I think every medium sized city in the US has a restaurant like Tony's. One that's been around for years, elegant service, great ambience, and legendary food. In St. Louis, it's Tony's. It's the sort of high end restaurant my parents...timeless, not trendy...and a reminder of a time when going out to dinner wa a special occasion, when people dressed for dinner. The food was spectacular, the service impeccable, and the drinks were generous.
This is a great place to dress up for a change and dine like an adult. We particularly liked the asparagus salad, the penne with lobster and shrimp, but everything was delicious. The foise gras topped steak was a treat, and the almond tart for dessert too good to pass up. Service was a little stuffy at first (we are not regulars, who are obvious if you go there), but warmed up as the dinner went on.
Tony"s is the best! The son of the owner, James greeted us at the front door and helped serve our dinner and his father, Vince came by our table to welcome us. We love this place! The dinner was fabulous. Three of us had the trio of veals, one had scallops and one had the halibut special everything was 5*. We started with salad and 1 had the pumpkin soup which were also 5*. WSe had a irthday at our table and were given a comp desert and one other ordered the chocolat chivcolate desert and everyone had a after dinner drink. IT WAS A TOTALLY FAB EVENING! Thank you Tony's for always making our dinners 5*.
The service and food was outstanding! The waiters played our food right next to our table and every dish was perfectly prepared.
There were plenty of choices for food and our glasses were never empty.
This would be a great place to celebrate a special occasion as it is an experience, not just a meal.
An unbelievable experience with top notch service. The staff felt like close friends by the end of the night and everything tasted perfect. It's nice to have some old world class now a days. We will return and recommend to everyone. Extra thanks to our main waiter, he's worked there 16 years and I just can't remember his name. Good job my friend
I always viewed Tony's as "out of my league". While on the expensive side-everything-from experience to the food was worth it. Server was excellent and not over-bearing. I applaud Tony's. There were "regulars" no doubt, but as a first timer felt welcomed and not out of place. Superb!!!!
Who says this is a good restaurant he has never been to a good restaurant. The food is mediocre. My salmón was definitely overcooked, the Dover sole ($50)
with no taste at all, the risotto was almost a cream (not "al dente"), the sword fish was a shoe sole... I picked a wine and asked the waiter to make sure they have more bottles, he said yes but when the second bottle was bad that was it, I had to switch to another wine... Forse a price of $100 each I would expect something completely different....
My husband and I went to Tony's for our wedding anniversary last week and boy, it did NOT disappoint! The service, food, and atmosphere were unbeatable and it was perfect for a romantic night out. We truly felt spoiled eating there. It was the best steak I have ever had! It is definitely on the pricey side, so we will only be able to visit for special occasions, but if you get the chance to go, don't hesitate! You won't be disappointed.
It's hard to live up to all the hype when you're considered one of the finest restaurants in St. Louis, but Tony's does! A team of waiters anticipated all of our needs. Our unbelievable meal was cooked in front of us. Not only was it hot and perfectly cooked, every dish was memorable. The patriarch of the restaurants, charming Mr. Vince Bommarito, visited each table and made sure everything is prefect. I just wish I could afford to eat here more often!
Tony's after all the years still is as good as it gets. There are few restaurants in USA that are as fine as Tony's. We have been going since 1963. The Baumaritto family is always in house to make sure everything is perfect, including Vince who has been there from the beginning. Every night they have a special risotto that is as good as any Italian restaurant in New York. Lobster Abanallo has been on the menu over 50 years with good reason. Dover sole is finished perfectly at the table. The filet of been with red wine sauce is my favorite. Cannot go wrong with the bone in veal chop. All the seafood starters are excellent. If have room for dessert too are outstanding.
They also do a tasting menu with or without wine pairing.
My first trip to St. Louis and a friend recommended that we eat at Tony's. I am glad that I took his advice. Excellent food and excellent service. So many items to choose from on the menu. Owner stopped by our table and talked to us twice. Our food was prepared in kitchen but then re-heated in front of us at our table. Portion were just the right amount so that we were not "stuffed" and had room for dessert, which was also excellent. Would very highly recommend Tony's.
I had the veal loin chop with truffle sauce and actually took a photo it looked so good. It tasted just as good as it looks. Photo attached.
