Our party of 3 included one vegan and none of us were disappointed! All of the staff were very accommodating, especially the waiter and the chefs. Our vegan son was able to fully enjoy the amuse bouches and with the help of the waiter was able easily to make 5 selections that met his needs (including the mole). Most importantly, all the dishes were fantastic -- all fresh tasting with exciting flavors and different textures that complemented each other.

I'm a longtime fan of Chef Rick and his adventures ... but, only by observation. Haven't been to Chicago is awhile. Topolobampo was one of my reasons for going. Destination dining because of my involvement in cooking and food. My expectations were high. So, I chose the full treatment ... tasting menu and wine pairings for 2.5 hours of pure indulgence. Dish after dish of both subtle and bold flavors, with nuanced spices and plating that elevated my experience to a new category. The very attentive staff was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and refined. I felt very welcome. Bravo!!

We did the 5-course tasting, and while the food was good, there were painfully long pauses in between some of the dishes, sometimes as long as 20 minutes. Our server was very friendly, but there was no apology or explanation for the extremely long waits between courses. The 5-course meal took a full 2.5 hours.

Very disappointing... ambience is that of a Chi-Chi's in a suburban mall. Bad check-in process leaves you waiting over Frontera's tables for several minutes, no coat check, tacky music and decor, children coloring at tables at 9pm, large loud groups of people in sweatpants. Not romantic or stylish at all. The bathrooms require you to go through the tiny kitchen and down a flight of stairs, inconveniencing staff. Food is just good, not mind-blowing, and a couple of courses (like the sopa azteca) were average at best. Service is well-intentioned but uneven, with the servers spending an uncomfortably long time asking about your life in general when you first sit down, and then disappearing for long lengths between courses when you actually need them. We found ourselves just wanting to hurry through the meal and leave, which is not ideal with a $400+, 5-course meal with wine pairings. The prices are shocking given the overall experience. There are many, many better tasting menus in the world, and far better restaurants in Chicago.

We have eaten all over the world at amazing places and this was the best meal of our lives. The attention to every detail, the excellent service and recommendations from our waitress, the delightful wine pairings after delicious cocktails...it was so, so good. I had wanted to come here since 2009, and somehow my expectations were still not too high for our night. Grateful for our time here.

As lovers of Mexican food we were disappointed by the lack of intensity of flavor. The food was nicely presented and we liked the several courses with small plates -- and it all sounded so good.

I have wanted to eat at a Rick Bayliss restaurant forever, we were able to get an 8:45 reservation at Topolobampo. When we got there, we were actually in Frontera Grill and nobody at the host stand made it clear that we would be eating in a different restaurant, so when we were called from the bar and our table was ready and a door slid open to a quieter less chips and salsa kind of place, we were excited. The service right off the bat was impeccable, friendly and not too formal, but just spot on. We each did a different 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing, Tim did the 5 savory courses on their current timeline menu...all fantastic, I let our server (whose name I can't remember but he was awesome) order 5 courses for me. The aguachile was one of the top dishes on whole menu, but we both agreed that the tomato dish (which I would not have ordered) was hands down our favorite item of the night...the beef with mole (add foie gras) was amazing...just hands down top three meals of life!!! Super expensive but worth it!!
