The waitstaff, food and ambience was exceptional! Carmel is very dog friendly so they have a pup menu as well! I highly recommend Toro if you want fresh and innovative sushi along with an amazing Sake list!
Stopped here for lunch it’s a lovely quiet place in the middle of the bustle of Carmel. Friendly service and excellent food. We had several sushi rolls, the seared albacore dish was excellent. Helpful hint: the spicy edamame is super spicy, blistered my lip HA! We will definitely go back every time we visit Carmel!
Very friendly staff and the host remembered from our reservation that we were there for a date. Food was delicious and saki sampler was fun!
Great food & service!
Always excellent food and service!
After having been to another Japanese restaurant in Carmel, I thought to try a different one and thought this place would be a winner too. Major let down. I will say our server Liam, was excellent though. Very attentive and nice, there was one mix-up in our order and he addressed it immediately.
My friend and I started off with a couple Sakes and beers while perusing the menu. We ordered the Hamachi Carpaccio appetizer, Salmon Nigiri, Tuna Nigiri, Eel Nigiri, Uni Nigiri, Flying Fish Roe Nigiri, Spicy Tuna Handroll and a Seared Salmon Roll.
First off, the Yellowtail Carpaccio was tiny portion, fishy tasting and what were those shredded veggies on the side (tasted bad). The Nigiri Pieces we order, the quality of the fish was very mediocre , nothing special, almost like grocery store sushi. The best item from all was the Seared Salmon Roll. But again, our servicer was excellent.
Atmosphere: typical Japanese restaurant decor. Service: excellent. Food: very mediocre
Some of the best sushi I've even had. Highly recommend the Dolores roll. It was an interesting combination of flavors I've never tasted in a sushi roll before. Definitely coming back the next time I'm in the area!
Great service. Loved the sake flight!
Overall good experience….
Nice outdoor setting and great food - sake flight was fun
Great food, as always, but service and kitchen were super slow on their first holiday weekend back at it.
Delicious food. Attentive waiter.
Dined outside. Weather very cool and damp which was unfortunate. Will go back but only if we can dine inside or in courtyard.
Appetizers / rolls tasted great. Quality of fish for the chef's choice nigiri was fine, but felt low for the price (especially the fatty blue fin tuna). Service was perfect, friendly and inviting.
All around perfection!
If we lived in Carmel we’d definitely go back.
The food was ok, but definitely over-priced for the quality. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.
The chefs tasting wasn’t what we expected. We expected higher quality sushi for the price. Service was very slow.
Fabulous sushi experience in Carmel, would definitely go back! Everyone who worked there was incredibly kind and professional. Thank you!
Great sushi in the heart of Carmel--super friendly staff and a convivial atmosphere with a young, sophisticated crowd.
Great sushi and hand rolls along with fantastic service!
Really cute restaurant with good service. We had the seared albacore roll and the seared rainbow roll, both delicious! The tempura was lightly fried and yummy although the sauce was too sweet. The one big disappointment was the uni - it was $26 for the tiniest serving possible. If I had known, I would have skipped it and ordered another roll. The sashimi was good quality but perhaps not amazing. All in all, it was a nice but pricey lunch. I would go back but stick to the rolls.
IT WAS DELICIOUS!
Cozy, quaint, and fabulous!
Our server, Sunsamilia was WONDERFUL!
Nice people…sushi just lacks any authenticity…
Mother’s Day lunch with family. The Baked Salmon Roll is amazing! All of our sushi was fresh and extremely tasty. We enjoyed our lunch at a table in the alleyway. Heat lamps are provided if necessary. We all decided Toro will be a more frequent visit from us all.
Outside and inside dining. We sat inside near the fireplace. Food was fresh and tasty. Saddlefish salad special was excellent Chefs selection of sushi was excellent. Romantic setting would highly recommend.
Toro Sushi is off the charts and a place that is a must dine at!! It has awesome food, wonderful and caring service and an ambience that is just “chill”! We visit their very frequently and it is always a great value and is consistently delicious!! This is a must dine at location!! We love it their!!
