The oysters, snapper and catfish were excellent. The red beans and rice not so. There were only two pieces of sausage and the beans had no flavor.
The food was terrific. I had the red fish pontchartrain and my wife had a snapper that was the special of the day. I added french fries to my dinner and they were crisp and delicious. The dinner salad is so large that we split one between us. Even without an appetizer, we were too full to have dessert. That was a shame since they offered one complimentary dessert because we hadn't been there in awhile. Great food and great place. Waiter Jared was pleasant and prompt but not intrusive.
If I had any complaint, it was that the pleasant music could only be heard in the restroom not in the dining room.
I ordered the crawfish ravioli and I was very disappointed. The crawfish were in the dish but not in the ravioli. The ravioli pasta dough didn’t taste that good. I would not order again.
We went to celebrate a birthday, and everything about this restaurant was top notch-food, service, and the ambiance. The manager came over to make sure all was well; this was like going to a top restaurant in "the good old days"!
Tony Mandola's had the BEST gumbo in all of Houston
I went to Tony’s for brunch on Sunday. I decided on the crab cake eggs Benedict which was fantastic. The portion size was over the top and I could have easily split it with someone else. I plan on visiting again and recommend it to anyone who appreciates good quality food.
Oysters on half shell were marvelous, as was Sopa Tomas. Snapper Phyllis fish was great but seafood add-ons, shrimp, scallops, crabmeat, were over cooked and there was not enough sauce. Entree shrimp salad greens were wilted, shrimp overly salty and overcooked and too much salad dressing. Key Lime Pie was fabulous, as usual. Server Fallon was wonderful, as usual.
Great food, service and ambiance!!
The service was amazing & the food impeccable....My friend was in town visiting & was staying downtown & we passed all those restaurants for the great food at Tony’s!
A great Option to lunch in a quiet place, Business casual
It was my moms birthday. Everything from being greeted by Mr. Mandola himself to the service, the amazing flavorable food and overall all experience was top notch!
I took my parents out for Day After Valentine’s Dinner... best time ever... I love this place... the food , the staff and the owners are so Beautiful ....what I really love is the different ethnicities that dine here and everyone is enjoying themselves and the ambience.... love this place!!! Keep up the Fantastic Service, Amazing Food, Wonderful Staff and Lovely Atmosphere!!!!! Did I say the owners (Husband and Wife) are AMAZING!!!!
Service was good. The food was just ok . I ordered a combo seafood platter. All my food items were very small just tasted plain no seasoning.
Went on Valentine's night, so there were a lot of people even with reservations. It was a cold night, however, the restaurant was running the A/C at full blast causing many to complain that it was cold and uncomfortable in the restaurant. The bar was overwhelmed and could not service the guest waiting. All of that is abnormal for this restaurant. On the plus side, they do have both a Valentine's Menu and their regular menu to choose from. Happy eating.
Great food great service - overcrowded overbooked and several “special” people seated before us despite reservations after us
Great experience overall thank you !
Good atmosphere and good service....great food and band
Food was very good and had good live music too
I have visited Tony Mandola's more times than I can remember at the old location and it was always a great experience. I have been to the new one only five or six times but have taken large parties of up to eight and had great food. Here it comes - Valentines Day dinner - we arrived at 6pm and the place was not very busy yet. Party of three. Ordered two Cosmos and a Moscow Mule. The Cosmos were filled with simple syrup and just not good. Waiter took them back. We asked for their wonderful oysters Rockefeller to start - got some other kind of tiny grilled oysters that were covered in salt. Waiter left them and brought TINY oysters with stringy spinach topping - just ridiculously poor imitations of the dish. I ordered the $50 Valentines Day special - ought to be good right? Avocado balls hard and tasteless like hush puppies. Lobster bisque was okay. NY strip steak was large but well done - I ordered medium rare. Sent it back got a very tough medium rare steak - probably choice or less grade meat. Ate about a third. Bread pudding was good. Mother-in-law ordered a filet Mignon medium - got rare. Sent it back Got an really ill-shaped piece of blackened meat that was maybe three inches round at best and an inch and a half thick that was red in the middle for $47. The fries with it were very good - they had someone in the kitchen that could do that right - Burger King training? My wife ordered tuna tartar - pretty simple right? Not so. It was dosed with jalapeno and a lot of citrus and a bit slimy.
