food and great conversation with the staff and chef (can be just sous chef or line cooks, but always fun).
Found hair in my paella. Ruined every else about the experience. I would not go back.
Excellent atmosphere. Food is ambitious but doesn't always deliver which is disappointing given the price point.