I so wanted to love this place. It is really charming and the presentation is beautiful. The waiters are very nice as well but unfortunately I found the food fair to bad. I took bites of several pieces of fish that tasted very fishy to me and made me completely loose my appetite. My cocktail was not very good either. It was full of ice which i never like unless i'm on a beach and it was way too sweet. Sorry Toro : (.
Fantastic meal! This is the best sushi I have had in awhile. Will be back soon!
Lovely outdoor setting, fabulous service.salmon teryaki was good, as was humachi poke bowl. Tempura appetizer was generous, fresh, and light, however heavily salted.
Regretted we hadn't ordered sushi.
Amazing!! I felt so welcomed - I was dining alone (treating myself on a solo trip). The staff was awesome and made great recommendations. I wish I still lived in the area, but I will definitely be back on my next trip!
Again, we visited Toro Sushi and had a magnificent experience. My wife and I made it a date night and as expected they gave us the royal treatment. Food was so flavorful and prepared beautifully, the service was the platinum standard and the entire experience was just AWESOME! This should be a must-visit when in Carmel.
Not authentic sushi place with uncooked rice for god’s sake. Waiter’s nice but lacks clear communication. Sake selection is excellent
Service was great and it felt very COVID-19 safe. Food was high quality.
A great addition to the restaurant scene in Carmel. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. All of the staff engaged with us well from the host all the way through to the guy responsible for changing out the propane tanks. From what they told us, they will keep the outdoor dining post-pandemic in addition to the seating inside. That will be huge during the warmer evenings.
Our server was terrific and went to great lengths to explain the menu. We had edamame to start and you had better have a great appetite as they didn't skimp on the amount of them. We ordered Nigiri al la carte and had one of their seared rolls. It was all top-quality. Oh, and the sake cocktails - amazing! Will be going back soon,
Toro Sushi is an exceptional dining experience where the customer's desires come first. We have now been there on several occasions and the food, service, and energy is so consistent. From the greeting when you arrive to the goodbye and thank you's when you leave and everything in between is genuine, warm, and caring. One of the things that I appreciate is that when they get busy, they cut off their takeout so that they can concentrate on the sitting customer and providing the best dining experience. In other words, they place quality over quantity. Their food is so fresh and cooked perfectly. While we enjoy the sushi experience of the fresh fish and other fine sushi, the kids love their chick and salmon bowls, and neither of them is dry like so many other sushi places. I hate to say ALL this good stuff because now it will be harder to find a spot, but honestly, I do not believe that there is another place on the Monterey Peninsula and especially Carmel that just nails it like Toro Sushi!
Absolutely love this sushi restaurant. The sushi is excellent and extremely fresh. The owners are almost always there and very friendly and helpful as well. This is now our go to sushi restaurant/
This was mine and my husband's first time dining at Toro. We LOVED it! The food, service, and atmosphere was all excellent! If you're in the Carmel area and are in the mood for some sushi, I completely recommend this place!
Our favorite was the Toro Sashimi but everything else was great!
Toro has a fabulous menu and can change so many dishes/rolls , if you or friends are vegan or vegetarian, to accomodate everyone. I highly recommend the seared Rainbow roll, agesdashi tofu, hamachi carpaccio, dolores roll, Jalapeno Popper roll and.......................
The smoking sake cocktail is stunning as are all their drinks.
Service was extremely slow. Tempura was tasteless, mostly carrots and mushy shrimp. We opted to takeout the sushi that we had ordered since we were waiting for so long and they packed it without any utensils, napkins or soy sauce. Overly complicated rolls were mushy, unexceptional and nigiri made without any wasabi were hard to enjoy without any soy sauce. I had to add wasabi with my finger. All in all a very disappointing meal.
This meal was in sharp contrast to the two other fabulous meals we had while visiting Carmel. The other restaurants were so much more professional also.
The chef is excellent and the ingredients are fresh and high quality. Consider requesting an omakase.
First time visit - loved it. Staff were friendly, attentive, knowledgable. We had a couple of great rolls, chef-choice platter, spicy edamame, prosecco cocktails - all excellent. Sat inside, everything spaced out nicely. 5pm Friday reservation so it was quiet to begin with but quickly got much busier outside and in. Definitely returning!