I asked the waiter if the Mandola's had sold the place to new owners because it was just terrible. He said a cousin had taken it over. I might forgive a place for being understaffed on a busy night but we ate at 6pm and there was not a crowd yet. The chef should quit as should the new cousin ruining this fine old place. I will never return.
My wife and my friend went to Tony Mandola's for a combination birthday/late Christmas celebrations. They had a wonderful time. They both had Snapper Martha and thoroughly enjoyed the fresh fish and the delicious sauce that included jumbo shrimp and crawfish tails.
Upon seeing my wife enter with a couple of gift bags, he asked her if her party was celebrating a birthday. She told him that they were celebrating two birthdays. The waiter, upon clearing it with his manager I am sure, later offered them each a complimentary desert. He brought them both to the table and lit a candle on each one. My wife's friend and she herself found the deserts delicious: a banana key lime pie and a flourless chocolate torte.
Unfortunately, she cannot remember the server's name, but if you can determine who served the Buhler party at lunch on February 13, 2020, please convey our thanks and appreciation to him.
We are from New Orleans, so my wife enjoyed seeing the restaurant decorated in Mardi Gras colors of purple, green, and gold.
Always a great experience, for your palate and your billfold.
Tony’s great cuisine is reasonably priced for the quality and portion size.
We always leave happy and satisfied.
This was my second time and the experience was even better than the first. Food was excellent along with the service. The atmosphere was perfect. Everyone was so attentive and wanted to make sure we were ok our entire visit. This is my new favorite spot !! Oh and the Mimosas 👍🏾👍🏾
We celebrated my wife's birthday on Sunday. The food was outstanding as always; and, our Server, Walter, is the best. He always goes out of his way to ensure we are enjoying our time/meal at Tony's. Since we both have birthdays in February, we will be going back in a few weeks! The only issue we have is it is always difficult to choose what to have as everything is delicious! The Stuffed Jalapenos are the best we have ever had.
Super fantastic fried shrimp.
I have eaten at Tony Mandola’s many many time. The food was great but the service was not good.
This was my first trip our food was cold waited at least 20 minutes to get waited on the whole experience took us 3 hours we had to get the hostess to get our bill and then had to hunt her down to take our payment. We saw 2 couples leave because they weren’t even brought water upon being seated they waited 15 minutes. It was really an unfortunate experience. I t was my daughter’s birthday and what a mess.
Food and service were great at Tony’s, as always. However, we had to take one star off for food as one dish had a small piece of metal in it. Tony himself and manager both apologized profusely and comp’d both the dish containing the metal and dessert to make up for it but you should never find foreign objects in your food. Having said that, we have always loved their food and this is the first time this has ever happened. We will give them another try as we believe this was a very unusual circumstance.
Excellent food and excellent service! Loved the calamari!
Birthday dinner!! EXCELLENT FOOD AND SERVICE! Oysters Damien are THE BEST!! Spencer was attentive to every detail!!! The entire meal was perfection!!!
Exceptional as always!
This is a good news, bad news review. Good news is the food itself was just incredible. Very delicious. Bad news is some of the prices border on insane. Got to be some of the highest prices for seafood in Houston. $48. 00 for snapper! Yikes! ( no, I didn't order that). We dined early, so the service was outstanding. Just whatch what you order because it can be very pricey. Otherwise, we enjoyed our meal very much
Yesterday was my birthday and Walter took very good care of us. The oysters are probably my favorite thing during brunch! I can’t wait to go back!!
